Organ-off 2023! Galileo II, VB3m, Blue3, B3X - Daveypoo, The Mobile Music Minstrel
It's round 3 and who will come out on top - Yonac's Galileo II, GSI's VBM3, IGG Audio's Blue3, or IK Multimedia's Hammond B-3X?

Good note on the specific midi mapping per controller. Is this already worked out into the app?
The dev added a way to see what controllers are sending MIDI to apeMatrix but I believe that you still have to filter by MIDI channel. It's been a while since I've run multiple controllers into apeMatrix simultaneously so I'm not entirely sure on the most current best way.
very helpful
Yo
Excellent round-up. I fully agree with you: nothing beats B-3X. Thank you for sharing your comparison!
@@MrRbarbieri So glad you liked it - thanks for watching!
I'm going by experience for a live performance for a 4th July open air performance in a park... ANY one of these is good if you play some Booker T and the MGs green onion. We can argue all day which sounds best, but with proper EQ settings, speakers the audience will only notice if you play in the wrong key or wrong notes . If you're good and paying $130 for an app to you is 15 mins of a paid gig spend that money, if you're interested in just decent organ sounds get what your budget will allow and what can be improved with some EQ tweaking.
Your right about the ADA sound sir. Now bc of you i now am using my organs VST way better. I deleted the previous comment bc i was wrong and out of line. Im sorry sir. And thank you for opening my eyes and drilling this wonderful knowledge in my stubborn head. Bless you sir.
I love u sir🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
My free version just shows up as a plain black box with no effects in it. It used to work great! This happen to anyone else?
Its very nice visually!
I agree - it's very pretty!
please do a video on apematrix and xequece 2❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

please please please do a video on apematrix and Xequence 2 , as long as you feel like ❤❤❤❤❤❤please please
Unfortunately I don't have Xequence 2. Sorry!
Great demo. I still struggle with ApeMatrix, but this helps a lot and MultiTrack recorder is great. Excellent example. Thanks!
I have several questions, what would be the correct use of this plugin in the mix? Should I add it to the beginning of my mixing and mastering chain and then with another EQ start to balance the mix and render the final track with the plugin activated or deactivated?
I have not used this app enough to know whether I trust it fully for mixing and mastering. That being said, I would think that it would do only be effective used on the master channel, so that you can hear everything filtered through it. Otherwise it would just become another effect in your chain.
Not sure if u still use this but I couldn’t get my incoming signal to play in stereo within the app. Dry signal was only in right ear.
I've not used Roxsyn in a long time - probably since about the time this video was made. I would think that this has more to do with your input configuration than Roxsyn, but I don't even remember if Roxsyn outputs in Stereo or Mono-only. Sorry I'm not more help here....
@@DaveypooMMM yeah I had mono button on on interface
@@TwinCitiesOxygen That'll do it!
Yeah, just watched all your excellent vids back to back. Despite using a more up to date Drambo your tips were highly useful.. Thank you
I should probably update these, but I'm glad that they worked for you!
Thank you. Yes, there's still some useful tips..
Thank you for this video. I am an experienced synth user but have had a hard time getting started with Drambo. Feeling better already 👍
You're welcome!
3 years later this was I needed to know, thanks!
You're welcome!
This series is criminally under watched! I just got Drambo on sale and only discovered this series through a forum post after a google search, I assume because of the short format it’s not getting recommended. You’ve earned a sub, and I will have to watch this series on .5 speed many times over! Good job
I'm glad you enjoyed it - I hope the info still holds up despite the production value lacking. I appreciate the feedback and thanks for watching!
Great vid. How do you access both mauals in the the vb3. I can only get top one?
I don't believe that there is a second manual in VB3m, however if someone does know please correct me. I've only ever used a single manual there, but I've removed the app so I am unable to check.
Excellent
Too bad Playworld Systems discontinued the Ring.
Yeah, what a bummer.
Once again thank you Davey. I too found the info lacking but the ability of LK great. I mainly wanted to control Gestrument and once I worked it out the Matrix in LK and the ability to send out CC lanes extremely good. Now for the next level but I find very few instructional videos such as yours. Thanks again.
Glad it helped - thanks for watching!
I wish I watched this video before purchasing the VB3m... This 10:12, 11:38 and 13:02 are good points to compare them
This is the great demo of every single thing inside MixBox
Thanks!
Oh man. Did you make this just before VB3-II came out for iPad? This is exactly the video I've been looking for, except with that one involved. 😅 Great work. I also wondered if you could comment on the CPU usage? I've read in a few places that IK Multimedia's app is a resource hog, and there hasn't been an update for 2 years (abandonware?); as much as I'd like to go that way, I can't drop $130 and find that it overloads AUM when I'm using a few more instruments at the same time. I *think* the new VB3-II wins there, but I'm waiting for some UA-camr to spend the money and try it out for me. 😆
Yes - VB3-II just came out and I've not had a chance to try it out or update the video. Yes, B3X is resource heavy, but in my opinion if you want the best possible Hammond tone then it's the way to go. If that's not the most important factor, then Blue-3 is a good alternative. I can't speak to VB3-II compared to Vb3m, unfortunately.
Nice test. I am using B3X on a Mac (not on iPad) and was wondering how is pricing method by those companies. Maybe someone allows you to have both versions (computer and tablet) with a single payment. Do you know something about that? Evaluating getting an iPad but currently a MacBookPro and GigPerformer make my gigs quite comfortable. It's challenging as a not native English guy detecting your words when you start speaking so fast...
I have only used these apps on iPad, so I'm unsure about whether there is an option to purchase a single license to use on both a Mac and iPad. You would have to look into each app individually to find out - I'm sorry that I don't have more information on this for you.
@@DaveypooMMM No problem. Thanks anyway
I think this is a factor worth talking about. IK Multimedia doesn't have a cross-platform licensing option, so if you want B3X on the tablet and on the computer, it'll cost $260. VB3-II (not out in time for this video it seems) is $100 and the license covers both.
Hoping someone can recommend a good quality 61-key controller (preferably with sliders) to pair with the B3-x app for IPad. Want a sturdy but light action. A little on the expensive side would be okay. Thanks.
Hey! I've been having a lot of fun using an M-Audio Oxygen Pro 61 for awhile. IMO it's the best for the buck by far and is very versatile.
@@st.g Thanks.
@@stanley5394I’ve been using m-audio Oxygen pro 61 too - it has 9 sliders/faders (whatever you want to call them 🤣) that assign perfectly with the drawbars (I’m using the Blue 3 on iPad) the functionality is brilliant but takes a bit of getting used to. The keyboard action is semi weighted and has an excellent feel (only slightly noisy/ clunky- but no more than others I’ve tried). I would highly recommend this keyboard, at £198-00 you can’t go wrong. Hope that helps you a little 👍
I use an Arturia Keylab 61 Mark II -- a bit pricey but great quality and features.
Also consider the Alesis QX61 in lightest/portable, has 9 db sliders + more, usb and din, and likely found for peanut$. Keyboard keys, not waterfall key bed Better/Best controller: find an older XK2 or XK3 (has H/S designed waterfall key bed) and control Acoustic Samples B5 (imo the one that fools the most and is still currently the best Hamm VST available) or B3-X (also very good). The rest are ok but essentially skippable given the above already at affordable prices. I'm sorry but the presenter here should have hired a working Hammond organist to do the playing.
Dig it. I'm an obsessive walker, so that should be borne in mind
Good to be able to come back to this. Great app, terrific video. Still essential.
thank you so much! i've been trying to figure out how to connect ipad-aum to nanokontrol2. you are a blessing!!
Bought it recently for £29 - a steal if ever I saw one. Is great on all sorts of instruments, drums and vocals.
It is an amazing value - I use this on literally every track I make nowadays.
@@DaveypooMMM A bit more efficient than the Waves Studio Rack - which uses a ton of CPU processing power. But putting this on EVERY track still gives me grief (maybe I should use so many!)
I did an organ shoot-out myself a few months back and got the same results as you. Although, I tend to use Blue3 the most for the amount of options, presets and ease of use. Plus it's $100 cheaper. But B3X sounds the best overall. Mixed into a track, I don't think anyone will notice between the 2 though.
They are definitely very close to one another, and in a track anyone would be hard-pressed to tell the difference.
50% is parallel
👍
Thanks, drambo is a beast now
Could you do a longer video on creating an fx rack in drambo and how to save it to use in other drambo projects and go slower in explaining how to do it? Thanks.
I have to be honest - I've not touched Drambo in a very long time, so it's unlikely that I'll do more videos about it, however I do have a video about how to save things in Drambo which you can check out here: ua-cam.com/video/LLfYggRDBuM/v-deo.html
I’ve looked at a few of your videos and found them truly excellent. Thank you so much.
You're very welcome!
Yonak killed Galilleo on this second version, the first one was way better. The Blue3 kind of copied everything from Vb3m interface, it seems the same app with just a new look, including an specific app for leslie. I have the VB3m and its sound nice, but the UI and midi learn sucks, maybe Blue3 have fixed this. About the B3X this video was a bit unfair, because I can clearly hear a high amount of drive in this test. Anyway, IK Multimedia built B3x and have the original hammond b3 approval to publish this app, so it must be solid, But Im afraid to pay this much in a app which could be abandoned anytime by IK, which they already did it with many apps before. So I would go with VB3M or Blue3, and maybe try B3X when its on sale in a black friday or something.
There are multiple ways to adjust the loudness within B3X, and I had the expression pedal on full which would account for the additional drive. Thanks for watching!
@@DaveypooMMM I think VB3m would almost be the sweet spot except even in full volume it doesn't seem to push the sound through as onboard sounds. I thought this might have just been a quirk with the yamaha modx but someone has a complete review on youtube of just that and mentioned he had to have his volume set higher on the master keyboard for the organ than any other sounds as well.. if VB3m could have boosted the sound it would have been there.. Ive also heard more than once that the Hammond app, which I have used some but dont own, no doubt has the best overall features but it was not easy to find that powerful growl/balls sound like a real hammond.. maybe its in there but in just messing with EQ or overdrive, I could never get the sound consistent over the keyboard. Also someone did mentoned the the VB3m sometimes had popping sounds if you played several notes but my keyboard did not have that issue with it.
I think of these I most like the Blue3 actually. The B-3X is too distorted sounding for me. Galileo 2 and VB3m both sound pretty sucky in comparison to the others, it must be said. Blue3 also really has the nicest interface of all of these, for me, by far.
I realized during the editing that I had the expression pedal on B-3X all the way up, which increases the drive. It is definitely possible to get a more clean, truer tone out of B-3X, but Blue3 is also amazing at a far lower price point.
OK! I thought it must be impossible that that would be the default haha!
Great news 😊
Nice summary, glad to see the straight-talking ranking, all iOS UA-camrs need to be unafraid to give critical opinions, nice one Dave!
Yeah - I struggle with my own opinions because they are just that. If I don't like something it doesn't mean that it has no value or that someone else may not find it useful. The landscape of reviews is so polluted with opinions that I wanted to try to be honest about it.
For sure - I definitely agree though with your comments that VB3M sounds muffled and Galileo sounds too thin. Overall I’m a bit disappointed with Genuine Sounds emulations, what about you?
@@GavinskisTutorials It's not my favorite, but I prefer it over Galileo II for the lowest cost option. I think it is really use-case dependent - I make a lot of music where the organ is a focus of the tune, but for something where the organ is supporting the arrangement, I think that VB3m would work just fine.
Welcome back!
Thanks!
Good to see you again! I’m watching this video now. Take care! Flo
Tremendous..simple and effective learning
You're welcome!
My head is spinning.... totally confused. I for one, could do with a step by step video on this app. It looks interesting but I can't decide if I should get this or not?
Photon is a very complex app.. What are you looking to achieve with a MIDI recorder app? I believe that there are newer apps that are more straightforward and might serve you better (Atom Piano Roll is the first that comes to mind).
Great overview of this! I’m wondering if it has some sort of bellows emulation that can be modulated with an expression pedal.
Not that I'm aware of - I believe that the instrument is a sampler, not an emulator (it's been a while since I've opened this one up). I don't think that this is a feature.
This video is specifically what I was looking for. Was looking into this plugin as some sort of cheap alternative to the ehx micro synth bass. Watched some Jack Lawrence rig videos where he utilizes the EHX to make a completely filthy and unnatural bass tone and I can't find it within myself to spend $350+tax+shipping on a pedal right now lol. Thanks for this tutorial man
You're welcome!
Thank you, that was very helpful on “ how to” ?
You're welcome!
Thankyou for the video. I use the DC app on iPad and 'Make Kit' doesnt show the cc pop up when I press it.
I haven't used the app in a while but I believe there's a setting to turn that off.
The IK Multimedia Product Manager is an absolute nightmare when it comes to a download and instillation program. It's the pitts and their customer support is terrible! You wait days for a response which is usually a system generated response and they couldn't organise flies around crap when sorting out my many issues when I upgraded to Total Studio Max 4. The program settings is supposed to allow you to set a file download path to an external library but it still downloaded those huge files onto my system drive, causing it to quickly fill up! The sounds might be good but everything else about IK Multimedia gives me a very severe case of anxiety and anger! The 180 day download period after which you have to pay to download files of products that YOU'VE ALREADY PAID FOR is truly despicable and I'll never purchase anything from IK again despite having been a loyal user of their products since 2004! Even a rep from IK Multimedias Australian distributor who was absolutely fantastic with his assistance mentioned that dealing with the company is less than pleasant and that they have a very sanctimonious approach to communication and customer service. The arrogance of IK Multimedia when I've dealt with them has been truly breath taking and I don't remember them behaving this way when I dealt with them back in the early 2000s. I managed to get the many sound library files and file paths downloaded and working but it took me many days with a lot of trial and error, gnashing of teeth and much swearing! I decided to reinstall the IK Product Manager because I was having so many issues with JavaScript errors and the like and then the sounds page said that none of my files were downloaded and installed! As a matter of fact, their reprehensible 'customer service' gave me no correct answers and suitable solutions and their IK Multimedia Product Manager makes it feel like that we're back in 2003! They've certainly lost me. It's such a great shame really as their products are actually fabulous once their set up correctly. I'll stick with Native Instruments, Arturia, Fxpansion and Izotope, all of whom have product installers that do all the hard work of downloading, installing and authorising their products for you with the minimum of fuss! BYE BYE IK MULTIMEDIA!!!! 🤬🤬
I'm glad I read this. I came to the same conclusion. They do irresponsible things to your system when you download things from them. They fill up your drive with many GBs when you only download one thing for free. They have a wrong 'clever' philosophy, forcing their ecosystem into your computer without you knowing so.
Daveypoo, thanks for this comparison / update. Based on your earlier comparison of B-3X vs Galileo, I said "What the Hell" and downloaded Galileo 2 to see if it was good enough to get me by for my "extreme lightweight" iPad-based setup (I also own, and love, a Hammond XK-1.) BUT I NEED YOUR HELP! PLEASE! HOW can I turn off my keyboard's bottom octave from triggering presets!!?? The owner's manual states (on page 16, under "MIDI note to Drawbar layout") "You can also disable this feature herein." Great - BUT HOW?? I have tried a lot of tweaking without success. I want to be able to play bass lines down in the bottom two octaves, so having those keys invoke presets simply won't work for me and MUST be disabled. I have a feeling that there are controls somewhere using the hieroglyphics 'buttons' shown at the bottom of the Banks and Presets menu - but I can't find anywhere a decoder ring for what those buttons do.
OK, after further searching I discovered how to disable the Bottom-octave-keys-to Presets thing. <Big Sigh!> But I'm still curious about those hieroglyphics...
@@pdxfunkjunkie Sorry for the late reply - under the "Expert" section if you select MIDI from the right hand side, there is an option to choose the MIDI NOTE to DB LAYOUT. It's here that you can choose "None" and that should disable this for you (sorry if you already figured that out before I was able to respond). Regarding the symbols at the bottom of the Presets screen - from Left to Right these are: Add a new Bank, Delete a bank, Add new preset, Overwrite current preset, Move current preset to different bank, Delete a preset, Random and Search. Hope that helps!
@@DaveypooMMM - THANKS! Very helpful. Regarding the hieroglyphic 'buttons' shown at the bottom of the Banks and Presets menu, I finally figured out that those controls are all described, one by one, in the text descriptions on pp. 3-4-5 of the owner's manual. D'OH!! After quite a bit of tweaking parameters such as "brightness", Organ Model, Leslie etc. I finally feel like I have a pretty good-sounding setup now. I plan to delete most (if not all) of the existing drawbar presets and replace them with clones of my own personal new preset, so that all my tweaks get perpetuated as a starting point for every subsequent preset I create. SPEAKING of drawbars, I just took delivery of an iCON MIDI controller with NINE faders, for easier control of manipulating tone changes on the fly during performance. Wish me luck - I'm no master at programming MIDI hardware, but I figure I'll be a lot more educated by the time I get this little number set up and working smoothly.
@@pdxfunkjunkie Good luck!
Neo soul keys was great but neo soul keys misses warmth. Many presets but few are good.
I find NeoSoul Keys 2 plenty warm, but lately I've been using VTines and it gives me everything I need for Rhodes tones. 😁👍
