La Plata resident with a strong urge to railfan. Channel features mainly long form videos typically along the BNSF Marceline Sub (usually around La Plata).
A Traffic Jam on the Marceline snagged Amtrak and a whole lot more. La Plata, MO- September 1, 2024.
Before we left for our visit, we checked the Amtrak Tracker. It showed the Chief was departing Kansas City and was due in La Plata on time (9:21AM or so). However, when we arrived, we found out that a massive traffic glut slowed everything down, taking Amtrak 3 hours behind schedule. Turns out, there was a massive switch failure at Eton out by KC, which froze everything in place. Many trains had to thread the needle on the Marceline, which led to a great traffic flow for us railfans here that afternoon. Hope you enjoy.

There were a lot of tied down trains, and a bit of MoW out and about, so the traffic was held down some today. Nevertheless, the Transcon again delivered, with a lot of foreign power, some great consists, a meet, one totally fouled UP horn, a big 8 lead Z with a sticker unit up front, a meet, a monster Q with a bonnet twice, and some neat old stock. Fun day today! No MoW, and aside from a late Amtrak and some congestion, it was a busy, trainy Sunday in La Plata this week. Spent a lot of time at Highway 156 this time- cloud cover allowed us to do that. Plenty of action from the station and the west curve as well. From A to Z, with B, F, G, H, Q, S, and X in between, we had a great time. Almost 50 minutes of fun. Hope you enjoy.

The first train we got today was a nice westbound manifest. Little did we know, that would be our ONLY westbound today. So, we all know La Plata is known for high speeds on the BNSF racetrack. Most videos that come out of there can attest to that. However, today was quite different. Wow, what a day for traffic this Friday afternoon! Even having lost track time to business that called us up on a Friday, there was still an overload of action! Wow, what a Sunday in LAP. Started out with the usual hot and humid July weather, but a big storm rolled in and changed everything. The afternoon was cool and pleasant. The storm held up traffic for a bit, so we were a bit below average for trains. But what we did see was pretty nice. Hope you enjoy.

It was fine in the early afternoon, with a storm cell threatening. Kept it cool and cloudy-at first. But that was swallowed up by the sun, leading to 90's and mugginess that eventually drove us out early. 12 catches in total during our brief stay, and they were good ones. The big cams were offline during our visit, so here are a lot of the trains that went unseen. What a day- so many crossovers. A few meets. A Monster, lots of drone, multiple angles, and overall fun. Wasn't the busiest day, but it was full of action. Hope you enjoy it.

I never heard. They were nabbed by a Q a day or so later though.

Question here. Was there ever a 3rd Rail line with passengers going under tracks? Station looks like stairs were filled in.
I'm not aware of anything like that. There were more tracks here in years past, including the Wabash line that ran where the Lookout sits today, but the passenger traffic has always been how it is now. The concrete platform was rebuilt in 2019 to conform to ADA standards.

This was one of your best videos. Smokin hot rail action and bird watching in La Plata with some good camera angles including the bend in the line west of the station and the east facing shot of the depot with a westbound coming but that scene at 34:00 , whoa ! 😲 that was awesome as the eastbound approaches the drone and crosses over to the next track. Excellent stuff Bubba. 😁👍🏻
