Holy Schnikeys! That is how I would describe not just the views on this course but also the challenging terrain we traversed throughout 51 miles. And yes, this was a 50-mile ultramarathon that was actually 51 miles! (Thankfully, we knew about this extra mile well before we even crossed the start line as it was denoted in the athlete’s race guide and the race website.) There were 3 variables tha...

Beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Signed up for the 2024 race
I am so EXCITED for you! Message me if you have any questions!
I read a comment saying 2023 you will be there 😁😁 will we see you on the start line
I am so bummed....my plans changed this year but I am so hoping to come back in 2024...I have a couple friends that are running this year...have an awesome race!
hi!.... the 2019 edition was sooo cold... glad to see that you ran the latest and greatest!.. cheers from teh running world in Mexico
Chicago's crowd has a great energy, right?! Hope you can run it again
I work at a hospital in Illinois and my mom and I just signed up for this amazing cause. My mother has done some races but has never crossed the finish line so I’m hoping the next St. Jude race this upcoming December will be not only the first race that I’ve ever done, but that we can cross the finish line together. This video reflects the positivity of the onlookers and it’s making me so excited and motivated to do this race. Thank you for positing this video!

hope you find RunSpiration from my first timers
I'm getting Scited for training season now!
YAYYY! I can't wait! It's going to be so fun!
Running has truly changed my life. I hope to line up to do the comrades one day 😊
running is that gift that keeps on giving, right? I hope you get to run Comrades one day...I am hoping to go back in 2023 for Comrades #3...thanks for watching
Such a beautiful course - congrats :)
it's so beautiful I am going to go back next year!
Gorgeous scenery! Great job out there!
Thank you! It was a doozy but at least I will be more prepared for next year!
Wonderful. What a great spirit
every time I watch this I still get emotional...have you run Comrades before?
@@marathonwhisperer1679 I never heard of it until I discovered your video. I am from Switzerland, South Africa is far away.
@@danielwallnofer9273 I will capture more videos from next years race : ) BTW have you done the Jungfrau Marathon? That one is on my bucket list
@@marathonwhisperer1679 Never run myself. I'm there from time to time as a helper. It's only 1 hour away from my home. Incredible view but exhausting 😅. You should check out Transviamala, that's fantastic too!! I'm in the OC of the Bieler Running days, one of the oldest ultra marathons in the world.
@@danielwallnofer9273 Oh my gosh, Transviamala looks beautiful too and thank you for educating me on the Bieler Running day...I didn't know that was one of the oldest ultras in the world
Loved this so much! I keep wanting to do this race, since it’s only a couple of hours away, but the timing has never quite worked out. Definitely need to make it happen!
ooohhh I hope next year's race workouts out..it's Dec 3rd...that way I can finally meet you IRL!
Love this great job videoing. What did you use to video phone?
Thank you! I used my Iphone and imported video into adobe. Apparently they don't get along...I need to find an app that gets along better with iphone. iMovie isn't as powerful. Have you done NYC yet?
This was amazing! Love the sights of a big marathon like that! Also, crossed my first marathon finish line this weekend, and I wanna thank you for the inspiration! Your book really helped me through some tough training!
O M Geeee! CONGRATS and so glad my book helped for some of your journey...that finish line was pretty life igniting , right : )
I am still trying to find out if I like it 😆😆😆😆😆. I am running NYC next week Denise!! I can't wait. I just watched your other video on it. Congratulations on Chicago again!
Thanks, you are funny--and good advice
Thank you! I try to sneak in some fun on the run as a goal of mine : ) Hope you had a great race
Wow, sounds like you have ran a lot of marathons’. Looking forward to viewing more content. Great video!!
Glad you enjoyed my video Dr Andrew. I have quite a list of new marathons that I will be adding to my list...stay tuned for some race review videos.
This is too cute!! 😊
I get just a little excited talking about marathons : ) especially to future first timers : )
I wonder if the half I do in May will be like this
Hopefully just as beautiful but not as hilly : )
This race sounds amazing! I will have to run one of theirs one day. Great job, Coach!
You would love it Laura....it reminded me a of Big Sur...just no ocean but still so beautiful
Sounds and looks absolutely amazing! I hope they do it again in the future and that by then all this mask and distancing stuff won't be necessary!
I have to see if the Tucson marathon in Dec has similar views too and yes, I hope in the future we are mask free
Great work and glad you got to enjoy the beauty of Mt. Lemmon.
I am sold on Mt Lemmon and Ora Valley!
100% agree great race organization. Have done two. Just keep the quads stretched
I can't believe I was missing out on the beauty for so many years
Following you from the I Run Things podcast. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, Brian and right back at ya! Keep on inspiring!
Oh wow. Surrounded by men. I don't see a single woman... girlfriend you are so tough!!
Every time I watch this video it makes me want to go back...it's such a special race that is in a league of it's own...even though those hills make my quads angry...and yes it's a very small percentage of women in the race let alone non-South Africans...that's what makes being their so special : )
LOVE IT!
Thank you, Bernadette!
Miss you Coach and thank you so much for this!!
Miss you toooo! Can't wait until we are all together again
saw my teammate at 05:12
This is wonderful!! The Comrades is too long for me but I am excited to run the Cape Town Marathon next year!
When you are ready Comrades will be there for you!! Cape Town is going to amazingly beautiful! So excited for you
Ok
thanks for this video and congratulations! some of those signs are hilarious, and the mood seems to be exceptional.. I already signed up for Amsterdam next year, which is unfortunately 2 weeks before NYC (and 2 marathons in 2 weeks isn't really an option for me), but it surely has been put on my list..
Even with all of the marathons that I have run, those spectators still surprise me and stop my in my gymmers...NYC was my 116th marathon...if you spent the two weeks between getting massages, easy mileage, ice baths...you could do both...it just would be tough to "race" them...but you could "race" which everyone has better weather and then "run" the other...your body will be at it's training peak...so you just focus on recovery between : )
this was your 116th Marathon? That's amazing! I fully see your point, however my "problem" is that i'm a quite eager and competitive person. At each of my (so far few) events i told myself "I will go there just to enjoy the event and to take it easy" however in every single case I ended up racing. That just came with the atmosphere at those events. Having seen yours and other peoples videos about the NYC marathon it's clear to me, that i couldn't NOT race, as soon as i'm at the start. And the same with Amsterdam. I think i'll give it an extra year, but it's definitely one i will run.
@@cdh79 I think it's innate for us to be competitive with ourselves...we strive to improve...my problem was that I was expecting a PR every race and if I didn't get one, I would be so disappointed in myself. And when I did get a PR I would be proud of myself, but then that feeling would fleet and I would chase the next PR. Gratefully, surviving a near fatal car accident in 2009 brought me back to the 4th grade girl who loved running for the way it made her feel and the people and places it brought in to her life...it was a reset...actually my re-birthday and what led me to becoming a running coach. Every now and then I race a race but most of the time I run them for fun or I run them to help another one of my runners . If you come across a race were you didn't get all the training in that you wanted...run that race and just take it in...keep me posted : )
@@marathonwhisperer1679 first and foremost, i'm glad that you are still running after that accident! I can only imagine that such an event has to be humbling and makes someone see life in a different perspective (and makes someone become more appreciative with many aspects in life). Also, i believe you're absolutely spot on with the strive to self improvement.. that's what keeps most of the (active) people going. Given that i started running really regularly towards the beginning of this year, basically every event is a new PB. I even ran a PB today in training, when running HM distance.. ok, not too difficult after having run this distance now for the 3rd time so far. (Though I actually am very happy with a 1h51m time). Since i pretty much started running in my very early 40's I am under no false impression that i could be able to get the mileage in like some of my friends that have been running for 20+ years, so I know while it's currently still easy for me to jump from PBs by simply participating in events, this will rather sooner than later have to stop as well. I'll just enjoy it while it lasts, and I'm sure that at that point i will switch my mindset to "just enjoying the event". :) Much love and yes, i will let you know once I registered for NYC :)
@@cdh79 that is awesome that you only started running earlier this year and it has become part of your every day and wowza.... a sub 2 hour half is really fast and you are only getting started!!! BTW....not sure if you knew, but the Chicago marathon lottery is also open : )
Congratulations
Thank you, Leon! Did you run it too?
Yes. I am very enjoy in NYC marathon. I finish at 3:29, and this time is my best record.
@@亮践 OMG, Congrats!!! That is an amazing time on a tough course..there is nothing like that start line, right : )
what about your best record of marathon
My fastest marathon was 3:15 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
Marathon Whisperer you are so great. And this time is my next plan.
@@亮践 Ahh, thank you!!! I just want to pass on what I have found and keep finding in running with everyone whether they are a runner or future runner : )
Thank you for everything coach and for reminding us that even though we dont hit our goal time it doesnt mean we didnt give it our all. The crowds were amazing and I loved seeing you on the course...TWICE!! I can't wait to run Chicago again next year!!
YAYYY! I am so glad that I got to see you on the course...a few times and at the finish! SO, SO proud of you and excited you want to do it again and again and again : )
You are SO inspirational!!!❤This channel is awesome!
Thank YOU, Jessica! Helping runners and future runners is my favorite job : )
“Who is ready for the wall?” My hand shot straight up! lol. I totally agree that those tough miles in training served as “wall training miles” for me. I kept putting one foot in front of the other, said some choice words at it, mentally gave it some not nice gestures, but kept going.
YESSS! You are so spot on! We even have "walls" in our shorters races and some of our training runs...and we got through them....I honestly think that the wall is what keeps 99% of the population from signing up
Thank you so much for this!! I feel I have all the information I need to not stress!! Cant wait to give and get hugs....woooo!!!
all your hard work will pay off! Can't wait for your big dance with 26.2
SO helpful!!! Thank you! Never occured to me to run up Mt Roosevelt before the marathon.
So glad you found some tips....hope to see you race weekend!
Good luck Hunter. Running your first marathon is very daunting. When you feel like giving up (and we all do on our first) listen to your own advice, 'Just put one foot in front of the other'
