The nail knot is the best knot for tying backing to fly line for its strength and its ability to slide through your rod guides effortlessly when you hook that fish of a lifetime. There are many ways to tie thi...

EPIC DAY of Coho Salmon and Steelhead Fishing!!!
To cool bro! I got a 15 pounder this morning! I didn’t forget my net either!!! lol 🕷️
Bro go shit in the woods… shit in a water way..
Will be there in two weeks fishing the area for the first time. I’ve fished just about everywhere in Michigan, but this will be the first time fishing the Betsie and Platte River basins for the first time.
Nice video man👍🏻
Do you leave it on the bottom and give it line or up off bottom a few feet? Ty
Yes
I'll give you a like for the video, but I wanted to see you measure it,record the tag info and let it go. This is how we learn about them. I've tagged hundreds of fish and have had lots recaptured and even have one I tagged caught in front of me a year after I caught it. If you really need food then keep it, but still send the capture details into the research guy's. You are allowed to keep tagged fish if in the legal size range but it's better for all fishing people to just measure, record location and date, then release them if possible.
Nothing obvious gets past me... but you'd find a net very helpful.
How many feet leader (and what pound test) do you tie to your stringer rig? Or do you just tie the wire straight on the braid?
P R O M O S M ❣️
Yessir! Miss fishing with you brother!
Take me with you next time ;) lol
You’re coming every day this year beautiful!
Ughhh this is so cool!!!!!!
You’re so cool
😮
😊
love the leader grad, but something about grabbing them by the face with nothing left in your arms.
100% agree… this was a tournament day so we were only allowed video/photo footage of leader grabs and quick release of the fish. For clients I do my best to grab all faces!
im hoping one day i get one that goes toward the beach so i can get off the boat and get in the water . great footage, thank you@@FishingwithFrankie
@@randomjackson574you’ll get one this year! It has a lot to do with the person driving the boat. You can always wear them out toward the beach and slowly move in as you go for the face grab then revive them to shore… the bigger the fish the harder it is to accomplish this! When you do get one to the beach lmk!!!
it will happen sometime. my guide buddy up in st pete area just let me know he is going scouting pretty quick invited me to go, cant say no to that. no hurry to get a release on the beach, if it happens let it happen organically. im pretty happy with a hookup or two, leader is a bonus, boatside release is something that you cant describe. been fishing my whole life, nothing burns like a poon.@@FishingwithFrankie
@@randomjackson574 facts! Keep me posted! They will be there soon! My season doesn’t start til the end of April, I’m jealous you’re getting on them before me!!
Mad impressive. Congrats on the catch 🫡
Clients are always stoked to jump in and revive these beautiful fish
Omg this is my dream fish
Get out there and catch one! I know some people 😂
no better feeling fishing in the world. sight fishing poon.
Got addicted myself, only reason why I even fish for a living 😂
best poon spot around, been there, unreal.
It’s a great spot, at least when there aren’t 20 boats down the line these days
guess you guys messed that spot up@@FishingwithFrankie
@@randomjackson574 you ain’t kidding 😂
What time of year is this? What’s the season
Fall and spring when the water temps fall and rise are best. They are always there though year round
size hook 🪝 size
Size 2 for both. The bigger for bigger fish but you sacrifice visibility. Whether I’m trolling, inshore or tarpon fishing I always go with the smallest I can get away with. I’d rather get bits and lose fish than not get bites at all. Same holds true ti leader size
جيييد
Good excellent
Thank you
Just stumbled on this. What an epic day! What month was it filmed?
This was in the spring, early April-ish
How come a jhook instead of a circle hook?
J hook bc the bait is moving. Circle hooks are best for still or drifting baits, j hooks are best for trolling especially kings. You’re not trying to hook a king in the corner of the mouth, you want to hook them anywhere on the face. They often “greyhound” baits, any hook (j hook or trebles) you can get in them is a win!
I know this is a two year old video but name dropping a small river and literally taking a shit in the river? Absolutely no respect. If you wonder why locals don’t like weekend warriors this is why.
Fishing for a living is a far cry from a weekend warrior, especially someone who guides. Thanks for the comment though
just curious if yall fish the MBARA Kingfish Tournament in Mexico Beach? me, my dad, brother, and pawpaw fished it this year and got 3rd in the recreational division. thanks for the Rig tips, looking to start catching the big ones.
I don’t, I focus my fishing career mostly on tarpon fishing. I have fished many kingfish tournaments though. Speaking of which I haven’t made a video in quite some time. I’m glad these tips are helping people, I appreciate the comment. Most importantly it’s very cool fishing brings you and your family together, that’s awesome!!!
can you do an fg knot instead of swivel?
Depends on the rig. 99.99% of the time I used line to line like an fg knot BUT if I’m using a spinner bait, or say anything that spins the line up, I use a swivel to save the braid as it will spin really bad and lose strength and create non stop wind knots
Is that coated 7 strand?
It is
So I don't need to make a loop? Sweet! (New to fly fishing) Thanks for the video
The line to backing connection is so important big game fishing, so us tarpon guides use this knot to make sure the line clears smoothly
When I ran in the circuit in the very early days of SKA, (I’m 63 and you didn’t have to be a millionaire), every crew member where required to have 500 rigs tied before the season.
I love that! Things were quite different back in the day, miss those days myself
Very nice. I use the same rig for Redfish down in South Texas
I love it! That’s really cool!
Was just watching the welcome home celebration of the 87 Twins...when your dad was holding you at the Metrodome, you must've been 3? A Google search later, and here I am... Wow you look like your dad! 😮
Hahahaha! I appreciate that, my dad loves all of y’all from MN! Thanks for the comment
What brige was this because it looks really familiar
Sandkey in Clearwater
Off shore in a flats boat! Bold. I have a 18ft Mako flats boat and I'm always scared lol. What were the winds like?
Pick the right days and you’ll be fine. I always tell offshore guides where I’m at and always have a plb on the boat
What time of year was this?
Spring
Just started following. Love the video.
Welcome aboard! I appreciate it
Your respect for this fishery and other anglers is epic!
Thank you!
Miss these videos. By far the best.
I need to get back in this
Thank you!!!
Say hi to your dad! Love, Jim & Moyra SJU (Tampa)
Will do! Thank you!
Come on, friends, make another fishing video
Definitely need to! Thank you for the support
There’s nothing like just having the boat to pull up right over the fish.
Don’t forget spot lock too 😂
Epic video! Keep up the superb videos!
Appreciate that! We will start coming out with new videos soon!
Next time use your hat push face into it and push tail in it
Awesome Mac Gonzales taught him everything and he isn't the star! Sounds about right!

Your content is so respectful. A++
Thanks!
Curious as to where he came from. My son caught one last year that was tagged almost 2 years prior at 14” when he caught him he was 26.5”.
Wow that’s a lot of growth in a year! I completely forgot to send the tag number in!!!
@@FishingwithFrankie it was two years. I caught another two weeks ago that was tagged three days before I caught him.
Curious where he came from. We tag them here.
I love your thumbnail
Thanks lol
