Explore Oita Japan Season 4 has come to an end!
This season, we once again introduced the charms of Oita Prefecture together with students from both Japan and all over the world studying here. This included activities and events with nature, festivals, food, and facilities throughout spring, summer, autumn, and winter. We hope we were able to show you the unique experiences you can enjoy in Oita!
Finally, we’ll finish up with our customary compilation video. The hosts who appeared in the videos up until now will introduce the events planned for 2024 in Oita by each month.

Spring is the time for light-pink cherry blossoms, and in 2024, the famous hot spring town of Beppu will celebrate its 100th anniversary as a municipality. You can enjoy cherry blossoms all throughout the area together with high-quality hot springs, and there are also loads of special anniversary events planned. Families heading to Japan will also love the kids’ activities during Japan’s Golden Week holiday period.
Japan’s rainy season is adorned by beautiful hydrangeas. The humid weather in early summer also makes it a good time for indoor activities like visiting museums and bathing in hot springs. The magnificent mountains and coasts of Oita also offer an escape from the summer heat with camping, water sports, and more. Summer is likewise filled with fireworks and local festivals, bringing joy to each of Oita’s cities.
Autumn is the harvest season in Japan, so visitors can treat themselves to the best of Oita’s gourmet cuisine. You can chow down on fruit at its freshest by picking it at farms, relish meals made with seasonal specialties, and discover a bounty of other Oita culinary gems! Plus, the stunning autumn foliage, which dyes the forests of Oita’s rural villages in splendid colors, is worth visiting for alone, and it’s a great time for outdoor activities, too.
There are lots of events to join during “shogatsu,” Japan’s largest holiday period that runs between Christmas and New Year’s week. Ski resorts are open, Christmas fireworks and year-end events are held, and shrine visits are a must, making it a very busy but fun-filled time to be in Oita! Of course, winter is also the best period to fully appreciate Oita’s hot springs.
