I rented a Van Rysel road bike from Decathlon - Ep. 1 Lago d'Iseo, Italy
I flew across the world to Italy, and had some time to rent a bike to cycle around the northern part of Brescia, Italy. I found @decathlonIT had the most reasonable prices at $30 CAD/day for an aluminum road bike - EDR AF 105 from @vanryselcycling . Follow along my journey as I venture into the beautiful landscape and roads.

I tried cycling to work for a year - and this is what happened

I cycled to work for the past year. Mostly for health and fitness, while also saving some money by cycling. I've learned a lot, had fun, went through some rough roads, but all in all I've really enjoyed being on two wheels to commute. It definitely beats taking the TTC (public transit in Toronto)! I hope this helps to motivate others to start cycling to work. #cycling #cyclinglife #triathlonlif...

I cycled to work for 7 years. The distance to my office was 9 miles. Fortunately, going to work meant going downhill mostly so I wasn’t too sweaty when I got to work. I had a cabinet in the warehouse where I had stashed my street clothes and shoes and did a quick change. But going home was the hard part, especially after a long day. But I just had to do it to go home, going mostly uphill with 1500 feet elevation gain. Total round trip time took 90 minutes. I averaged 4000 miles a year those years. I retired 10 years ago but still ride 3000 miles a year.
@@warrenchu6319 wow that’s some crazy elevation gain 😱 you must’ve become a strong cyclist after all that climbing!
What is that cool tyre inflating device at 5:52?
@@manwithnoname6580 it’s a Cycplus AS2 Pro Max mini pump! Feel free to use my discount code henrychungfitness for a discount 👌
Not bike related, but a game changer anyway. I see you had an induction stove which is even better, so preheat a frying pan, put the slices in and when the bottom starts getting crispy again, splash a little bit of water inside the pan and cover with a lid. The water will instantly turn into steam which will melt the cheese, while giving you a crispy crust and perfectly warm toppings to munch on. From preheating a pan to eating leftover pizza that tastes like it's fresh, it will take you around 2-3 minutes. It's slower than heating it in the microwave, but I'd rather lose that little bit of extra time than to eat soggy pizza, especially while in Italy. Clean up (if the pizza isn't too greasy, which can spill into the pan and burn) is just running the pan and the lid under hot water, dry them with a clean dishcloth or paper towels and you're good to go. You'll never eat leftover pizza the same way again.
@@Stuntman175 wow! Thanks for the tip and I wish I’d known that before 😱 I might have to travel back to Italy and get some leftover pizza to try it again
If you ride in the rain, do not get rim brakes. You'll have much worse stopping
@@damu6678 agreed especially with carbon wheels!
This is truly a great short and very useful
@@CodyR212 thank you 🙏
You should get a longer compression plug. With the spacers you have underneath your stem, that plug should sit 1/2 inch below the top bearing in your head tube just to be on the safe side. Also, I personally recommend a 5mm spacer on top of the stem. Just some food for thought. Ride safe!
@@dwaynepedals thanks for the recommendation! I’ve had a much longer compression plug as you mentioned for a while now and it’s been solid so far. For the 5mm spacer on top, what would you recommend that for?
I used to commute. My route was around 16Km (10 miles), and I could NEVER get to work without being sweaty, regardless of my pace. Winter cycling... Nope. I'm from the south in the US, and I don't do cold. Call me a wimp. I don't care.
@@gearhead366 sweat is inevitable lol. That’s where a fresh change of clothes comes in handy as well as the bathroom sink 😂
I wish my area didnt have 300 days of rain a year, otherwise I woulda cycled daily to work

Wow! Same deodorant! And I'm in Japan! A lot of what you say is the same for me (but I don' t race). I've been cycle-commuting for many years and as you say it is a way of life, so much better and energizing than a train ride. Not stress free but WAY better. Keep spinning brother! (PS I don't envy your winters!)
@@eilrach299 I didn’t know they had old spice in Japan! Definitely way better. Thanks for watching 🤙
Buy a used bike, and call it your winter bike. That's what I do and several of my coolueges do here in Oslo, Norway. I Feels safer biking with metal studs than to walk without studs on my shoes. 18km is a bit far for winter riding though incase something happens.
@@Warinx perhaps it’s time for me to get a gravel or fat bike 🤔
I bought this bike last year. I was looking for a lightish bike, with a good gear set, easy to maintain at a friendly price. This bike hit all points. I do 3-4 rides per week between 40 and 100 km per ride. While not a high performance bike, this bike's performance far exceeds its price tag. I can keep up to those that have clearly over spent. Realistically the bike is an in between an endurance and racer. Most importantly it meets my needs. I love it and no intention of upgrading for one less kg and an extra $4000.
@@Tully-cy7yc it’s an awesome bike and I bet with a set of carbon wheels it will completely change the ride 🤙

On year 4 of bike commute most of the year (don’t like the snow and cold). I am lucky to have changing room and shower available at the office and a place to store my gear and change of clothes. As many others have said, I really need the commute home to relax and process the day. So on top of the health benefits, I am a lot more present with the family and lot less grumpy.

Hows the bottom bracket now is the bearing still good?
The bottom bracket is still doing well and still smooth 👍
I've been commuting by bike in all seasons for three years now. I live in Finland and we get our fair share of snow, slush, ice and road salt. In the winter I commute on my hardtail mountain bike set up with spiked tires. I wipe the chain dry when I get to work and I try to keep on top of maintenance but honestly it's not too bad. What I really like about cycling to work is how sharp it keeps my bike handling skills. Also the fitness/training thing comes almost like an added bonus and I don't have to force it into my weekly schedule as much.
@@wheeliegeezer a mountain bike with spiked tires sounds like a blast in the winter! Ride on and ride safe 👍
Isn’t there a town in Finland that has the highest bikability score in the world? Like Kuopio or Oulu?

Hi , I walked to work more then 15 years. I tried out a bus, but it was stuffed up and not reliable in time. So after a few days bus riding trouble, I decided to try out walking. In Germany we have decent footpathes and cycling lanes separated from streets and roads . That makes things a lot easier. I think there is a big difference between the morning way to work, and the evening way home. In the morning I took the shortest and always the same way to my work. 4 km that was about 45 min of walking. And this time schedule was very precise and stable. Also very weather resistent. Going home was the creative part. I took detours and pathes I never walked before. I always looked ahead with joy to this walking part. Sweating is usually a big problem for me. But it was not a big problem on my way to work, because I came to work always 15 minutes early. That gave me enough time to take a complete cold water washing and to change my sweaty clothes. I took my meals for the day with me, and I did not noticed a big difference in hunger between work days and not work days. But not work days are sport days fore me. So maybe that explains the difference to your case. I like bike riding a lot and I ride about 5000 km per year for fun. But those 5 km were to short for me to move my bike in order to get warm and to get a nice workout. Fast walking felt a lot better. Greetings from upper franconia in Germany. By the way , I really like your channel. Interesting and reliable content.
Walking/running is another great way to explore the city and surroundings. Good job on doing it consistently and finding joy in it too! Thank you for watching and enjoy your workouts outdoors 👍
I've been cycling to work for a year and a half and it's the best thing I've done (despite the 2 crashes and 1 knockdown by a car so far). I've saved at least £80 a month on petrol, my temperament and irritability has improved, lost a lot of weight and I'm significantly fitter than I have ever been. Being in Scotland, the weather and roads are terrible, but if you wrap up and keep your eyes peeled it's easy. Recommend!
Sounds like a hectic commute for you on the roads, but glad to hear you're still enjoying it! Ride on and ride safe 👍
And you haven't changed jobs to somewhere that has shower facilities?
Nope! Embrace the sweat because I'll sweat after work anyways 😅
Whats the long cycling clothes you are rocking? I’m searching for something that isn’t Lycra but still not baggy
@@jacobpedersen2368 there are good cycling gear from the likes of Santic and Darevie jackets that I’m wearing, and as for pants I wear warm jogger pants or hiking pants 👌
I started cycling all year long in 1997 in Montreal where the winters (snow fall) are crazy. It's not fun cycling in winter but it was my only preference to commute because I HATE public transportation. Once I moved to Toronto and discovered the comparatively milder winters it's been a bit easier commuting in winter. So, I empathize with your observations. On the other hand, now that the pandemic turned my job into remote work, I've had to improvise my fitness routine. I miss it... during the summer. But, I still commute by bike to run errands or go to events. Nice video. Thanks for sharing. Hope you continue riding year long and have pleasant experiences.
