A very under rated guitarist. There was a survey years ago he didn't even make it in the top 100. That's crazy. He learned from the greatest guitar player of all times. Jimmie Hendricks was a big influence on him. You can tell by his sound. Ernie just made it more funkier for the sound of the music that the Isley was putting down. My favorite guitarist . Besides the king Hendricks.
Folks just don't know about this absolutely formidable guitarist. The hip hop crowd only uses a loop. w/very little verse to verse difference while the vocalist talks a lotta shi^. It's also a crossover cultural thing. What do the American White Gen X ers need with the rich Isley Brothers compilation when they got Shon Mendez and Ed Sheering? I was there at ground zero for the birth of hair bands, Chuck Berry, Cream, The Beatles, The Temptations, The Supremes, The Jackson 5, Dave Clark 5, The Monkeys and more. The list goes on and on. IMHO, American Gen X and Millennials are primarily interested in right now, and shaping it with contemporary interest. The Isleys and Ernie are cultural artistic history. Unfortunately not right now. Like you said it's a damn shame in America's face.
That Isley sound is awesome! Thank you Ernie and Chris Jasper and all the other Isley Brothers for sharing your gift with the whole world and I will definitely have the most love and respect for you all! God Bless you Ernie and thanks again.
I was in the audience that night Ernie Isley and the band were incredible Elektra Records did not know what to do with this Project band even then it spoke volumes about the Business One of the Isley Brothers couldn't get VB the Support that the so deserved
And the first song Elektra released as a single (the title track, 'High Wire') was, at least for me, the weakest track on the record. It's a tragedy that this was his only solo record...

When you hear Ron's sweet tenor lead vocal and Ernie's classic guitar, you know it's the Isley Brothers. Ernie does a great solo job on this.
