Upgrade Possibilities for the 72V RAWRR Mantis X
I broke my brand new Rawrr Mantis X after updating the controller through Rawrr's app (which is not yet updated for the Mantis X at this time.) This forced me to poke around the bike and look over all the components in more detail, which I'll be sharing with you guys. Hopefully this helps you understand how the bike works and what possible upgrades you can do to yours in the future.

Definitely not a 5hp motor.... i have a 5hp engine on the very same jone boat as you and it can get the boat to plane
@@hughrs yes, I debunked this in the video.. I said it the labeling didn’t make sense because 1200 watts is less than 2 Hp
@@PatOutdoors I know you said that.... at best it's a 2hp... I with there could be something that could be done about all these Chinese companies and their faults advertising ugh
Is there a way to unlock the speed? Like a wire to cut?
There’s not
Surprised by smoking cigarette.
I can’t wait to get me one!!! I brought a A1 async what a piece of shit battery messed up on me and customer service is a joke..
Something wrong in this apt 101 whatever they doing, implicate everyone on my nueral mointering ....the neighbors let them use there apt to access ours.....Cops wont help maybe one of you will......muscle over blood money
so ss pro is faster.?
@@Exo_carbon.24 yes, but for an extra $1500
I need one
Just did this upgrade on my son’s MX650. This was a good upgrade. The OEM shock was letting the rear end squat way too much.
Thanks for the video! How is the motor holding up after a year? Thanks again
can you do this with g2 max i think im gonna buy it
@@vezze0 I don’t have one of those to do it with unfortunately
@@PatOutdoors okay but do you think the range is bad whit max speed?
When you first started to build this bike to make it street legal, did you only have integrated turn signals in the rear or did you have the front ones too? Keep up the great content man! Ride safe and enjoy!
You should add a kill switch to the head light
Good idea! Anything to help the current battery life would be good..
The light can be unplugged and taken off. That's what I did since I won't be riding at night for now. The spare front number plate replaces the light or you can just leave it on. An off selection on the switch would be nice though.
@@lentomlak true, but I like riding at night often so I may just do a switch
The details on ypur builds are nice to see. Im curious how long it took for your amorge battery to arrive? I ordered one but it seems it will be a couple months.
Took about 5-6 weeks for me. Really depends how common your specs are
Do it - Star Wars
Do you have a video of you out riding this bike? I cant seem to find it on your channel.
That’s cuz I haven’t finished this one! Have to make some changes to make a better alignment for the driiveline
How would you compare this bike in terms of performance with your custom builds like your YZ250, or the pit bike build with the QS138, or even the MX650?
It’s miles ahead of the pit bike or any of my razors for off-road capability, but not compared to my YZ250.. but keep in mind this is just how the bike comes from factory and I have well over $3K in parts modifications and 20 hours of disassembly / assembly / fabrication / wiring invested into my YZ250.. plus the cost of a Yz250. 🤷🏾♂️
I would compare it with similar class bikes as far as handling such as my Talaria XXX or Surron Light Bee X
Electric outboards are so far behind... Imagine the surron power specs on one of these. Wouldn't be bad at all and small
Well that’s actually why I bought this 😂 To maybe stick an Electro & Co EC4P, MY1020, or a small QS motor and a Kelly controller, 72V battery, and crank it to at least 6,000 watts like my little bikes..
@@PatOutdoors Kelly controller bro NO. Fardriver or BAC. Wanna see what 8kw sustained can do. Fardriver controller has water cooling plates FYI
@@JuanJDumeP I was just thinking about what I have laying around. I’m using my FarDriver ND72530 on my Razor right now.. but I think that’s too much power for this shaft / housing / prop combo
@@PatOutdoors that is indeed powerful I have the nd72850 and it's a monster. You don't have to use 100% of the controller power you can adjust the current output via the app start at 50 amps and go up from there.
Pat u messed it up ALREADY bro lol
lol it’s not permanent, it’ll be fixed by next week
@PatOutdoors mines should be here by then bro
Oo im glad i held off on getting a talaria xxx. This bike looks better and has a better suspension from what I've seen. I might try and sell my 72v razor and get a good chunk of change towards this so my wallet doesn't cry as much lmfao 🤣
I was saving up 3K for a new bike specifically the Talaria x3 but I'm more interested in the mantis now 🤙🤙
This is what i was sayingggg, this happened to me aswell they had to send an agent to replace my bike
But they specifically said not to do this on their site 🤷🏾♂️ I just didn’t read it
@@PatOutdoors i knowwww i was actually the first one it happened to and after having to replace my bike they put in the warning on the site

getting mine soon, love watching everyones videos on it, keep it up! yours have been the most comprehensive so far
Yeah, Pat's videos are the best. All the other guys do is ride out in the street and pop wheelies.
I did the same thing rawrr fixed it in 5 min, just had to take it to them, good thing there down the street from my house 😅😅
Yeah they just have to reinstall the software for the mantis x back to the controller. Too bad I’m across the country on the east coast 🙄
DAMN, This is why im nervous AF to update my Nucular.. Cant wait for that vid... Good luck my friend
I did a similar thing. I own this same outboard except I used my surron battery. Its 67.2 volts full and runs this hangkai outboard motor perfect for over 4 hours. No over heating. I use it in salt water only for the dinghy on the back of my sailboat. (I just rinse after every use) Had it for 4 years now and still works great. Only had to replace prop shaf seal after first year, then I used 90wt oil. Little noise for electric but I love it
Wait what! I what controller are you using? The original 25A 48v controller?
@@PatOutdoors yes stock controller runs 67v no issue's I want to tey 84 next
I'm curious about a belt conversion for a stealthy street build
Is that the QS138 V3 70h or 90h? Also wondering what controller you are using. Im in the middle of a build using the 138 v3 70h and a 72530 fardriver and I think I got the exact same battery that you have. I ordered the 72v 42ah 350a continues 450a peak from Amorge. The doner bike is a 04 YZ85. I hope it turns out as nice as yours with simular power. Your bike looks like it rips.
@@bransonlariscy4660 it’s the 70H v3. I’m using a Votol 25kw controller from Electro & Co.. That’s gonna be beast power on an 85!
@@PatOutdoors I hope so, the motor was and controller was just delivered today. After I ordered it I learned of the qs180 with gear reduction, I kinda wish I would have went it now. But we'll see how it goes. I can always upgrade later and use the 138 for something else. BTW how long did it take for your battery to arrive after ordering? I just ordered mine yesterday. they said 20-30 days. Im really hoping it doesn't take that long lol.
No upgrades yet , but they working on it! It did say dont do the app tho 👍
I know.. it was my fault 🤦🏾♂️ But good way to test and find out how good their customer service is!
oh no ! I over read that app only works with the reg Mantis 72v and will Mess up your controller ... idk but sumthn like that.... Reads at Bottom of there website
So we’re just not gonna talk about the super 73 or close to it frame in the back 😂 is it a new project?
Shhh 🤫 Too many things going on right now. I still gotta announce a 10K giveaway a week or so late lol
There is a company is cali that is tuning the stock controller for $399 i believe. Supposedly it results in 10-12kw power output.
With the stock 30AH battery on the X?! I can see how that’s possible on the larger Mantis
@@PatOutdoors there are people in the mantis fb group who say they already have the tune. When i spoke to rawrr on the phone they mentioned the tune also but quickly mentioned the top speed will still be 50mph. The top speed limit is definitely software based.
@@MrJroc04si Ah that's what I suspected. This is actually why I'm still looking at aftermarket controller options so we can touch at least 60 MPH eventually..
Pat - Have you figured out where those rubber blocks go ? I just got my Mantis X last week and pulled the battery out to wash it out and noticed the 2 rubber blocks laying in the bottom of the battery compartment. It looks to me like maybe the battery sits on these blocks on top of the 2 rails on the bottom. Not completely sure though. Let us know if you figure it out. Also want to add that this is my first e moto bike and I absolutely love it. I can ride this around my home without anyone knowing I'm there, something I cannot do with my RM 250.
@@lentomlak well I saw your comment so I pulled the battery out to figure out for myself, but it appears I only had one 😂. I may have lost the other when this bike was getting shook at the rough trails I went through last weekend. Is it just the foam block? I’ll ask RAWRR to see if they can send me a pic of how it’s supposed to be oriented
@@PatOutdoorsthe rubber pad is for under the seat. it sits in the square under there. it rides over top of the battery handle. Mine was loose as well i super glued it on and now it’s fine.
@@caviproductions Thanks for the input! Do you happen to know where the second one goes that @lentomlak is asking about?
@@PatOutdoors my bike only had 1 as well. He may have just had an extra one in there. The adhesive on that part was pretty weak - it was hanging off every time i pulled the seat off. Super glue worked perfectly tho.
@@caviproductions Thanks for the info. I found 2 and at least one of them was in the very bottom of the battery box. One other thing I noticed is the bottom corner of the battery must have been rubbing against one of the orange wires at the bottom and rubbed part of it away. I reinforced it with some duct tape. So watch out for that you guys.
get 2 of them and you will be going much faster i say around 14mph
pretty upset I didn't get to see the wheelie test😡
😂 you do for me
This thing looks sweet!
Great vid!
Really hope they fix that bluetooth dongle would be a waist of 160$ when it says works with all 72v bikes
They actually have a disclaimer that states the app is not compatible with the mantis x and mini just yet

damn pat you can't have anything nice lol but its good to see what you did and showed others on what not to do wit there bike when they get it ....... i mean a fardriver would look really nice in that spot of the old controller just saying haha
Hmm I thought about it but size wise seems like the ND72300 is the largest I can fit there, which wouldn’t be a huge enough of an upgrade
I believe it’s a Samsung battery
Yup it is
Same dimensions as surron?
@@omarreynold6782idk
@@omarreynold6782 not sure
Is this better than the talaria x3 or mx3. I know it’s faster but can it handle the same treatment as the talarias and Surron. I’m planning on buying a emoto soon, but fire video man
What do you mean by “same treatment” exactly? I have both bikes and this handles off road much better than my Talaria XXX, but the xxx has more aftermarket support (hence why I already have an upgraded battery and controller on that bike.) I also had a Surron light bee X recently and just like how this bike performs better in stock form. This bike has its shortcomings such as the battery life everyone seems to be mentioning, but it’s only $3000 and goes 50 mph in stock form.. The talarias have better range, but is that the most important thing for you?
@@PatOutdoors By same treatment I meant the Surron and talaria have had much more abuse since the have been out longer and we know they can take a beating, but since the rawr has been out for a couple of months it hasn’t had the same abuse that the Ron and talaria have. Even though it’s faster stock there could be a lot of problems that we don’t know yet and the price might be cheap for a reason yk.
@@Short_Clipzv1 Very true, which is why it’s important for all of us who own it to share as much info as we can as problems come up
@@Short_Clipzv1 the talaria sting has a gearbox far superior to the other bikes that all use jackshafts
It fried the controller they're warnings all over the internet pat. Rawrr says they're working on it but do not hook to the app with the mantis x

Yeah I’m not too happy about what I did, but now I know 😞
@PatOutdoors Trial and error brother its how we learn
Looks good! Thanks for posting this video.
My electric Torqueedo outboard motor is silent underway
Electric sucks and it's very dangerous. Have you seen the videos of them catching fire. That lake wouldn't be able to put the fire out. A guy carrying a battery in an elevator to his apartment for charging he's now burnt toast and dead. A Tesla went in a lake and it burned for hours under water dead fish popping up everywhere. If you like electric it's ok but don't tell me it's helping the environment because it's not it's worse on the environment.
I don’t remember saying anything about helping the environment.. I just liked that it was quiet
1200 W / 746 W = 1.6 HP. There's no way that can be 5 HP, as it would need to be 3.7 kW.
@@paullangford8179 I answered this in the video. It’s not even 2 HP, but it scoots ok
Prop horsepower is defined by torque times RPM. The formula for HP is simply (Torque x RPM)/5252. If you have an engine that's rated for 5 horsepower but its torque drops off dramatically as the RPM increases it delivers less than 5 horsepower. Is there anything in the paperwork that would tell you the electric motor's torque and RPM?
That would be perfect for a sailboat.
Random question Can I run a 72volt motor (kunray) on a 48Volt battery ? I was send out the wrong motor I had ordered a 48v 🤦🏻♂️ now I’m stuck with it for now
Does it say what wattage the motor is rated for? It's good thing if you were sent the higher watt motor for the lower price.. gives you room to upgrade in the future. The controller is key - a 72V controller WILL NOT run on anything other than a 72V battery. Why don't you just return your kit to whoever you bought it from?
@@PatOutdoors motor rated at 3000W… and the controller says NOMINAL VOLTAGE RATED 3000w 48V-72V under voltage 42V I’d have to look into returning policy I think I have like 30 days to return …any 72 volt battery I recommend budge friendly since I already bought a brand new 48V battery 🔋 🤦🏻♂️ 😆….and thank you for the fast reply 🙏🏼
Please do a long term test video of the motor. Interesting to know how many hours it will last
