The first wedding I shot was a small gathering about 5 years ago for a couple friends of mine. They had 0 expectations and simply wanted someone to document the day, and being my first wedding it was a great first kick at the can. Ended up using a full-frame and aps-c duo, with a 35mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.8 combo. It worked really well because I could use the 35mm on the full frame for the wides/mediums, and the 85mm on the aps-c for ~136mm full-frame equivalent to get the tighter shots. If there was a point where things were moving a bit slower and I had time to swap lenses, then I would effectively achieve ~56mm and 85mm for a bit of visual variety before switching back. I definitely agree with the recommendation of a 35mm in your kit, or if you're considering shelling out for a 24-70, consider the 35-150 f/2-2.8 as a great all arounder (its on my wishlist).

That sounds like a cool way to do it 👍🏼 We have the 35-150mm for video and it’s a great lens. Have used it a couple times for photos and it’s a pretty nifty lens, although becomes a little front heavy.

I am going shoot events placing 3-5 lenses in my backpack. They are 16-35/2.8; 35/1.2; 50/1.2; 85/1.4 and 135/2.8. Sometimes 70-200/2.8 (depends on location). All are the Canon EF full frame, but camera is RF full-frame.

If it's available for your body, the Tamron 35-150 f/2-2.8 is a great all arounder. Prime like apertures at the wide end, and up to a 150 is near enough to a 180/200 for large variety of situations.

I would add a couple of things to this.I use my Canon digital SLR's with an on camera flash that tilts and swivels.I bounce light off the ceiling or sidways off a wall to avoid harsh shadows being thrown on the wall behind your subject. Also my camera has a flash exposure compensation setting. This made all the difference for me when I was trying to get it right. cheers Geoff
