Let's Replace a SeaDoo Boarding Step (2010-2017)
How to remove the ladder or boarding step AKA Overmolded Bar on a SeaDoo part# 292001204
Ahoy skipper!
Today we're replacing the boarding step on my 2012 Sea-Doo GTX
The rubber on the old step turned to goo and was pretty nasty.
I’m Chris and I starting A mobile jetski repair business in 2012 after being laid off from my job as an engineering assistant at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.

My mission with this channel is to give JetSki owners & marine mechanics all the info you need to maintain, diagnose and repair your PWC and have a good time doin it!
I know its a pain to have to drag your ski to the dealer, wait a month, pay a ton of money and then take another half a day or more out of your busy schedule to go back down and pick it up.
If you’re local to Cape Cod and need service I’m available.

Welcome to PWC School! maintain and fix your personal watercraft (SeaDoo) - with a funny dog barking
i just use a 3/8 extension with wobble head and that gives the needed angle for the socket to remove and install the bolt
So you're just a parts changer because you never did figure out exactly what it was
So you spend your time making snarky comments on the internet. It was the thermostat which isn't common on SeaDoos from my experience. Thanks for stopping by 🫡
Question I have a sleeve I can’t take out on the left side what do you recommend I do everything else came off good just that one sleeve is giving me a hard time
You'll need heat and vice grips. Clamp the vice grips on the sleeve and work it back and forth. It will chew up the sleeve so I carry extra sleeves.
Nicely done, I’m new to the world of jet skis but my girlfriend sucked up a rock into her dad’s so I’ve been fixing it for him since I’m more mechanically inclined. I’ve got everything off and ready to put the new wear ring in. Do you have any suggestions to make my life a little easier with that? lol. Thanks for the uploads!
I used to cut them out with a sawzall but now I use a torch to melt the plastic and pry it out with a screwdriver (this way is faster) You can freeze the new wear ring so it slides in easier but usually its not necessary
@@ccjetsports duly noted! Thank you, sir!
Hi, when you install it back the ibr did you use any silicone on the black gasket? After is all done with the ibr, do you have to calibrate it with buds? Last when install it did the pinion that has the two screws that move the ibr is that looks flush or a bid on angle?
When I replace the IBR Actuator (motor/module) I don't use silicone on the rubber gasket, yes a new motor needs to be married with BUDS and the new unit comes in the all the way up position (forward angle)
Thank you for sharing
Dang! I took the whole ibr bucket, brackets, and steering off first.
I'm always worried I'll snap a bolt off doing that. There are lot of salty skis around here
amzn.to/3yV6omf ~ Battery Load Tester
My right bolt holding the U arm is loose, but spinning and not coming out any further- any ideas on how to get it to come out? I realize the fitting it screws into is likely spinning/stripped on the inside, but I can't find a recommendaiton on how to get it out- this likely also will need a new RH support plate assembly right?
It sucks when that happens. To get it off you need to get the nutsert in the fixing plate to not spin. Sometimes you can clamp it with vice grips over the plastic, but usually I have to cut away the plastic to get the vice grips on the brass piece. The worst ones are the GTI models that don’t have an access hatch.
This video was intended specifically for the Yamaha EX platform which has a plastic body panel directly above the rear spark plug.
Can’t believe 2024 and you don’t have a SPARK PLUG socket !! That’s ok. Keep struggling. Snap on makes one it’s less expensive than whatever it is your doing ❤ 🔧🔧🔧🔧
I wonder why spark plug sockets are such an emotional trigger 🤔
Taking out spark plugs and re installing with an electric ratchet is just insane if and when I retire if I seen this you sir would not be allowed to work on any of my equipment I can just hear the phone call now sir the head on your engine is stripped couldn't get it out yeahhhhh good bye
I've changed thousands of spark plugs this way with zero issues so your weird superstitions are unfounded. I hope these fun comments keep coming... engagement helps views
@@ccjetsports oh there will be I've got 40 plus years in the business this is not the right way one day you will see it only needs to happen one time you have 0 feelings in that electric ratchet
Sorry, but using an electric ratchet isn't problematic. It saves a lot of time and as you can see in the clip I also use a manual ratchet. Thanks for stopping by to announce that I'll never have the privilege to work on your precious equipment. It pains me deeply and will surely be the reason for many sleepless nights
and get the spark plug socket....
Ever install LFR spark plugs and your socket gets stuck in the hole? Probably not… but that’s why the rubber piece is removed from that socket. Thanks for the advice 🫡
I switched to all locking extensions, tbh I think harbor freight has them, but if it works for you don't change it, need a spark plug stock pile like that
@@ccjetsports No, never had any socket stuck.
The locking extensions are definitely the way to go! They wear out though, I need to order another set
Great information, thanks!
Happy to help! It’s frustrating when you buy new hubs and they don’t fit 🤦♂️
Para que sirve ese liquido?
Es anticongelante para vehículos recreativos para climas fríos. Reemplaza el agua para evitar daños por expansión. (Google translation from) It’s RV Antifreeze for cold weather climates. It replaces the water to prevent damage from expansion.
Could reduce your cost expenses by quite a bit. Replacing tension tool and buckles with one simple easy knot to learn. Vents take 1 second to cut out of scrap tarp. Using 2x3s instead of 2x4. And plastic end caps replaced with a small piece of lumber and tarp scrap as padding. Also find a store that does price matching to order your tarp from. I get 200 lb rolls for $450 thats $2.25 per lb. You are at $4.50 per lb. You pay twice as much.
Thank you!! Great advice, how are you moving around a 200# roll?
@@ccjetsports I built a trolley out of a hand truck and wood that lays down and is able to roll around and has a spot on the back to strap a propane tank to. I could send pictures. I'm out right now doing 6 boats today
Jiggle wires, move them, sometimes it's just a bad connection. Remember: they are around a lot of moisture 😊
For sure, this past season I had a bunch of 2010 - 2012 SeaDoos that had bad fuse blocks. The ones that had hatches in the back. The fix was to replace the wiring harness.
Yeah but how many do you do a day
For me it’s an upsell. I earn more with SeaDoo maintenance which is my focus. I wrap around 40 JetSkis and a handful of boats in a season. You could easily do 3 or 4 in a day including travel.
I have a bucket truck😂
Hell yeah!! I’ll have to get one for next season 🤔
Ummm wtf.. just remove it
This is easier and faster. No need to disconnect any cables or throw your back out.
what are you tying your strapping to so it doesnt fall down?
On this model I loop it around the mirrors to hold the banding up. When I ratchet it tight at the back the banding wants to slide under. Also n these Yamahas when the wrap shrinks it raises up in the middle so I run a strap under I show how here 👇 SeaDoo Shrinkwrap ~ this is the way ua-cam.com/video/q3FkVMIQ16g/v-deo.html
Fantastic! Before i tackle this, so yiu recall where the hidden bolts are?
Just under the plastic caps in the back and don’t forget the 3 at the fuel cap
I feel your pain lol
I’m getting too old for this sh!t 🤣
2 questions, 1.- if I already changed the oil, may I pull out the filter to check if nut is tie without make a mess with the oil? 2.- what happen if accidentally I leave my Seadoo running for 5 minutes, water was running, do I need to check something that probably got damaged ?
1 ~ It shouldn’t come pouring out, but could get messy. If you ran the ski and it didn’t leak from the cap the nut is probably fine. You can usually tell if the nut backs off when removing the cap. The bolt is hard to turn like it’s starting to seize in there 2 ~ If the water runs for too long without the motor running it will eventually fill the exhaust and spill into the engine. If the motor won’t turn over remove the spark plugs and pump the water out of the cylinders. If the motor runs check that the oil isn’t milky with water. If there’s water in the oil, change the oil and look in the service manual for boil off procedure
@@ccjetsports 1.- I turned on to run some antifreeze and move the water out and I did not see oil out around the filter cap, but I clear remember the filter cap was not fully close against the bottom even when screw was tied 2.- the water run for 5 minutes, but motor was running, my concern is not about water inside the exhaust is more about it was running 5 minutes out of water and I heard carbon seal or other things can get damaged due that. Thanks a lot for your answer and your time
First video I watched and it was exactly the problem I had. Thank you!!!
Nice!! Always good to hear that a video helped 😊 I worked on a video today for a support bracket I made to prop up the Spark deck, should be posted tomorrow
Mil not millimeter 🤣
This just came up on my feed.... when you cleared the coolant, did you replace it? I didn't see you ask the owner or check the coolant with a hygrometer. Could be the thermostat but could have also been bad/old coolant. Which may have been fixed inadvertantly when you cleared the system.
I did check the coolant with a hydrometer and it tested fine. Also tested the wiring and sensor. I was expecting to find some gel/goo in the system because it had green antifreeze and it should have had red. But no gel and the coolant was good. I wasn’t expecting the thermostat to fix the problem either. I’ve never had a SeaDoo thermostat go bad on me out of hundreds that I’ve worked on.
@@ccjetsports good to hear you checked. Fyi, Scarab came with green xps coolant (2 year kind) for many years. Mine did too (165 as well). I just switched to the red/orange 5 year version for 2023. Head gasket was also possible, but not common on young engines like this.
I'm gonna have to recheck mine..just did oil change. About to put away for winter. Glad I found this video.
I had one of those nuts back out on me yesterday! The bolt was a little hard to remove, felt like it was seized up a bit. Sure enough the nut was backed off.

Great work...what's your opinion on the overall quality of Scarab Jetboats?
They’re well built and reliable. I’ve had issues with the O2 sensors fouling out from the catalyst portion of the exhaust leaking. Besides that just typical SeaDoo maintenance stuff that gets pricey ~ supercharger, intercooler & throttle body Personally I’d buy a Yamaha over Scarab. Besides the other stuff I just mentioned I like how Yamaha has access to the driveshaft if you accidentally suck up a rope
I can’t start any skis with BUDS connected. If I push the start button nothing happens and there is not any option to start the ski through buds itself. Does anyone have any insight they can offer?
That stinks, I haven’t had that happen. Maybe try programming a new key. I can shut mine off with Buds but start them with the start/stop switch
Where did you get your system?
@@ccjetsportsfrom PowerSports Diagnostics. I also have one I bought years ago from Scan World Systems which sold out and now doesn’t support or honor their “lifetime updates” 😒. I sure know how to pick them I guess. I was actually able to get one to start connected today but I had to disconnect the external power interface to get it to work.
I got mine from Matt @ Torx. I don’t have the external power interface so that’s probably why I haven’t run into that

i need help test drove a 2020 vx crusier ho an when riding it the sterring wheel was slanted to the left wasnt straight is this a easy adjustment thanks
You can adjust the cable by the end fittings. The one at the back nozzle is easier to get to. Loosen the locking nut then screw the fitting in or out to change the length of the cable.
how do you make a steering adjustment so if it is slightly pulling to left or right, you can re align it?
There are end fittings on the steering cable that screw in or out to change the length of the cable
It was moored in a bay behind his house so no wasn’t flushed 🤷♂️ He got a new boat with outboards on it
I've got a 2019 Yamaha SX195, this video made me a bit sad. We love our boat and take care of it like crazy. Well, I guess the owner made the correct choice for their needs and usage.
@@MichalLempicki Yamahas are great! but their jet pumps get locked up and are hard to get apart. I like the Solas all stainless wearings but the rule of thumb stainless to aluminum is <10% and when you add that much stainless it eats the aluminum faster
I hope I won't have to replace ours anytime soon. I do an inspection at the start of every season. Solas products are good, but if I'm going to need to replace it, I'll probably use OEM parts. @@entervanman
Holy Cow! how long did that boat stay in the water? Wondering what is caked up on the internals, that thing was probably never flushed.

Hello quick question. I removed my ibr from my 2015 seadoo gti 130 but one of the sleeves seems to be stuck inside and won't budge. Tried penetrating oil but no luck. Any suggestions. Thanks in advance.
When the one that goes in the aluminum part of the ibr motor gets stuck I use heat and vise grips. It chews up the sleeve so I keep new ones with me to replace it
Thanks so much I will try the heat and vise grips

I just bought a 2012 Sea Doo GTI 130 in January. First time out it was running like a Champ. Unfortunately I went into a cove and the ski died. I think it sucked up a stick or rock. I got off the ski and bounced it up and down a few times to try and dislodge obstruction. The ski was able to start up but couldn't go more than 5mph. If I tried to accelerate more than 5mph, it would shake and make a terrible noise. It was like when a motorcycle or car keep popping back into neutral. How would you fix this? Is there a good video on the process?
I have some footage, just haven’t had time to make a proper video yet. I would grab a PDF service manual. They’re usually $20. If you email me at chris@ccjetsports.com I’ll send you a Dropbox link to mine
I made a quick 4 part short series about taking off the IBR hope it helps ua-cam.com/video/cYdufkaqWXg/v-deo.html
