A slightly different view...
Deculture!
Music: "Fall in Love" by Phantogram
"White Lies" by Paul van Dyk feat. Jessica Sutta
Animes used: A ton of Macross
A very long time ago I got the idea to do an AMV in the style of a music video with Sheryl Nome and for awhile the song I wanted to use was "White Lies" by Paul van Dyk. It wasn't until around early 2014 while doing laundry laundromat that I heard Phantogram's "Fall in Love" and it immediately clicked that this song would be a better fit for a Sheryl Nome video.
Some more years would pass and It wouldn't be until late 2019 that I decided to go all in making this video. By that time the concept had expanded to using Firebomber from Macross 7 as a backing band and Walkure as backup dancers of sorts. The decision to style the video in black and white was to hopefully blend all of the sources together, especially Macross 7 which was done on cel and putting cel animation next to digital tends to be quite a contrast.
Work began in late 2019-early2020...and then Covid happened. This project really helped me in getting through the early portion of the pandemic but even then given the amount of masking needed, it was still a bit much. Also at the time I was going through some personal and professional changes. So much so that I stopped working on the video and seriously thought about scrapping it entirely, twice.
But, few can resist the siren call of Sheryl Nome and after getting a new and better job and doing some personal care, I picked up the video again in earnest in early 2022. The goal being to have a presentable video for Nan Desu Kan's AMV contest that year.
Somehow, i was able to finish the video enough in time for the August deadline and was hoping to upload it for release in October. But I guess I underestimated how burnt out I was from that last push from January to August.
So here we are now in early 2023. This is by far the longest I have ever worked on an AMV. But I am glad that the vision I had in my head is mostly realized and hope you enjoy it.
A very very special thanks to my beta testers whose feedback really helped in giving this video some needed polish.

Films used: Kino's Journey Music: "A Horse With No Name" by America So, usually when I abandon a project I just completely stop and usually archive it to look at later. This time is a bit different, I wanted to "complete" this video just so I could move on. I got tired of working on it and really didn't want to put forth any effort to try to improve it. This was an idea that's been in my head f...

Music Used: "Flying Dragon" by Yoko Kanno, Hajime Mizoguchi. Films used: A bunch of anime using planes. A short little collab between me and ailynerie done for fun and I guess a bit of AMV therapy. The idea itself is quite old, going back to 2008. Films Used: Spirited Away Music used: "Home Sweet home"-Christophe Heral A remaster of the very first AMV I ever did. Not much of a concept, its basically a 3 minute recap of "Spirited Away" but we all have to start somewhere. It also features one of my favorite songs ( Home Sweet Home) from one of my favorite video games (Beyond Good and Evil)

This is so fucking cool and I'm so so happy that you're getting recognition for this!!! this is amazing
When this came out in 2010 Evangelion was around 15 years old, and nearly 15 years later I stumble on this nostalgic passion project AMV. Let's cherish the time we have and live in the present as though reminiscing on a great memory. :)
Watching this like 12 years later but. damn it’s incredible!
This is a work of art!
what a tribute, thank you
素晴らしい作品だと思います。楽しかったです。
Yooooooo!!!!!!! How was this work of art not part of an opening ceremony to another DAICON.
Classy Anime Choice. Great Anime Song combo. I wanted to do a KJ AMV for quite some time now, but my concept never came together. I can watch this instead now.
This rules. You rule. Love Macross. Love this mashup.Amazing visuals. Great tribute to the franchise. I watch this on repeat.
I love this, Im sad I didnt watch this video 14 years ago, but here I am. Blessings.
Another yearly rewatch of an old favorite AMV. Cheers.
Rest in peace gainax 😢
Only meant to stay a while... farewell GAINAX 🫡
beautiful ❤
I cant believe I never saw this masterpiece of an edit almost 15 years later! This should be in the panthon of legendary anime edits, especially for 2010!! There is no video essay in the world that could express the passion for the medium and the impact of Daicon IV more than this video. This might a few years too late for you to see but thank you so much for making this. Im sure Hideaki Anno, Hiroyuki Yamaga and Takami Akai would all be proud.
I know, right? As someone who watched majority of the stuff here (even the bad stuff), finding this afterwards felt like bliss.

Even if you say you didn't try to improve it, I really liked it. Reminds me of my travels, and you really captured the feel of the anime.
That I'm sitting here feeling joy at seeing favorite Gainax characters flash by reminds me so much of how I felt seeing the Daikon IV intro the first time in the 90s at a Con.. Thank you!
