Happy Birthday Snake!
I couldn't find the original anywhere on UA-cam, so I'm reuploading it to my channel so I have an easier time sending it to friends in a pinch.

Star Trek TNG Riker refuses to help Worf (Better Audio)
Переглядів 198 тис.4 роки тому
Original Clip uploaded by BizarrePower: ua-cam.com/video/NpN3PxuXBFM/v-deo.html From Season 5, Episode 16, Ethics.
I've never considered this episode in my top list, but that's some awesome writing there. Of course it would be in Season 5, the peak season of TNG
I always felt Riker has truly understood Klingon culture as much as Worf has but also the most critical about it with its more question traditions like this one.
if i served on the enterprise, i wouldnt want worf to die, but if it were tasha yar in the same situation, i wouldnt just bring the knife, id do it for her. since the 90's or whenever this show was on the air, i hated her. she was a horrible addition to this show, and i was SO happy when that oily blob killed her.
There's more Star Trek in this scene than in all of Kurtzman's bullshit put together.
Every potential suicide needs a friend like Riker.
You can tell its a space blanket because its got sparkles.
Just an extended version of another denial of Worf's ideas.
Riker just wanted a little boy to kill his father, whoa.
No he didn't. He was saying that, if Worf wanted to go through with this, he has to do it at his son's expense, as a way to prevent Worf from going through
@@saoranachnah-alba723 it was a joke, lol.

What’s funny is that when wolf kills somone else on the ship he gets put on report 😅!
This is why Star Trek is very special to me. I keep revisiting these clips. It encouraged moral debate and thinking. In those days, they had clever writers, as well as actors and actresses.
The events of this episode had a major part in helping Worf become the kind of Klingon he is during DS9, one of many. He honors Klingon tradition, but recognizing his deep unwillingness to be rigid makes him glorious and it’s potentially inspiring. Riker realizes that Worf wanting this is actually him being selfish and hypocritical. If he was really like his people, he wouldn’t even consider Alexander’s youth as a factor, but he does, because Worf is not like other Klingons, in a good way. In the end, he ultimately decides to fight for his life over ending what’s traditionally considered a disgraceful state, so his friends don’t need to be drag into his suffering and his family can grow under his witness as the Son of Mogh and a Klingon. It’s moments like these and his experiences as a Starfleet Officer and a Klingon far from a home where honor is still fickle, with his primary exposure being their legends, that shape Worf into the ultimate Klingon.
I just watched this episode and I loved that Picard immediately understood. I think Beverley Crusher came off completely ridiculous being angry with the other doctor for 'gambling' on a virtually dead man anyways.
Crusher was absolutely ridiculous. I say that as a doctor myself.
wow
this looks amazing
I hope to do a full review of this and Academy as VR ports. Some of the retro level design left me looking at guides as you saw, but overall the story and combat make up for the classic doom like maze level design.
My brother and I used to love playing this game. We played it on GameCube. I’m sure it’s super fun playing it on VR.
I originally played this game on GmeCube as well. If you have a Quest headset or PCVR I encourage you to give this a try.
I'll do it. Then I'll take his wallet.
Murder hobo detected.
They use money 💵💵💵
He still left him the knife though!
I said the same thing, some of the replies I got were good.
@@GreyTidehe's paralyzed
If Riker had been a Christian, he could've just refused to kill Worf on religious grounds, that way there wouldn't have been any crisis of conscience.
I don't think Rick Burman or Gene Roddenberry were really into religion like that, enough to make any of the bridge crew people of faith. Not only that, but Rick Burman was apparently always fighting against this feeling like no good drama could arise from Gene's vision of a future free from conflict. That and the simple explanation doesn't really make for as dramatic a scene. Falling on the faith doesn't evoke the same call to duty or morality as simply asserting one's faith. The faith should be the thing that gives them the strength to make the kinds of arguments Riker is making.
@@GreyTide If you have faith, use it as armor for yourself, not as a weapon against others.
@@GreyTide Gene was a Commie , which explains why he had no connection to Human Nature
@@oolooo Ya, when I was reading about Oberth class starships the other day, I read that the SS tsiachovsky was apparently built at some old USSR place, so it seems like G-Rod simply couldn't keep the commie references out of star trek.
@@GreyTideIt wasn’t Christianity ( I’m Christian btw) but on DS9 Kira was a devout follower of the Prophets.
This is what TNG was all about, I miss shows like that.
They don't make TV like this anymore, that's for sure.
I'd completely agree with Worf here, if it weren't for his son's existence. Your life belongs to you, it is yours to say what you want to do with it, even up to and including suicide. However, the moment you have a child, someone who looks up to you for love and guidance, your life is no longer your own. It is, at least partially, theirs now. You owe it to them. It is theirs by birthright. To rip something like that from the life of a child who has grown to love and care for you. You're not just killing yourself. You're killing a part of them too. The part of yourself that you put inside of them as you nurtured and guided them. Maybe once they've reached adulthood things might change, honestly I haven't taken the time to put thought into it, but while your actions still have direct absolute control over them, suicide ceases to be a morally acceptable option.
Out of all the comments I can't remember any that focus on the paternal obligation as a primary argument against the circumstances. Maybe my memory is bad but it was interesting to see that opening. I will read the rest of your comment when I have time.
obligation is a good word, I should have used it in a few places, would have more effectively conveyed the point i was trying to make
Wow, I hadn't thought about Alexander at all. I was always angry at Riker for not helping a true friend. I couldn't agree more with Worf, I really felt they should have helped him with what he wanted more than ever, but I had completely forgotten about the kid. It sure does make me think about what is morally right in this kind of situation as I would've felt just like Worf.
Absolutely terrific point and a really well written comment! I couldn’t agree with you more!
Ultimately I do accept that right of self determination, but friends and family have the right, and I'd say obligation, to try and talk you out of it, in case you are simply not in your right mind or haven't fully considered all the options. If your resolve is sound and absolute, then it won't matter and you can go through with your plan.
Riker was cold with it he really grew on me after saving Picard especially
As someone who was Born with ceribolsy i understand where hes coming wanting to die feeling kike kess if a men i do understand...alsi having fully able bodyed people preach to me how life is always sacret ..screw u riker
my dude, seek help.
@@LordUzaki how about mind your business and let people vent
@@dragon22214 My dude, you "vented" in a public UA-cam comment. I refer you back to my original sympathetic comment. "Seek Help".
I know that was a typo, but I'm still trying to figure out how that's flown under the censorship radar and not been deleted yet. 😂😂
Lol at that typo
Riker was a menace and the Klingons loved him for it.
Gak is best served live.
Easy to say when you aren't the one lying on the table.
Worf could have gone the captain Pike route and spoke via beeps.
I suffer from ms,and it’s getting worse ,what worf wanted was not to be like he is ,I’m a entertainer singer ,painter model maker ,the day I can’t use my hands and legs just lay on a bed ,not doing anything for myself,is the day I would want to end it
I hope you live long and prosper.
But worf has friends to help ,I got no one ,just me
@@GreyTide thank you 🙏
@@GreyTide my mum and dad and brother all passed away ,my fionce didn’t want to marry me when I got my wheelchair and my friends left me
