Should you visit this HIDDEN valley in the Lakes?

Another two Wainwrights bagged on this walk, Grey Crag and Tarn Crag. We arrived a lot later than expected due to a crash on the M6. This was an area of the Lakes I never would have visited, or even known about, if I wasn't ticking off Wainwrights. Drone footage was at a minimum due to weather conditions. Believe it or not, this was July!!!!

Nice to see you back in a proper Lakeland summer. It's pronounced S'conny. As in "what's that big empty building in the middle of Skem?" "S'Conny tha lar". I've taken you fishing, it is your bag. You've just forgotten.

AMazes me more people haven't noticed how much the sun us being blocked, down here in Devon/Cornwall we've had perhaps 5 full sun days, this year! Every day is white sky, just a blanket of white with a dense dark grey layer above, who knows what's happening above that

A days hiking a remember well not for the views but for the laughs and also descending down the decent of death! I remember having to be dragged out of one of those peat bogs as I could not get out but despite awful weather, a good days hiking. I did my first ever wild camp at Angle Tarn about 6 years ago and a got a perfect sunrise, fingers crossed you get the same, cheers Alan

Ah Rydal Caves, the Benidorm of the fells. Kim and Eddie have both fallen in the water there. I’m talking, lie-down under the water job. I can confirm the absence of fish in the water due it it being devoid of plant life. The slate area in the left just before you approach the entrance is where lots of people build some miniature cairns. Some really creative. Cathedral Caves is worth a visit, family friendly and absolutely stunning.

Fairfeild, High Pike and Low Pike and into Ambleside is the end of the first 30miles of the Lakes in a Day 50 ultra marathon (starts in Calderbeck and finishes in Cartmel). It’s quite a significant bit on the route as it marks the “final descent”. By that point, I’m normally questioning my life choices and not paying attention to much outside my footprint. It marks the last bit of the fells before the “easy” 20 miles around Windermere and into Cartmel. Nice to revisit it, thank you.
