See 'The Vision of St Jerome' by Parmigianino at The National Gallery for the First Time in 10 YEARS
After an extensive restoration, The Vision of St Jerome is back on display at the National Gallery and looking magnificent! A small exhibition has been organised to celebrate the return of this mannerist masterpiece to public view and it pulls together preparatory sketches from around the world to inform the creative process of Parmigianino's masterpiece. The exhibition is a satisfying free show which helps us understand this key work (in the National Gallery's collection since 1826) more deeply. Come and join me as I explore.

    Someone threw up in the street outside my house and created quite a mess, but then I thought maybe he's a just a good colourist! When confronted by stupidity it's a useful get out of jail card. A complete waste of everyone's time. As for Rouy it all seems a little superficial to me. Like a couple of other artists but without the depth of feeling. They'll sell well to those that can't stomach the real thing on their walls. Very comforting. However, another great video. I'm working my way through 😄

    Seeing these paintings is a delight. I always liked some of Van Gogh's work but this video captures the amazing talent that came from his soul as I looked at many works I had and had not seen. One thing I had never noticed is how he captured expressiveness of the eyes in each portrait. When I was in Saint Remy years ago as I drove along a road outside of town it was a WOW moment. It was like his paintings and those of other impressionists came to life as I looked at the trees, the light. the colors. I wish I could click my heels and walk into the museum. Thank you for taking me there.

    Hi George. Thanks for introducing me to George Rouy! I loved what I saw in your video and have just been looking at his work online and think he's great. I'd agree that some of his works are more intense than others, but he's an artist I'll be keen to follow. And as for André Butzer...🎃🎃🎃 Here in Madrid the Thyssen had an exhibition with about 20 of his pieces over the summer and I almost had a bit of a "have my taxes paid for this to be put on" rant. But I guess that it's all a question of taste and currently the Thyssen has an amazing Gabriele Münter exhibition, so all is forgiven!

    • @artgalleryexplorer
      @artgalleryexplorer 3 дні тому

      Rouy is one to watch. I saw that Butzer had shown in Madrid! I will be interested to see what you think about the Takashi Murakami show that I am going to post this week or next because his work splits opinion between those who really enjoy it and those who dismiss it as kitsch. I would dearly love to see that Münter show. Great that greater recognition is finally coming her way.

    An inspired subject for an exhibition, and a great introduction to it - many thanks. I'd come across her name when reading about Ravilious, but had no idea of her versatility: she seems to have been moving in so many directions at once, and could clearly have become even more intriguing if she'd had the time. A tragic loss. Thanks again. I've already ordered the catalogue, and will get to Dulwich asap.

    Hi George visited yesterday! I haven't stopped thinking about it... Almost everything I saw and read was new to me. In just two years..to produce works like these, in between bouts of illness. I loved the colours, marks, the thickness of the paint...but sometimes the smoothness of it, so much more too. I particularly enjoyed the series of olive tree paintings. It was very very crowded, and a screaming baby was distracting! However, I don't blame anyone for wanting to go. Great to have every picture in your vlog. I have just re watched it with the booklet in front of me. Challenged by the way to see the exhibition without new specs yet...! Still worth going. Hope your long booking wait for another ticket was successful.

    There is little artistic value in the winner's piece. Did she make the "doily" herself? I suspect not. Surely the one thing that could have been done was to make the Ford logo on the wheels at all the same angle, I would suggest horizontal.........but then I'm not an "artist". This is extracting the yellow stuff, isn't it. Surely this is no more "artistic" than placing a tablecloth on a table.

    I don't think I'll have chance to see this, so thank you for sharing. I absolutely adores his work, and it truly is a massive loss to the art world 🩷

    Thank you very much for showing us these beautiful works, I was very saddened to learn of the death of Master Auerbach, I will dedicate my next exhibition to him

      This was a big show - BUT not my favourite of the London School!

    I stumbled across your Gogh vlog (Poets & Lovers) few days ago and find it enjoyable. I plan to see this Picasso exhibition, so watched this vlog. It’s informative and selection of works is great. Can’t wait to see it for real. Looking at the past vlogs, I can see I went about a half of them, it would be an interesting watch. There are also those I was interested but missed, they would be consolation prizes for me. I subscribe your channel Now. Looking forward to more vlogs to come!
