Ukulele Skill Builder G shape Moveable
Outstanding! Now tell us where in the heck you can buy Low G Baritone strings. Not on Amazon. They've got High G all day long.
I'm so glad I watched your video cuz I found a ukulele very cheap with the fourth g-string broke so I got a new set of strings and almost broke the string again trying to tune it to the high g 😅 every tuning of ukulele video I watched was with the high G tuning
Can I tune my TENOR to DGBE like a baritone? Do I buy baritone strings? and then should I buy a low D string or order a low D set similar to your reference in this video? to get more bass notes? BTW.... Your Low/high g video is awesome !! The most knowledgable I have seen !! Thanks
It is not recommended to use tune a Tenor Ukulele with a standard Baritone, or Tenor Guitar string set. Best to get a Baritone Uke. But then all your chords will be similar to guitar chord shapes - you would not be able to follow ukulele chord charts. I'd recommend sticking to Tenor - and buy a Baritone uke. I also play guitar, and seldom if ever play my Baritone. Hope this helps. Thnaks for the nice comments. KEV
thank you i can finnaly get through the christmas party without worrying about playing the intro
Excellent lesson. Thank you.
The best ukulele video teaching! Thanks so much ❤
I use tenor ukes with both high g and low. Horses for courses and all that. Low g for jazz picking and chord backing, high g for claw hammer. Get both.
Excellent suggestion! I tell my students to keep their old ukuleles for High G and use their new Tenors for Low G. Perfecto!
@@kevrones The fact is now even low end priced instruments are generally well made and playable. You don't need top end ukes/guitars to get a life changing tool. I started playing on the most awful acoustic guitar ever made! I am glad I did.
Your playing is marvelous! Are you self learn or you have go through a professional music school?
Please come to Singapore open a shop
This was fantastic to watch and learn, thanks man!
Thanks! I appreciate it! KEV
Brilliant, just part learned and couldnt figure the drop in of low note , like a 3 note drop eg; BUT on high G I'd be lost in looking for that bass note needed when hitting G string .. low G and sorted 😊 .. cheers fella, appreciate this help !!
I got it! Now everyone gets to listen for hours! Thank you!!! ❤
Very helpful - thanks
I rarely leave comment on UA-cam, but this tutorial just unlocked something in my brain!!! WOOOOW!! So glad I came across your tutorial from 4 years ago. Thank you!
The best is high g with metal low c.
I like your videos and books. I'm an Italian 65 years old and got your Fingerstyle and Blues books to learn ukulele
Enjoyed your video. I think you are right, everyone wants that low G because it makes sense if you ever played piano or another instrument. Also, you are very talented and thank you for sharing all this information.
Low G just makes sense to me. I just made a three knot at the bridge and used the lock method to wind the G nylon guitar string onto the uke. No stress on the bridge or neck, sounds great and stays in tune.
ThankQ
Wow, thanks for sharing , learn a lot.
Thank you! Awesome.
Thank you for sharing this great tutorial. Can someone please explain the "hooting annie" strum.
Thank you!
By board you’re good. Can you download that skill into my brain LOL
Another vote for blues riffs, licks and scales here
I have made a few Ukuleles recently. Both Tenor and Baritone. I have fitted steel strings and a ghosted magnetic single pick up. I have reinforced the neck with a stainless steel rod. I was inspired by a local expert player, who plays lead in a ukulele orchestra and he wanted to project the sound better. They are all low G . As a CBG guitar Builder, your video has really helped me understand the concept of high and low G string Thanks I will recommend it to my customers.
nice job, thanks for your patience!
Your quite welcome! That was one of my first ever videos. Play on! KEV
This was absolutely fantastic!! It answered everything that I wanted to know. Thank you! Now comes the practice.
Great lesson buddy, Im learning the concepts of a uke because I brought my daughter an electric acoustic uke for her birthday. Im a guitarist myself and was surprised how high the g string was, compared to the other three strings. Thanks to this lesson I understand now and will be buying a set of low g strings, because I feel my daughter will be more able to learn easier with a low g. I can help her with her scales now because yes it does sound off with a high g string. Cheers.
They’re both useful. But better learn the more sophisticated four finger voicings if you don’t want to sound “droney” in the low g tuning. Open chords don’t sound as good on a low g. He really didn’t articulate this well, though he almost did (at 12:12)
excellent information and teaching
Great lesson Kev, thank you.
Almost got it. Trying to figure out the count after the first two (1=down, 2= wap, then what? Up-=and, up=and, wap=4 Very beginner here. This is one of the best online teachers. Would love a count out. And a shot of the strumming hand. Thanks for the tips.
Finally nailed it ! Thank you for this awesome video, you're a great teacher !!
Thanks, do the low G and high G have the same chords?
The Chords for Low and High G are identical. The strings have the same notes G C E A in Standard tuning. The only difference is the High G has a thin 4th srtring and Low G has a thicker 4th string. If you has a Baritone ukulele - then ALL the chords are different names. Thanks KEV
Pretty fun, KEV. you're making practice a joy again! Thanks
I've taught 1000's of students. When they start getting better they buy a better ukulele and keep there old one as a high G. Almost none of them every go back to the High G. It's nice to have the option.
Thanks Kev- Great to hear you are still kicking!! Prayers to follow. mike
Stage IV - Still above dirt and fighting!
Hey Kev, just stumbled across this video and you are indeed the okayist uke player i've ever seen. i never thought this song would be possible at my level but you sure make it seem doable. i understand you are suffering some very serious medical condition and i don't know if you are with us or jamming with Jesus but i'll raise a prayer and remain hopeful you'll help me on my uke journey. God Bless, Mike
Still above dirt. Thanks for the kind words. Stage 4 and fighting. I plan on launching my membership site in June. Cheers!
Thanks for all this great info. About to get a low G string set on my Kala SMH-T soon. Sounds like I need the wound G for the different sound and more punch, as you say. Trying to decide on brand of strings now. Recommendations ? Thanx. Great playing by the way ! Oh to play like you ! Just started learning uke a little over 2 yrs ago.
You are doing great. I have ONLINE classes every Saturday for beginners Level 1 snd Level 2. Visit thetikination.com and sign up for one. I'll teach you to play like me, I was using Aquilla Round wound strinds - they have the sound I like. The problem with those is they wear out to fast and I had to replace them weekly. (I play a lot). Currenty I use Pepe Romero strings with a Low G. These are not round wound and last a long time. Keep playing!
O I like you!
You are the best teacher of all of us The Teachers. I wish I had known before. I love it anyway.
Well I like you too! Thanks for your kind words, Check out my online classed at thrtikination.com. They are donation based and we have really fun people in there. Vist TheTikiNation.com to see the choices. Keep playing! KEV
YOU are a great teacher! 😀
Ery informative👍
My soprano doesn’t have side fits but now I can put them there. ❤Got a concert uke that already has them😊
Fantastic,loved the video😊😊
Thank you so much 😀
anyone know the name of the riff at 6:12 cant figure it out for the life of me
Duelling banjos from movie Deliverance?
what other songs work with this grove ?
It's a Funky Strum! I jam with people and use this strum with different progressions. Think of strums as "Tools in your Ukulele Toolkit". All strums can be modified and repurposed. You learn one and put ot in your "Ukulele Toolkit". When you need a "tool" you look in your Ukulele Tool kit of learned techiques. Off hand without a lot of research I can't think of a song list that uses this strum. Most people can't play like Tracy. Shis unique! I do use the techniques from this strum often... mostly because its fun.
Great teacher :D thank you
Great lesson Kev 👍
Thanks! KEV
Late to the party but Thank you very much!
Brilliant video. Very informative and useful. As a guitarist on and off for 50 years, I'm now, finally learning the ukulele. My 1st uke, a soprano with high G, I'm undecided if my better quality next one should be concert or tenor. Love your playing so much.
Rock on! Learning the ukulele will really improve your guitar playing. I also am an avid fingerstyle guitarist. All the chords on the ukulele are 4-string inversions on the guitar - think of it that way when your on your guitar. For me it really opened up a whole new world n the guitar above the 5th fret. Keep playing! KEV
