Exploration and adventure is mindset. It is more than the summit of K2, or hiking the entire Appalachian Trail. And adventure doesn’t have to be reserved for that five-day vacation that accrues once a year. We don’t have to live in Patagonia to have that #adventurelifestyle. Exploration starts with an attitude.
This channel is focused on exploration and adventure. It features "backyard adventures", travel and gear that helps us explore.

Kayaking Tour with Kayak Amelia

We used Kayak Amelia to tour the area around Little Talbot and Big Talbot Island.
…the song “Amos Moses” keeps playing in my head. What are you wearing to repel horseflies & deerflies? This looks much like Brooker Creek off Lake Tarpon used to.
I canoed Brooker Creek years ago before EL Woodlands got totally developed. It was reduced to a ditch by the time you paddled & poled to the culvert at the golf course. There were orchids, ferns, & air plants thick in the trees. Always a few gators & softshell turtles hanging out. Is it navigable to the Preserve now?
Thinking of kayaking here any recommendations? From what I hear there are gators, is there anything else to be concerned about?
No real concerns other than drunk boaters. Gators never bother you. I never saw one while we were there. It’s a beautiful beautiful lake. Have fun!
Yes, gators and raw sewage.
Should one be worried about alligators? 12:40
I see gators from time to time in Florida but the are just chillin' on the bank. They don't bother you. It's always a pleasure to see one.
Great
I'm a Floridian who understands why you can't swim in the springs anymore. Tourists and the hordes of people that have come here in the last few years have no respect for our Rivers. Mooring and anchoring destroying trees, swimming and disturbing the bottom of the river where Grass Grows, the list goes on. Weeki Wachee has been almost destroyed because of the hordes of people that want to have their fun because they believe it's their right. Like I said there is no respect for nature when fun is on the agenda
I know all about a "hot Florida summer day"... FOR SURE!!! ...and how refreshing that spring-water is, on a, "hot Florida summer day"... Awesome video. Thanks for sharing!!! ...and safe travels
I didn't see any houses that you guys were looking at
What was the water level reading when you went? I’m trying to get an idea of what it will look like when me and a buddy go
The silver river is browning because in a few more yards you would have merged into the Ocklawaha river. It is essentially the opposite of the silver river. It reminds me of the Louisiana bayou with it's cypress knees and tannic water. You should try it next time for a completely different experience.
How far from the kp hole is where the ladder is? Where the guy jumped in the water.
I’d say at least 4 miles
Is it on the way down the river from kp hole or going up the river?
The river by the boat ramp is called Brooker Creek and it indeed turns into a stream after McMullen Booth rd and winds up into the Brooker Creek Reserve conservatory. Thanks for the video!
Awesome vid sir! I learned a lot by watching your contents. Your new friend 👍👍
Wow! Florida really is beautiful! Thanks for making this video!
Really enjoyed this, looks like a wonderful day. The voice over worked well. Looks like you got some good exercise as well. I assume you take water/snacks?
Yes, I always bring a water bottle and some food.
Well, I did it! Not at your pace. 😳 I got in the water at 10:30, I paddled 5 hours and 26 minutes and did a round trip of 10.23 miles. I was so close to the bridge but my arm (old injury from mountain biking) started to really ache and I was getting short in water so I caved. It was so beautiful. No monkeys, but I saw a couple of manatees, lots of turtles and fish and an alligator crossing the river. Thanks for the video and the information about the area and what to expect.
Well done dude! Yeah, definitely one of my favorite rivers to paddle. Glad you enjoyed it. What kind of kayak are you paddling?
As I was thinking about how long I was on the river, I wanted to add, I did stop at a boat/kayak ramp (I think you mentioned this in your video) and took a break for about 40 minutes so I wasn’t quite as slow as it seemed but still not fast. Oh and I’m a dudette. is that a word? Oh well, anyway, didn’t want to misrepresent myself. So my kayak is a Oru foldable kayak. I looked at a lot of different kayaks to try to find the lightest one because I am strong but little, as in 5’2”, 110lbs and I have an SUV so the idea of me getting a kayak in the roof rack easily was daunting. So even though the Oru was a higher price range than I wanted, I bit the bullet and have been very happy with my purchase. I can put it in the back of my SUV and it usually takes me about 10 minutes to snap it together and be on the water. It is the Bay ST, which is 12’3” and weighs 26lbs. I will say there are times when I think I wish I could have a hard shell kayak for ease of getting in and out of the water faster (no assembly or disassembly) and the fragility of the Oru as far as sharp edges and rocks. But so far, I bought it last year, I have no other complaints. I might buy a hard shell, if I see one that is priced right, just to have it and also if I have someone who wants to go with me who doesn’t own a kayak, I can provide that for them.
The Oru kayaks look very intriguing. Eventually I would love to try one and compare it to a traditional kayak. Definitely solves a lot of transportation issues. Still liking it?
Yes. I still like it. As I haven’t had a whole lot of experience with “regular” kayaks I don’t have a lot to compare it to. I would be willing to let you test drive mine and give me your opinion of comparison.
Thank you. I’ll let you know if I get down that way soon.
Nice video! You have a great cadence to your paddling. I am going to Silver River tomorrow. I want to launch out at Ray Wayside because of what you said about paddling upstream first and cruise back. I hope my plan works out. Debating about what time is best to arrive to get in the water before it gets crowded. Any advice?
I always look to get out early in the morning. I don’t think it will be too crowded on Friday but the morning would guarantee that there will be less people on the river. Besides, I always love paddling when the sun is closer to the horizon so I get more shade. Let me know how it goes!
I just had someone on Facebook say later in the day is better because all the kayakers coming down the river will be gone by then. I guess I’ll figure out a plan by morning and I will give you an update of how it went. Thanks.
I stayed at woods ferry one time there was only 2 other people a couple of pavilions down from us it was quite nice.
My place is just a mile back up river from Woods Ferry. I offer Off Grid camping there. I’ll share a link of you are interested.
Actually, yeah, send me some info. Send me a DM on Instagram: @clintg37
Great video, enjoyed the river views and commentary. Great job on the flips👏
What is the make of your kayak?
Perception Triumph 13 (actually have one for sale).
Hi, I’m new to kayaking. What map/app do you use?
I use Google maps to find places and I use Strava to track my adventures.
We just paddled the springs last month. We were gonna go all the way to Ray Wayside but the line to put in at the springs was so long and crazy we didn't get on the water till late. It was still a great paddle doing Fort King and the spring head. Only the river traffic was horrendous and it was a Wednesday in February. I have the video posted on my channel. Great video Sir!
I've been planning on doing the Suwannee myself and enjoy watching how others handle it. Good video! What was the water level? Low enough for beaches I see.
I always love watching kayaking video with in this area.. it’s so clean, clear, and blue!
If it's anything like here in the panhandle, there's a good chance those pontoon boats weren't even registered to Florida... Tourists love hauling their boats down to come exploit our resources with no care about the damage because they're on vacation.
Nice video! The Silver River is one of my favorites as well! Looks like you had some great weather for paddling!
Great video! If you keep the spare one out of the sun it will appreciate like real estate.
How is the stability on the Tempest? I recently upgraded from a Tsunami 140 to an Eddyline Fathom--and while it is pushing my skill development, it is NOT a "relaxing" paddle. Curious about the Tempest.
The Tempest is not as stable as the Tsunami but it does go on edge better. It's also easier to roll. With the Tsunami, when coming back up from a roll, there is a bit of a hesitation point and takes slightly more effort with the hip snap. The Tempest is slightly faster.
@@everydayexplorer5228 thanks! With the Fathom, the defined V bottom and sharp chines make it a balancing act. Combine that with a high volume deck and it becomes a bit of a bobber at my 170lbs. There is no question that the WS Phase 3 and Phase 3 Pro are the most comfortable seats in the business!
Exactly the video I was looking for. Looking at putting in at Worthington Springs and paddle down to the Suwannee and camp along the way. Anyone got any suggestions on places to camp. Thanks for the video!! Edit: I have transport from river sink to river rise
I would put in around High Springs and go down to the Suwanee. If you put in at Worthington Springs you're going to run into too many trees and obstacles. Also the river goes underground for 3 miles at O'leno State Park, so you would have to somehow find a way to portage which I don't really think. Is that feasible.
Nice video, my friend! Lovely kayaking! Best way to relax, haveing some whater adventure isn't it? 😉 The nature Is amazing, too.. Enjoyed watching a lot! Cheers from Russia, amigo , and how about visiting my channel as well? I've got something to share about floating, camping, and other! Anyway, best wishes in all your plans and beginnings! Best regards, Yuriy!
We were there a week ago absolutely beautiful
this was amazing!!
What kind of kayaks are these? They look like just what I want to buy.
Perception Triumph 13. For some reason Perception stopped distributing these in the United States. I like them because they are fairly fast for a sit on top. But I find myself paddling my touring kayak most often because of how fast it is. A good quality brand that's not crazy expensive is wilderness systems. They make some longer and faster sit on top kayaks.
Digging your narriration on this one 🤠🤙
Suwannee river is a great place to yak!! Have yet to camp on that river yet but would love too!! Not many flat accessible areas to camp out there
Hahahah this is our stomping grounds!!
Thank you for this video. I was recently plotting out more of the Santa Fe. We are trying to expand our kayaking range. I am used to kayaking River Rise and south to 47 bridge. The river is oddly high. I'd be curious what this stretch looks like on normal conditions. Definitely need to bring my GPS for this trek with all the off-shoots. This part of the river isn't for the average person. I'll definitely have to check this out. Your video was perfect timing for my research. Hope to see you on the rivers.
Thats normally where we put in as well. He put in at 129 bridge I believe
I have used my Garmin bike computer for navigation on kayak trips... I just draw a freehand route along wherever I'm going and save the route. I use one of the rubber band style mounts that comes with the head unit and mount it into the middle of my paddle. Works pretty good because everything looks so much different on Google Earth than in person, so the navigation assist definitely helps.
i don't know why you would pay them to take you to the KP hole, you go there yourself with your own kayak and only pay 6 bucks, and go back there, you still have to go upstream and back down is fast.
That blue Gheenoe at the beginning was pretty sweet. Exactly the type of boat for getting deep into the backwoods.
Nice video... Another thing to keep in mind is tidal swings are huge around Jax... Gotta watch not to get left standard on a mud flat...
Did that run back in 07. Would recommend to anyone.
One question I've gone numerous time but not sure I've seen Naked, is it off the same run that Blue is? I def wanna see that bad boy! TY in advance!
He's at Lily Springs which is on the left a little past Poe Springs.
@@ClintGibbs No I'm talking about Naked which is off Blue Springs run, and I found it. It is "under restoration" and you cannot enter there anymore right now. The river was sooooooooo high, could hardly make out any of the pretty springs. Still a nice day, just a letdown.
@@FloridaMan213 lol... I thought you were talking about Naked Ed! Yeah, the river is definitely high right now.
@@ClintGibbs LMAOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! " I def wanna see that bad boy!" This is pure gold!
@@FloridaMan213 it's way better now that they don't allow swimming. would be nice if you could still dive it but people ruin everything
I miss it down there so much. Im looking for a place to buy in the Crystal River/Homosassa areas. Thank you for sharing
Why did you pay for a shuttle? I didn't detect any strong current or whitewater. Just paddle up and back.

I think the campground was deserted, I think I would've grabbed a screen house.
They were still taking reservations at the time this video was taken. If the Sleeping Platforms were reserved and he took one, he would only be asked to leave when the people who reserved it showed up. They would notify a camp host and the host would call the office and a Ranger would have to go deal with the situation.
Love this! How hard is kayaking on your shoulders? I’m asking because I have a bad shoulder but am dying to take up the hobby.
Shoulder range of motion is very little when kayaking so I would think it would be fine. Probably would even strengthen your shoulder. The nice thing about kayaking down river like this is if you get tired you can pretty much float. Or you can paddle faster to make the run faster.
