They make valves specifically to seal on a tank that arent expensive. Better route than making one.

Whenever possible avoid using MALE THREAD to Slip On PVC adapters. They always crack at the base of the thread. Very weak fittings. Its better to keep the pvc side female fittings. Even using brass nipples to make a male adapter is better. Save yourself a future leak, especially when you'd have to cut the entire end off the tank to replace the fitting
