First of all, thanks for checking out the video! I'm certainly a newbie at the instrument and I'm excited to dive into a deeper study of it. Also, I wanted to share the retuning idea to help piano-centric composers similar to my background start to think of other ways to solve problems with an instrument that's not chromatic. I'm curious about the capo, does it only stop certain strings? on a guitar the capo fits across all the strings, resulting in only transposing the entire instrument up. The retuning solution was to allow me to use the bottom and middle strings as a drone in the minor mode I wanted to use. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me--cheers!

@@KristopherCarterComposer Spot on. The capo acts like the more common guitar ones, like your guessed. It transposes all three strings up. Typically you do this by only one fret, which is of course a whole step. Now you're in Dorian, with an open strum producing EAE. I think that's what you wanted, right? And with the capo on you can also use the 6 fret instead of the usual 6+ to get an even more minor-sounding effect (I think that makes it aeolian but I don't remember exactly).

@@Gaechko24 that’s an interesting idea, basically make a new fret where there wasn’t one? The problem is, when you do that you can no longer play any notes below the pencil - it becomes like the lowest note of the instrument! I appreciate you sharing the idea though🙏 I just uploaded a new video, explaining how I ended up solving the problem!

​@@KristopherCarterComposer I got a dulcimer for Christmas and was wondering about the same problem. In my head, I thought of the same concept, basically a "dulcimer capo". I hadn't thought of inserting a pencil underneath to accomplish it! As for the low note issue, I guess you could tune it down, particularly if you're only under the first fret. I'm curious to see your solution!
