Wow, that's exactly the same as my list!

I’ve found that your motivations and goals are useful for your DM to know about. Therefore you should be open with your DM what you want your character to achieve so that it can be incorporated into the game you’re all creating together. My players all have great motivations, from being a lost princess potentially reclaiming their throne, saving a boyfriend they purposely sent to Hell, saving the Elven people from a fate worse than death, making the best demonic soup for the Church of Asmodeus council, or just hitting on the other PCs Dads because that’s your thing - the intersection of how the Players share their motivations with each other is a rich broth of plot to sustain the game.

Great video - everything you said is how I found my D&D club and met new friends to play D&D with (found a group on Meetup, discovered their Discord, played at the local game shop and running games on Roll20). I totally agree with the world building being led by the players. I’m currently running a game set in Dungeons of Drakkenheim and while I have key locations where NPC goals can take place (such as the Wizards’ Tower - a nice place to fight monsters, find treasure and get paid), my players will do amazing random stuff instead (such as not going to the Wizards’ Tower but instead raise dead family members and bring forth a demonic zombie invasion upon a helpless village). We’re one week shy of two years of playing the game together and I’m loving every moment of this player lead madness ☺️

Whaaaa!?!? I was forced to play a monk and made the DM regret it. I was like unamormored-fine- my character will wear only the bones, and perhaps skins from creatures found or those fallen to my fists-- if you will not allow this i travel naked. Oh, everybody lost their armor & weapons? Good thing all need to equip are my fists. . . I sharpened my teeth & nails and got good. I knew I wasn't stealing the show, but I certainly was not friendly & forgettable. Just forgettable enough to pull off absurd stunts to avoid meticulousky crafted TPKs.

In a world of magic your world can definitely be conscious and striving for a specific goal.

I try to have a main plot that occurs over time, wether the party helps it or not, and many subplots that i assign to occur over time, or to happen when the pcs interact with them. That way, random npcs that the party hasnt seen in 5 session have developed and gone on their own chsracter arcs, without the party. It also gives the party more things to explore, because just hanging around with npcs will cause the story to happen around them

I love playing as a rogue, it's just has such a simple yet effective kit. Role-playing is also gold,there's this stereotype of the edgy rogue, but you don't really role-playing rogue as its fullest until you play as a childish and empathic character arcane trickster. Also, sneack->hide->sneak->hide... is broken.

I feel like people shy away from playing barbarian bc it seems like the most basic class but it can be really fun

Here is an idea someone I know informed me of: They are groups of people that in world where everyone knows how to use magic or ki. They are the only group that care not use magic at all. They are completely unable to interact with magic or ki on a base level means they have to do everything without either. They also have to avoid being exposed as being unable to use either. Doing so would get them hunted down The reasoning which they would be unaware of it because these groups are actually gods and goddess that have not only lose their powers but because of that they have also lost their memories of ever being gods and goddesses in the first place. They can not use magic or ki because they were never able to do either in the first place as Ki and magic were something that require belief in a god or goddess to turn mana into Ki or magic. Gods and Goddess used mana directly thus when they lost their memories of being such they lost their ability to use mana and can not use the way everyone else does. The reason they lost them was because mortal created something that was suppose to free them from their control however once it did. Rather then allowing the mortal to not be overseen by anyone or thing, it took over as the singular god of the world and now hunting down the only ones that could pose a threat to it, the original gods and goddesses should they ever regain their memories or their ability to use mana

DnD Beyond is a godsend. I love paper sheets but my handwriting is almost illegible! Bring back the DnD Beyond micro transactions to get just a single subclass for £2. This was a decent explaination of how it works though. Good job bro!

This sounds like it's going to make things difficult for DMs. Players changing abilities is going to lead to problem games.

I'm about to start my first new D&D campaign since the OGL debacle. Character rules are PHB 2014 Classes/Subclass, species, spells. Standard array, no feats, no multi classing.

In my defense as a Sorcerer, who needs a book when the spectacle is all in film.

Character sheets are genuinely so confusing so I always just use dnd beyond tbf

I am just about to start my first campaign, my ass could but choose a pixie, I had to beg the DM, and homebrewing the whole thing in roll 20 is painfull as shit. Plus I have no fucking Idea of how ima roleplay faina. A character that doesn't follow human moral? how am I supposed to know how to roleplay that when my autistic ass does not even understand human morals in the first place

I really like the concept of a Ranger. I want to love the class. Unfortunately its implementation has not lived up to that concept. Even now in 2024, they want Rangers to focus more on hunter's mark, but also didn't make the damage scale up like sneak attack, and is still concentration.

As a Druid. No. Maybe I'm the odd one out but my ass has never cared for horses in my life. They're cool mind you but I stay well away from the tamed murder donkey's. I was however the type to stay inside and read about the outside that's correct. Still do that to this day actually. Quirks of being a marine biologist.

I'll give you a little tip, make content you're well versed in, and if not at least do research beforehand. People would probably be really interested in your DnD knowledge but when you combine it with something you havent even bothered to research a tiny bit it just becomes.. well kinda annoying

They considered making more drastic changes to the wizard in the UA. From lvl 5 onwards, wizards could take any spell they know and tweak it, making it a new version of the spell only they could cast. Essentially, at the cost of a day or two and a lot of gold, wizards could give spells PERMANENT metamagic effects. Yes, like the sorcerer, but forever. The general response was: "Wow, wow, wow, wow! We are buffing the Wizard?!" And WotC scrapped it.

as someone who watches anime i can give my take on which class they are too... also note this is just my opinion :D Luffy: monk; he fights with just his fist and one of is signature moves is "gum gum gattling" which is him launching a flurry of punches....a flurry of blows if you will ;D Kenshin: paladin; in his tale he is a legendary swordman who was known as "batosai" aka manslayer, but he has grown tired of war and wants to redeem himself for all the lives he has taken and has made a vow to never kill again and his reformed fighting style reflects that when ever he is pushed into a fight L: artificer; he is a genius who is a world renowned investigator, who is monumental in tracking down kira's true identity and easily figures out that Kira is using some kind of magical artifact (the deathnote) one could also make an arguement for rogue, as he isnt that phsyically inclined but has a huge focus on skills Tanjiro: fighter paladin or ranger; he is a trained swordsman specialized in hunting demons, so i think any of these could fit Zoro: barbarian; a master swordsman who refuses to use armour for what ever reason, but is renowned for tanking "fatal" hits regardless....also has a bit of a temper... and many have described him as "too angry to die" Jotaro: monk; has a "spirit summon" that is a intrinsinctly linked to him, if it takes damage so does he, and this "spirit summon" defeats his enemies with a flurry of punches Gutts: fighter or paladin (oath of vengeance) a master fighter who had a vendeta against demons and monsters and such.... Kakashi: rogue; literally a ninja.... i could also see an arguement for monk due to his master of tiajitsu Levi: fighter or ranger: literally a master fighter specialized in taking out "giants" Ed: wizard or artificer: he is an alchemist who is renowned for his tactical cunning and prodigal understanding of alchemy in his world alchemy is a "magical science" that works like transmutation turning one set of things into another as long as the exhange from one thing to another is equivalent Gon: monk; an unarmed fighter who uses "nen" techniques, nen is that worlds equivalent to qi Dio: monk; even though he is basically a vampire, he fights the exact same way as the hero Jotaro, but with some added time manipulation, and is trying to obtain godhood aka BBEG status Light aka Kira: warlock or cleric: uses a deathnote (a magical artifact gifted to him by a god of death) to kill those he deems evil or corrupt Leluche: artificer or warlock; a master tactician who pilots a mech, and has obtained a unique power from someone else that only he can use Astroboy: id argue monk; its a robot (warforged?)superhero who just uses their inbuilt robotics to fight... artificer works as well maybe... along with paladin...all could fit id say Naruto: rogue or warlock; a ninja... but also has a "contract" with the 9 tailed spirit, aka one of 9 beings often called or refered to as "natural calamities" Spike: rogue; hes a space outlaw Sailor moon: druid; gains power from the moon Vagita: monk; a martial art master who uses chi techniques (basicly ki) Goku: monk; a martial art master who uses chi techniques (basicly ki) anyone else that makes an appearance that i didn't list is unknown to me as to who they are so i don't feel confident giving them a class (sorry to any fans who know those characters and was actually reading this)

The differentiation of feats isn't about complexity, it's about power level. All of the non-starter feats include an ability score increase, for example.
