The 1st time I saw Crass live was in a wee community centre in my home city in 1979 when I was a wee lad of 12. I somehow managed to 'borrow' one of their banners at that gig. Still don't know how I got away with it as I was just a few feet away from the band onstage. It was taped to an amp cabinet at the side of the stage close to the exit. During their set I noticed it was just dangling by one piece of tape so made my way over, gave it a yank, quickly rolled it up, stuffed it under my jacket, ran outside, stashed it behind a bin up a lane then went back in for the rest of the gig. It hung on my bedroom wall for a few years until I moved house and stashed it in my folks attic along with lots of other, mainly punk, signed posters and record covers, plectrums, drumsticks etc. I also got one of Pennys drumsticks at the same gig! Then, 40 years later, I found a Crass Records group on the Book of Faces and posted a photo of it. Big mistake! Someone Penny knew saw it and passed it on to him, telling him he found the missing banner. I had no idea that 'the missing banner' was even a thing. To say he wasn't happy would be an understatement. I got a message from him saying 'That is the banner that went missing in Scotland in '79. You thieving bastard! Shove it up your arse! Regards, Penny xx. I couldn't believe he actually remembered where it 'went missing ' after 40 years. I'm not proud of the fact I snifled it but I was a wee kid and didn't really think it was any worse than swiping a poster off a wall at a gig. I got a lot of stick from quite a few commenters on the thread, then the same people would Messenger me offering to buy it. Hypocrites! It's just a stencilled bedsheet FFS!

Great interview. I had a ticket for The Parish, Huddersfield gig 12th April 2022 but unfortunately tested positive for you know what on the 11th....so,no gig for me (but my brother and a couple of mates went,and said it was FANTASTIC ! ). Hopefully next time I'll make it.
