One Reason Why Your Deck Stain Stripper Is Not Working
Before you try to remove the old stain from a deck, it is imperative that you clean the deck first. If you do not, the stripper will not be able to penetrate the mold, mildew and dirt, and therefore, will not be effective.

      Best case scenario is to never caulk these areas. If your transition between the floor and bottom of the base or base shoe looks bad and you don’t like the idea of caulk, then the only solution is to replace the base or base shoe.

    I have a question painters came in and painted my daughters room changed it from a gray. I think it was just a basic paint and she’s got a really expensive paint and I don’t know if they put a primer on it because it’s a one coat guaranteed well it didn’t guaranteed OK. I don’t think the prep done correctly. If there was flat spots were they patched and didn’t texture so I went in and I sanded down. I ended up standing down 90% of a room and putting touch on it and sending it down, do I need to put a primer but a primer on the wall so all the walls come out the same color

    • @DaveMartin
      @DaveMartin 3 місяці тому

      It depends on a lot of factors, but normally, around 1 to 2 hours. If you put it on thick (a good thing), if it's cold, then it could take longer. With this specific product, you'll know when it's dry because it will be completely clear and not milky looking. Make sure the edges are also not milky looking!

      @@rawcredentials In my experience, most people don't clean their kitchen ceilings. If you do wind up getting some spaghetti sauce up there, you can just do a quick wipe-down, then touch it up with paint ;-). Overall, I just think flat looks better in the kitchen. Thanks for the question and the response. Best, Dave

  • @monkeyface6139

    Thankfully someone talking sense. I've been a decorator for over 40 years and when I see DIY 'enthusiasts ' telling people to prime when changing colours...aaaargh ?!?! You prime bare wood or bare plaster...the FIRST coat on anything that's not been painted before. That's it. You can swap the word 'enthusiast' for 'crackpot ' if you want.

    Great video thanks. I was wondering on large windows have you ever painted the edge with liquid mask, then filled the centre with std masking film taped over the inner edge of the liquid mask ?

    • @DaveMartin
      @DaveMartin 4 місяці тому

      I have, just make sure the tape sticks to the Liquid Mask. I wound up using masking tape, but make sure you don't put the masking tape on any glass (tape to the Liquid Mask itself) as it may be hard to remove from the glass especially if exposed to sunlight. I used masking tape as I found that using safe release tape/blue cloth did not adhere well to the Liquid Mask. Thanks!

    This makes a lot of sense to me and has also been my experience, although limited. However, how do you keep a wet edge while rolling a 20-foot by 20-foot ceiling? I can't get across and back in time before the paint starts drying and leaves low angle light roller marks. I do all the cut in and 4" roller the edges all wet and let it completely dry before rolling the main area, this isn't a problem with two coats and doesn't show. However, when I go to roll the ceiling area, I can not get across even the shortest side in a 4-foot roll length in time before it starts drying. Do you do it in sections while feathering the edges, letting it completely dry and then doing multiple coats to even the color? I am at a loss. What I have been doing generally looks great except in extreme light situations, which is my concern. Thank You for any input. Cheers

    • @DaveMartin
      @DaveMartin 4 місяці тому

      With low and zero VOC paints, this is almost impossible. You can only move as fast as you can; you may not get rid of all lap marks, the idea here is just to make them much less noticeable. This is why I always try to use a dead flat paint, when applicable. If you are really worried about it, apply the paint in a very low temperature. If you can keep the place at about 50 degrees, apply the paint, then turn up the heat and run a fan after you are done, it allows for more open time as the paint will not dry as fast. In warm weather scenarios, it is almost impossible to keep the paint from drying too fast. I have not had great success with an extending agent; you just need to move really fast, which still may not completely solve the problem. Don't use a fan, that actually speeds up your dry time (airflow is key to helping paint dry). Finally, using a really great paint makes a world of difference. It still may dry fast, but it will dry more evenly with less noticeable lap lines. Always apply two coats, that also makes a difference. Thanks!
