Shadow Morton, born George Morton, was renowned for his work in the 1960s, a pivotal era in music history. His contributions to the sound and production of numerous iconic acts have cemented his legacy as one of the most influential figures in pop music.
Shadow Morton’s Impactful Career:
Morton’s career began in the early 1960s, but it was his work with The Shangri-Las that truly defined his legacy. As the producer behind the group, Morton crafted some of the most memorable songs of the decade, including hits like “Leader of the Pack,” “Remember (Walking in the Sand),” and “Give Him a Big Kiss.” His production style was characterized by dramatic storytelling, lush arrangements, and a flair for the theatrical, which helped to shape the girl group sound and made The Shangri-Las household names.
Morton didn’t stop with The Shangri-Las. He went on to work with a variety of influential artists, each time bringing his unique vision and creativity to the forefront. His collaborations included:
The New York Dolls: Morton’s involvement with the pioneering glam rock band helped to shape their early sound, blending elements of rock ‘n’ roll with a bold, flamboyant aesthetic.
The Shangri-Las' Successors: He continued to influence the girl group genre by working with other emerging acts and shaping their sound with his signature touch.
The Jaynetts: Morton produced hits for this doo-wop group, further showcasing his versatility across different genres and styles.
Various Solo Artists: Throughout his career, Morton also worked with numerous solo artists, each time bringing his distinctive production techniques to their music.
Shadow Morton’s production was often marked by its rich, layered sound and a knack for creating atmospheric and emotionally charged recordings. His innovative use of studio effects and dramatic flair not only defined his work but also influenced future generations of producers and musicians.
In this interview, Morton shares anecdotes from his illustrious career, discusses his creative process, and reflects on the changing landscape of the music industry. Whether you’re a fan of 60s pop, a budding music producer, or just curious about the behind-the-scenes of iconic hits, this interview offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of one of music’s most influential producers.

Phil Spector Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Speech!!!! 1989 (Audio Only)
Переглядів 2,3 тис.Рік тому
What the Hall of Fame folks saw was the man who built the Wall of Sound looking pretty plastered himself. Spector hit the stage bopping madly to the strains of the Ronettes’ “Be My Baby,” flanked by three beefy bodyguards who practically elbowed Tina out of the way. He mumbled a few incoherent words about George Bush and the presidential inauguration, and then his bodyguards carried him away ag...

his Dad his leader, mentor, left him alone deserted. Such a brilliant mind processes deeper than many . Spector was wounded grievously at the age of boyhood to manhood as many others . By this he lost his connection to his Spirit as the man he actually was. He never really understood that .

It's interesting how he says that the album was issued in '63 and then never again. It was indeed issued in 1963 but didn't sell because of the depression surrounding the JFK assassination. This first pressing of the album is easily identified by its light blue label with black print. However Phil's record label, that he was in charge of, Philles, reissued the album for Christmas 1964, and it's sold fairly well. This is the pressing, with a yellow and red label, that most people have. It was then out of print until it's 1972 reissue on the Apple records label.

Forget about this lunatic I want to hear his children’s interview. He forced them to do some sick stuff. I have no respect for Ronnie leaving those kids behind knowing how sick he was. I don’t care if they weren’t her biological kids. I wouldn’t leave my dog with that guy. Phil was highly abusive and deranged. Those deals with devil aren’t free. So at 18 he was selling papers and at 21 wrote his first hit record. Pay attention. Every one of these celebrities, moguls has a Cinderella story that’s beyond believable. Go read weird happening in the canyon if you want the truth instead of fairy tales.
