This isn't really authentic African music, it's been heavily Western influenced, as can most evidently be heard by the Western Pop standard 1-4-5 chord progression, and seen by the guitar it's being played on. Given that Western influence has been seeping into Africa ever since the first settlers arrived there, I think finding genuine African music unaffected by it would be very difficult these days. As for any records claiming to have captured the "essence" of African music - these were recorded by Western companies, almost certainly employing a producer whose job would have been to ensure that the final sound appealed to the musical tastes of Western audiences, such that enough records could be sold at a profit to make it worthwhile their investment. He would have had ultimate artistic control over the project and could change any aspect of it he deemed to conflict with their business interests. This all makes me wonder just how authentic they really are. I'm already hearing hall reverb on one recording and fade ins and fade outs. Since when did African villagers become known for singing in halls?
Indeed but many lost their lives

inquisitive871 was probably referring to the Ishango bone (oldest mathmatical objects) from the Eastern Congo region (near the Nile source) ca. 23,000 bc., or the Lebombo bone from Swaziland ca 30,000 bc.
They don't look like pygmy... Aren't they suppose to be small? O.o

@acatisfinetoowut It's still Africa. Also, you need to research. The first university in West Africa was a place where people came from all over to get an education. The Mali Empire has some of the worlds intelligent scholars, which were Sub-Saharan.
@acatisfinetoowut The earliest evidence of mathematics use was found in East Africa. The first mathematicians were in Africa. I guess you are forgetting about the pyramids in Egypt, which are in Africa.
@acatisfinetoowut They have kept the sanctity of the terrain wich makes up our very cradle of human history. Technology this technology that. We´re still unhappy and unbalanced, suffering from diseases by the very food we have manipulated. We kill our selfes due to depression, stress and lack of social contact. Oh my naive western friend, i think that these people are laughing at us.
I am a 32 year old batwa and I am grateful for my ancestors as well as my tribe on giving me the opportunity to learn about my past and anyone who thinks they don't deserve any respect is really stupid they were the first ones to give us civilization.
hey candice you gunna tell me this is wrong to u fricken sally!!!!
beautiful the oldest tribe in Africa, all the way back to egypt and even before that for those who kno, peace to the ancestors thank you for all of your struggles, knowledge, and culture peace to all children of the Sun.
