Good effort Tommo, but the sunglasses disconnect you from your viewers, so it would be more engaging if you presented without them.
@MP-ve4cj I agree. Unfortunately the sun was so bright I tried without and looked like my eyes were closed. So I decided to go with the glasses as this was my 6th recording of it 🙃
David's channel is my favorite over all. SV delos is my only other one in the ball park.
It's not a real homage until you go on a Norwegian cruise and complain about absolutely everything. [wink] I love David and his channels. Thanks for doing this!
😂 Thanks for watching
It cannot be England there's none of them.Plastic boats arriving
Davids channels are wonderful. I don't cruise the canals or van camp, but I've watched hours and hours of his videos. They are informative, funny, and calming. Just what this senior chap needs :)
@@decaf4me2 I agree
Very interesting series idea Tommo, I think youtube channels should explore new ideas like this. Keep it up :)
@@ChrisGetsOut Thanks
You are very kind, thank you 😀
@CruisingTheCut Thank you for letting me talk about you sir. Looking forward to your next video
I don’t know how to do it but I’ve seen other people do it, I think you can take clips from other videos and include them, it would help deliver the message. Now off to watch some videos about canals.
@yanafloat I agree and I did look into that, and I did intend to put some in originally. In order to download other people's videos, you need to have UA-cam premium apparently. I'm too tight for that
@@fat_tommo_goes_boating Tommo, you're right in order to download a whole video you need UA-cam premium. But you may be able to make clips (up to 60 seconds) of a video. That's a channel setting. Click on the three dots next to a video and see if you can see clips. David's channel doesn't permit them. Others do.
@@anotherangleUK thanks Phil, I will try that
Looks a good day out, will there be a long vid?

Ref being recognised, was it you who pulled my sickly Amarok and trailer up the slipway in Christchurch? Greatly appreciated if it was - have seen you out and about on the boat but not since discovering your channel! Hope boat is fixed soon
@tonyf4303 Hello, yeah that was me who pulled you out with my van. Hope you got sorted ok when the tide rose up
@@fat_tommo_goes_boating Yes, thanks, once I restarted the Amarok the fault cleared and it pulled the boat out no problem once the water was back. Lucky enough to have an alternate tow vehicle and to live fairly local. Look forward to seeing you on the water again!

This was my dad’s boat about 20 years ago. They absolutely loved her and won a lot of races at shyc in Eastbourne. Also went across to France etc many times. So sad to see it left like this. Great memories with her
@@thomasreid9761 it is a terrible shame
Hello Tommo. I am a boat builder since the early seventies, and what You are seeing is where the outer skin of the boat has broken through around an air bubble left from the construction process at the factory between the first laminate ( gel coat with a layer of mat and cloth over, and the second, where You see the Woven Roving, a heavier layer of mat with a heavier layer of heavier strand woven roving laminate. ) Lloyd's of London speck on fiberglass repair is recommended at a ratio of ten to one scarf for repair. In this case a filler would be adequate where the air pocket is, and the outer layer scarfed to Lloyd's spec. to properly scarf the mat and clothe repair back together. Best of luck with Your repair. The lamination process left some bubbles between the laminate. If the vessel is new and under warranty, it is definitely a factory issue.
@@mikenotpublicgoogleinfo2880 thanks for that comprehensive comment and opinion. The boat is 30 years old, it was the 1994 Southampton boat show boat, so not under warranty obviously. It's being professionally repaired next weekend, so look out for another video showing the repair process etc
@@fat_tommo_goes_boating What he said Tommo!! ☝☝☝. I was watching and had no idea what caused this. If an impact, surely you would have felt that. I was down to thinking someone hit you in a carpark until I saw the damage was underneath! Definitely a job for the experts so will be very interested to find out what it turns out to be and what repair they do.
@@SailingWithDave we will find out on Saturday hopefully
@@fat_tommo_goes_boating Hope she's not to badly beaten up!
@SailingWithDave it's fine thanks Dave
It's the rollers on your trailer that are doing the damage! Years of rolling on and off the trailer on the same part of the Hull.
@stu-zw9bh possibly but doubtful because it's only been on this trailer about 2 years, maybe slightly less and I guess it has only been on and off it maybe 30 times
Look forward to seeing the repair job FT. Good job you spotted the problem. D
@@LeeShoresLazyJacksandLunches Great to hear from you Dave, hope you are doing ok. I have missed your videos.
As a boat owner who repairs them, I see your hull is very thin on the bottom. This would be a interior lamination, not a exterior repair. Hull bottoms should be very thick layers of fiberglass. Not what I just saw here.
@StarChasersHere thanks for the info but many race hulls like mine are built lighter for less weight. The more I look at it, the more it seems like a previous repair, as there are two layers of glass not bonded together, its also dry inside, I have probed it with a moisture meter, so that's good. It's all on a chine too. It's being repaired professionally next weekend, so I will know more when we grind it back and get into it 🤞
@@fat_tommo_goes_boating When you look at the thickness of the fiberglass and see just a few layers, make the smart choices. Open her up and look. That long crack running down the chine says it all, I'm thin here.
😢my old boat in 1980s...so sad....has anyone taken her on???
@dougwood4438 last I heard somebody had agreed to but not completed the deal fully
Great video as always Tommo, looking forward to the repair 🛥️🛥️🛥️🛥️
@@BoatzUK you can come and polish it all up afterwards 🤣
@@fat_tommo_goes_boating my arms fell off this week for all the polishing I have been doing 🤣🤣
Good video Tommo. Like you say, those little pits look like they were starting to let in water to cause the delamination. I reckon the rollers then just finished it off . Oh, I've created my very first YT video too, let me know what you think!
@ChrisGetsOut it's a really good video, Chris. I used to be berthed there, so know it well, still have a few friends there too.
@@fat_tommo_goes_boating One day we should do a collaboration video, would love to get my boat out where you are based 😃
@@ChrisGetsOut that sounds great, I'm actually based 45 miles from the nearest sea, I just happen to launch in the same area most of the time, mainly because I like free launching and sandy beaches. I'm flexible on launch locations though.
wow thats a bit of a shock, glad you found it , could it be osmosis repairs, pressure of the high speed movement cuased it to delaminate , @sailingwithdave will sort it hes goood with fibreglass ,hope you sort it ok
Bit of a disaster but could have been more of a disaster if you'd not seen the damage and launched her again. Good to get professional advice to take a look - can you get access inside? I'm no expert with fibreglass but it looks like a previous repair has been made there. Did you say you knew who had the boat between 'your' ownerships?
Yes, I know who had it in between, but I don't believe he did anything because the hull still had remnants of the antifoul that I didn't remove the first time on it. I also am in contact with the previous 2 owners, so I can trace the boat back at least 13 years but it seems to be a surprise to everyone 😂
@@fat_tommo_goes_boating Well main thing is you’re getting advice to get a proper fix. You’ll be back on water soon 👍
@@anotherangleUK hopefully it will be all sorted next weekend 👍
That’s a bit strange! Looks like the holes are all in line too? If you had hit something going along, you would think you would have heard it.
@boat-adventures yes exactly, we had one or two heavy ish waves, but nothing unusual or to give a second thought to. It's a total mystery. I will probably know more next week when my mate Rich from Bespoke Marine has a look at it and we get into the repair. In the meantime, I can now clean all the hull up
Thanks for showing slipways. I don't think anyone else is doing the same.
@joewilliams5396 there will be more soon and lots planned over the winter too
I’m sure you’ll be back on the water in no time Tommo that looks like quite minor delaminating! It is heartbreaking though when there is good weather on the way. I missed most of last summer as I was rebuilding my blown up outboard and I’ve missed the past 2 months this summer because of cracks in my bulkheads and just generally strengthening the entire hull, fitting it out with stringers etc…. I’m really hoping summer 2025 is my year 😂 good luck mate 👍🏼
@drewr34 Cheers, mate, the plan is it will be sorted next weekend, we will see, though
Sorry to see your hole! Do you think trailer recovery may have caused it?
@Daze_off2 I don't show my hole to just anybody mate 🤣 No I don't think the trailer caused it because I winch it on slowly by hand. I am wondering if the bits actually fell out on the road and that's why there was no water in the hull though
😂 I’m sure you’ll have it sorted in no time. Looking forward to the repair video👍🏻
Could the rollers be doing the damage?Good luck with the repairs,I enjoy following your channel.
@dermotleonard259 I'm glad you enjoy my efforts, no I don't think it is the trailer rollers because I winch it on slowly by hand. I'm wondering if the bits fell out on the road and that's why there was no water in the boat though
@fat_tommo_goes_boating I read once that bunks are better than rollers for older boats as they support the hull over a wider area,it might be worth considering especially if there are signs of stress anywhere else near the rollers.
@dermotleonard259 Yes, bunks do spread the load better than rollers, that's why trailers like mine have so many rollers. I have no concerns about the trailer though.
Enjoy your Vids Tommo. My Father had a Small Boat Yard in Bristol in the 70’s we spent a lot of time in your part of World as he did business with Nigel Stride and the Boat & Chandlery Auction near Tuckton. He also had a partnership with a Poole based manufacturer to produce fibreglass ‘Dorset Small Boats’ which was a small 14’ cabin cruiser. We holidayed every year on Mudeford Sandbanks for 2 weeks and we usually took a Fletcher or Dorset Small Boat always with 50Hp Mercury. Amazed at your Fletcher!…have never seen one before!..Awesome Beast!.
@jonandrews4493 thats great to hear, I'm pleased you enjoy them. I don't actually live locally to Mudeford but I am there often. My boat is a Shakespeare, not a Fletcher though 🫣
@@fat_tommo_goes_boating My apologies!, of course it’s a Shakespeare!…I got a bit muddled!, he also used to sell Shakespeares, but the smaller variety!….
@jonandrews4493 easily done
Sit there with a large ice cream ,, and enjoy , what goes on , if one drops off the end of the concrete , there use to be two poles to point this out . 🤔
@allsearpw3829 there never used to be a drop off on the end of the slipway, it used to do down gradually to the river bed. That was before the council bodged a repair by re doing it with steep sided concrete slabs 🫣
You had me at "Free"!
@SailingWithDave it's a word I like too! 😅
