Wait! Stop! Get to know some locals first and figure out how not to get eaten out there. We have canoed the bayues of South Louisiana and in retrospect I am glad I survived it! The locals can advise you on watercraft safe enough to survive a crocodile attack. Congrats for surviving Red Kayak! While around Cane river please enjoy the area. The food is fabulous and the locals are fabulous people.
Very Nice Intro!!!!!!!
Beautiful River! What kind of kayak do you recommend for this River ? We just have a basic one that we use for low water levels where we live
@@gakkaoutdoors I don’t think there’s a wrong kayak for this water. Since there’s no shallow spots and you won’t be hitting rocks on accident, I wouldn’t have any reservation using a composite material, but a roto-molded boat would be fine as well. Although you will see a lot of beginners in rental kayaks that are wider and stable, I’m not sure if I would call this beginner water. The surface appears really flat, but that current can be quite strong. Actually, I think the only type of boat I would not recommend is a low end inflatable.. I saw some people struggling to go back up river in those.
That’s a good looking river
It’s really beautiful! Thanks for watching.
Why do you choose the type of kayak that you have compared to different ones I see that look wider and not as long and pointy?
@@scottbatzler412 The longer and sleeker the boat, the faster it will be, generally speaking. You do lose some stability with a narrower boat, so it’s not the best choice for a beginner. Longer boats also track much straighter.
@ as far as handling wakes from other boats?
@ it’s superior design provided you know how to steer into a wake. A flat kayak is just going to slam down, whereas this cuts through waves and wakes.
need to change your Mic ... can barely hear you and my volume is max'ed
I appreciate your feedback. My conundrum is that if I attach a mic, then I can’t put my GoPro in its protective housing. I’ll figure out a solution for this before my next season. Thanks for watching anyway. 😊
@18:00 Hello Red Kayak Lady!
Hello!

@@scottbatzler412 it’s the 31st. You’re welcome!
@ thank you for that kind information
Salmon time!!!!!!!!!!!
I had no idea there were salmon in the Milwaukee River!

And thanks for subscribing!
Born in Peoria Grew up in Dolton now next state over...ever do that at the dunes?
There's something about her paddling that we find intriguing. Men of Culture appreciate a good kayak video.
Thank you for the kind comment. It’s such a pleasure sharing my adventures!
Lady in Red Kayak what a Beautiful River ,love the Rock formations you have pick a sweet place. Thanks so much.❤🔥❣
This one will be hard to follow up! One of the mot beautiful places in southern Wisconsin to paddle.
I live in Portage and remember seeing most of a rooftop float by. Walking dry mirror lake was also pretty interesting. All kinds of treasures. Even an old microwave.
That was just devastating to those homeowners. Fortunately, no one was injured but I do remember one story of a family losing the dream home they built and insurance not covering the loss.
I was staying at Wyalusing state park last weekend ( October 26th) and I couldn't believe how low the river was. When was this filmed? Thanks!
It sure was a strange year for water levels. June was constant rain leading to very high water levels in July, then August and September were like a drought. This was filmed July 11th.
@Redkayaklady Hey, thanks! Going up next weekend ( Nov 8th-9th to try again). Take care.
I tend to only paddle that area in winter or early spring. Same with the Upper Dells. It's hard to connect to nature with tour boats with their loud speakers going by.
Exactly. Still beautiful but the peace and serenity is not a reality during peak season unless you get up really early.
Great video beautiful can I ask what's the specks of you kayak...keep up the great videos...
My sea kayak is 17.5’ and 50 lbs. I believe it to be 21 or 22” wide.
Adore the WisDells, stayed there so many times, typically at Wilderness on the Lake. We even stayed there when it was a mud pit lake after the great draining that you mention. Unfortunately, that event began the downward spiral for The Tommy Bartlett Show, and during COVID in 2020, the iconic show closed permanently. How super sad! I workout run in the Bartlett parking lot where there's still signs and a giant wooden bear and it breaks my heart. Thanks for showing us the wonderful Dells, @RedKayakLady. I'm moving to Lake Geneva from St Charles, IL this springtime (will have a place in each location), yay!
I love St. Charles! I grew up in DuPage County. I did a paddle on Lake Delton last year and went in to a little of the history when I passed the site. The bleachers and most of what you can see from the lake is still there. I remember back in the 80s how many cars you’d see in Illinois with Tommy Bartlett stickers on them. (Rumor had it the staff were just sticking them on all the cars in the lot during the show.)
Thank you for the journey! Enjoy your paddling
Thank you! And thanks for watching!
Very relaxing and scenic, I’ve not visited your part of the country yet but want to seeing this.
So many beautiful places to see in Wisconsin!
When the young man was taking a selfie on the ledge reminded me of the time my daughter did that at the Grand Canyon
That would give me so much anxiety!
another nice video thanks
A hidden gem! Thanks for watching!
"Two tenth of a mile" Reminds me of my jaunt up Candies Creek in my red Pongo wilderness Kayak ... it was fun before all the strainers across the creek showed up.
Yeah I wouldn’t have portaged had I known! Oh well. All part of the adventure. Thanks for watching!
The Carpentersville Dam has recently been mostly removed. There’s now a 10 mile open stretch to Algonquin. Northern IL has been in severe drought so there’s lot of new shore near the former dam at Fox River Shores FP. Will be interesting to see the future transformation. This might end up being the only dam removed so there will be lots to study on the pros vs cons. The fishing and the rest of the river ecology on this segment will benefit. These dams were never designed for flood control nor dothey provide any. They were built over 150 years ago for Industrial Power and Ice Harvesting.
Interesting. I’ll be following the result of the removal. It would sure be nice to have a longer stretch to paddle.
Yikes! The crowd was too much for me. I would have been off the river at the first take out for sure. A crisp early fall weekday it would be a beautiful paddle. I admire your calm nature and well edited videos.
Thank you for the kind words! I was hoping to get back there in September on a weekday but darn full time employment getting in the way of my recreation again, darn it. Thanks for watching.
you should try a pakayak
I had the opportunity to recently. FAR superior to this pool toy but not near as good as the Trak skin on frame kayak. Still haven’t purchased a portable though. The $3800 price tag on the Trek is insane.
you should try a pakayak
If I found a used on at a decent price, I would consider a purchase.
I've never heard of Yellowstone Lake, in Wisconsin....so, naturally i had to do some homework on this lake. I wonder if certain sections of the lake allows motor boats and certain sections do not? Overall, it's a very beautiful lake.
Definitely a hidden gem!
im in my late 50s just got new kyak your videos inspire me thanks
You have no idea how happy it makes me that I’ve inspired someone to get out on the water! Thank you for letting me know. 😊
how heavy is that boat you must work out
It’s Kevlar so relatively light for 17.5’. It’s about 50 pounds. It’s more about good body mechanics and finding the center of balance. (I have a few shorts of how I get it on my vehicle)
:funny:
good tunes choice
Thought this song was PERFECT! 😊
You are just so freakin cute
Awe, thanks. 😊
13:57 wow its like a cracker jack box, surprise after surprise. I truly felt your frustration in this video. From another FIB I just wanted to jump into the screen and rescue you :-) I should power watch all your shows after work one day because you just so damm cute. Also thanks for sharing the turkey swiss share more in the future please. I bet you like to watch MST3K too.
I have to admit I had no idea what MST3K was until I just looked it up. Honestly, I rarely watch TV, but it sounds funny! Thanks for watching!
12:03 I knew it thank you !
😆 The origin of the name remains a mystery!
You dont need to be in the boat I could listen to a full episode with just you chatting outside !
Awe I don’t know if I’m that interesting, but thank you!
I always love your kayaking adventures. I do something similar with my FJ sailboat at Clear Lake , IA.
I have yet to paddle in Iowa but I’ve seen beautiful images of the Upper Iowa River. I’ll get there one day!
Thanks for the video. No thanks for the River trip. I can't believe how some people think it is ok to throw things in a river or lake.
Oh that river was a dump!! Sure made me appreciate the clean rivers I paddle.
Amazing how calm the surface is. Thanks for the video.
It’s a pretty spectacular place. Thanks for watching!
Love the history and the gorgeous history teacher.....nothing sexier than a smart pretty woman!
Oh, thanks. I really enjoyed learning about this area. Thanks for watching!
2nd video of yours I've watched, you are super cool. That was a nice river except for the crowd.
Welcome! Thank you for watching. I’ll get there one of these days in the off-season.
Your commentary is priceless. Nice little river tour.
I just loved this area! Thanks for watching.

Nice. I'm headed up there to do some fishing next week!!
Have fun! I hear the river is full of sturgeon! 😊
Can I Kayak with you some time? I live in Geneva, IL and I would love to get some pointers from you on paddling. We can Kayak on the Fox River or a river/lake of your choice in Wi.
I love paddling the Fox River and I’m looking forward to some of those dams to be removed. I’m 100% a solo paddler though.
Rated r kids lpl
You should hear me when I’m in the car alone talk to the bad drivers.
When you do get to Door County, make sure to paddle at Kangaroo Lake, I hear it’s nice there.
Had a buddy who had a house on that lake....can hardly remember it though.
I was there in mid July (haven’t edited that yet). I paddled Kangaroo Lake and at Peninsula State Park. I hoped to do Cave Point but the wind was too strong on that side of the peninsula that day. The north part of Kanagroo Lake (N of CTE-E) is either no wake or no motors. Pretty much only paddle craft there. It was pretty spectacular. South of there seemed quite busy with power boats.
Thank you so much for all of the interesting facts and local history.
You’re welcome! I enjoyed learning about that area.
Lady in Red Kayak You are Human 😆😅😂🤣 I love when those Two Sturgeon Jump Out of the Water . Sweetie I would Piss myself but you just said a Fun word. I can believe more people don’t watch your Videos. You are an Awesome History teacher. My Hats Off. you Take Care and Be Safe hope to see you more. Bye Gory. 👍
Well I’m still sorta new at this - learning as I go but it’s so much fun! Not quitting the day job any time soon. Glad you’re enjoying them.
Had to turn my earbuds down from all the 'dams' and 'beeps'... Holy moly... Oh geez, now you got me swearing
I try to keep it to a PG rating 😆. I guess I was just excited that day.
