Passed through Gilroy some 30 years ago. My impression of the town was one of commercial gunk, ugly signage. I found nothing attractive.

Born and raised there but too many out of towners moved in and I left,,,,,so glad I did,,,,it was a great little town at one time,,,,not so much anymore,,,,it's not affordable at all and the housing is very expensive there,,,,it's typical California living,,,,

Umm yeah, 3rd generation Gilroy, checkin in. Come to Gilroy for the winery's and the Outlet Center, and the Garlic speciality stores. The downtown.... it's mostly buildings that are either vacant or red tagged unreinforced brick buildings that it makes no economic sense to dump millions into to make them safe. That being said the restaurants are ok, but there aren't that many of them. Come early because most of the stores close at like 5.

I stayed in Pennsylvania for two years and drove all the way to California. My first stop in California is Gilroy. In Gilroy, my car windows was smashed first time in my lifetime. Lost my backpack, macbook, wallet... I know I should be more careful and avoid put anything visible in my car. But no doubt, Gilroy taught me a lesson.
