Hi when u sell a stock because it's down below 20% All time high , in between the rebalancing period, you don't replace it immediately? You wait for rebalancing day to buy the replacement? If yes, why wait for that? And during that time where u place the funds? Also I sold PGEL because it went 20% below ATH, but the very next day it recovered completely and it in top 3 ranks, but now I have already sold and purchased another...What to do? Should I have waited for some more days for final reconfirmation that it has finally gone down ATH, or I have done correct?
Hi Mudit, If we buy immediately the next day. We will invite a lot of churn which is not tax efficient and reduces overall CAGR. Don't worry about such situations, focus on the overall portfolio performance. We've backtested our strategy and found this to be suitable for us. Ok, Thank you sir..
For me personally I feel it depends on how free you are to check and get update about the market... If you're a person who is not busy you can manage many stock at one time if you're in a busy profession then large cap n mid cap with 10 to 15 stock is enough
Hello there ,while that is largely true. Going below 15 stocks will bring in idiosyncratic risk
nice work ....

Do you have any backtesting for the exit strategy?
I didn't quite understand your question. Can you elaborate
@@MomentumLab_IN I am currently using momentum strategies, but I am having difficulty locking in profits. Whenever a stock corrects and exits the ranking criteria, i lose all the profit.
Understood , I have 2 Exit Criteria 1) Exit if the stocks corrects by 20% from is 52 Wk High at the end of closing. Then next day morning I sell that 2) on the day of Rebalance which is 16th if the stock is not in Top 45 list I exit. There is no concept of locking the profits , but to ride as long as the stock shows momentum. Backtesting results of my strategy is here ua-cam.com/video/e1iKnhMTW3k/v-deo.htmlsi=UtTYWU6MHsXNkoxg
Hi MomentumLAB, a great and comprehensive video. Can you also include a video which includes both a momentum + value fund in one's portfolio (Shankar Nath's video, reference link: ua-cam.com/video/aYHRTPTDtNk/v-deo.html) this seems like a great point for observation. The way Miss Geetha and team has worked on the data, I don't think anyone else would be able to do justice to such a deep observation of the above mentioned methodology. PS: Something like include a BSE Enhanced Value Index + Mirae 400 MQ100 vs the broader indices. Thanks already!

Useful video guys... Do you have any video on how adding gold aids in portfolio returns and drawdowns... What I mean is, back testing 100% Momentum50(or any other index) and 50% index +50% gold?. Cause, today I saw weekend investing video on how gold provides better diversification to small cap funds

I wish there was a nifty next 50 momentum index
good content...pls include nifty 500 multicap momentum quality 50 also in future videos..thanks
Very helpful as always. I want to know if you have some view on long rebalancing periods for these mutual funds as most of them have 6 months rebalancing which looks really long. Another question is does number of stocks have any impact on returns as some funds have 30 stocks while some have 100 stocks.
Hi Mohit , In this video we covered the effect of rebalancing frequency and its impact on Momentum investing results ua-cam.com/video/c7FgE3Ml_EE/v-deo.htmlsi=hZMZPaBNRre2b4IH
More is better 50 is better wrt 30
True , idiosyncratic risk of individual stocks goes away and we get exposure to pure momentum factor. But for DIY momentum investors above 30 stocks is difficult to manage / track

Great work guys!!
Thank you
what do you think about a combination of ‘midcap 150 momentum 50 and midcap 150 quality 50 as part of one’s mutual fund portfolio. In your Videos there’s ample evidence based on past data to show that momenttum and quality if combined is great strategy. However since we do not have any such MF offering, if i combine these 2 single factor funds how would my portfolio perform.? I mean i am skeptical becuase the quality factor index alone is not able to beat the market based midcap 150 index.
Hey there , you can backtest combining these two strategies. Prima facie they are a good pair because of their low correlation in excess returns over NIFTY. My observation is 1. Momentum / Alpha -- on one side 2. low Vol / Quality / Value -- on the other side Make a great combo
@@MomentumLab_IN thankyou team. I plan to backtest the same and will share results in future Video comments 😀. Thankyou and keep making interesting videos 😊
Since my portfolio has multiple inflows and outflows, Tracking it's NAV on daily basis on spreadsheet is difficult (and I don't know how to calculate NAV for a portfolio with inflows and outflows at every month end).... So what I am doing is, I am calculating my Portfolio XIRR at every month end and compare it with index (TRI) XIRR since inception of my portfolio, for benchmarking purpose... 1. Is it a correct way of assessing portfolio performance? 2. Is there any method to calculate NAV (to be calculated every month end) of a Portfolio with multiple inflows and outflows? kindly let me know
Thanks Sekhar. Really enjoying the data driven videos that you put on the channel. I had a request to make. Mr. Shankar Nath uploaded a video on his channel a while back titled 'I will select these two mutual funds for a lifetime portfolio', where he backtested data to invest 100% either in Momentum or in Value. The switch, as he put it, would be made on the Nifty moving 20% in either direction over a period of 3 months. For instance, if one is invested completely in momentum, one would continue to do so until nifty breaks by 20% over any period of 3 months. If and when it does fall by 20%, the entire investment would be moved to value, and would stay in value, until nifty rises by 20% over 3 months. With backtested data, he calculated 15 yr CAGR of over 22%, which seems quite impressive. What are your thoughts on this? I was wondering if Quality or Low Vol would be a better switch in a falling market instead of Value, and if the switch itself can be tweaked for even better returns. If you would consider this topic for a video, it would be really interesting to watch.
Thank you Sagar, interesting strategy .can you share the video here. Is he shifting to value based on 20% fall of NIFTY ? I'll try and replicate and more importantly share the calculations of the strategy with everyone.
Hi. Yes. The shift was on the basis of fall in NIFTY. This is the video. ua-cam.com/video/aYHRTPTDtNk/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/aYHRTPTDtNk/v-deo.html
I think my reply with the link to the video is getting deleted for some reason. The video is titled 'I'll Select These TWO Mutual Funds for my Lifetime Investing Portfolio'. And yes, he was shifting between the two factors on the occurrence of 20% fall in NIFTY.
hi guys, love your analysis and the show. any chance you guys can improve the sound quality a little
Hey there, sure will try our best to improve the sound quality 🙏

@@MomentumLab_IN Thanks. I have got access to the code. However I have previously tried somethong like this. On one of the Valupickr threads, I came to know about discrepancy the data obtained from yahoo finance (when compared to the data obtained from Google finance or NSE Bhavcopy), have u matched the datasets and found any such mismatch ?
Thank you so much very Nice video and very helpful, I have a question when we do we book profit?
Thank you for your kind words! Regarding your question, we are running this momentum strategy with the mindset of holding onto our positions indefinitely, unless an emergency arises that requires us to reconsider. It’s more of a personal choice rather than a trading activity, and not something we actively manage with a fixed profit-taking point.
Also pls give your email , so I can communicate further in detail. Thanks
Sure it's momentumsmartmoney@gmail.com
Dear Shekhar, in the paper you provided, the stop loss is applied at 10% of last month price. But if its a trailing stop loss, and if my stock has already gone up from purchase price to ,lets say 60%, and then I apply 10% stop loss, most of the time, stock still remains in Top 10 ranking, but due to my stop loss, it gets sold, and then i have to purchase the stock which is below in rank, compared to one i sold..what to do
Better to avoid tight stop loss. Personally I do not use trailing SL. Only if the stock reverses its trend I exit. How do I know the change in trend ? 1) If stock is below 20% from it's ATH ( Nothing to do with our Buy Price here) 2) If it breaches WRH (Worst Rank Held)
Good initiative by momentum lab to bring other minds.Thankyou for the transparency

Hello dear....is it ok to apply trailing stop loss of 15% on stock level, along with Worst held rank , as an exit criteria?
Hi Mudit ji, By putting SL, you will optimize for Risk : Reward ratio (Sharpe Ratio) & also can limit the Maximum DrawDown but the overall returns will take a beating. You can refer to this research paper for more on this. www.cicfconf.org/sites/default/files/paper_811.pdf

Dear Shekar, Capital Gains are 20% for STCG. If we assume 18% CAGR, though deducting 20 % of returns every year, for 10 years, may not be same as 20% tax applied on 18 % CAGR. Sequence of returns will play a role. As a thumb rule, if we take 20% on 18%, 3.6 % returns need to be deducted. Is there any way we can avoid STCG ? For stocks, ETFs or MFs, for better risk adjusted returns, we have to churn and incur STCG. Saving a 1.25 lakh odd on a corpus of 1 Crore through Tax harvesting for LTCG may not change dynamics much.
