Hillclimbs, Single Track, and CRASHES | Black Hills Trip Day 2
Hey all, thanks for tuning into my South Dakota Trip. This is going to be a 3 part series where I document our whole journey. I went with 4 buddies and I was riding my 2006 DRZ400SM, one on a WR250R, another on a WR250X, and the last on a Beta 390 RS. It was an awesome trip and I really wanna go back again. This place is dual sport paradise.
This is day 2. We rode lots of insane, steep hill climbs, single track, ATV Trails, double track, mud, rocks, just a variety of everything including power lines. What a blast this day was and it included lots of carnage as well. Hope y'all enjoy!

Dropped my bike last week on a narrow two track full of lava rock without guards as they haven't come in yet. Bike landed on a bowling ball sized rock, cracked the right fairing, scratched/nicked up the engine in a couple of places, and was lucky didn't hit water/pump or hoses. In Arizona, especially Northern AZ, we have a lot of rock gardens. If you stay mostly on Forest Service roads, you probably don't need them, but I always seem top be sucked in by jeep/two track trails we have around here. 😅

MIne also said 4 holes in the plate, but that didn't make sense to me. I installed it with two holes (to try before making any changes), and 20W oil. RT said 15W. Even at 2 holes and 20W oil it was UNDERdampened in compression, but rebound was perfect. I believe it also said 3 revolutions of preload on the spring, and middle spring strength. I found an OEM set for half price so put them on and pleased I did, wasn't worried about the radiator really ,just wanted to protect the plastics, mate didn't have them and his bike is badly scratched now, I certainly recommend case savers though as the water pump is vulnerable as is the clutch casing etc, I just look at my dirtbike without bars and think the T7 would be just as beat up without bars, plus I've destroyed a radiator on my dirtbike.

The only difference between you and me is the boot size. I have a 13 all other numbers are a match. The only bike I ever enjoyed long term riding is the 1250GS Adventure with a tall rally seat and lowered pegs. The bike is so tall that the guys at the dealer ship only pull it when it is in for service lol. There a few no-go bikes for me, like the XR650l the Africa Twin, the KTM1290R or anything sport bike or Harley Davidson. Best bikes out of the box for tall riders are the Tiger 1200 with Off Rod Pegs, The KLR650 Gen3 and the Tenere 700. None of these need really anything to just ride them. I really want a DR650 but I am afraid there is nothing I can do to make it fit. So I might end up on a KLR650 even it has 80lbs more on the hips. For tight trails I ride a KLX230R and it didn't many mods to have fun on it :)

Before going through any of this or drilling out and removing the ignition try one of your unused keys if you have one. It worked for me. I just experienced the same problem the last 2 days; both times away from home. Initially, I thought it was because the steering wheel had locked in an odd way but the 2nd time I was leaving a party and it would not turn so I did a google and bam this is what I got. I finally got the key to turn and hauled ass home. I got home and it happened again. Today, I pulled out one of my other ignition keys that have never been used and compared it to the used key and noticed the used key is badly worn. I used one of the unused keys and bam the truck started. I hope it was just a worn key and not the ignition (so far it's promising). If I have to I will remove and replace the ignition. I will update if things changes. I will keep this video in the vault.
