Sailing is Only Half the Adventure - Hidden hike on Road to Hana Maui - Corsair F-31R trimaran
We sailed our Corsair trimaran from Oahu to Maui for the weekend. We drove the Road to Hana and found the most beautiful waterfall hike I've ever come across.
The sailing started intense with sustained winds of 30+ knots and wild short period swell. Just a day later we found ourselves sailing in perfect spinnaker conditions, sledding down waves and riding puffs for miles at time.
We drove the Road to Hana and stumbled into an almost hidden hike (with some directions from a friend). At the entrance we found a guava tree with ripe fruit that I snacked on throughout the hike. We hiked through a tropical forest and thick bamboo to find multiple waterfalls with deep pools perfect for cliff jumping. Absolute paradise.
Feel free to ask questions or DM me if you'd like to know more about the journey.

First time sailors experience Hawaiian trade winds 20 knots+ and surf the swell

Teaching some first time sailors how to surf the Hawaiian swell. The challenge is always getting upwind, but once you’re there, the ride back down is epic. Our Corsair F-31R might as well be a 31ft surfboard. We typically get a 5 knot boost once we drop in. 4ft, wide rolling swell outside Diamond Head (Oahu, HI) this day. The perfect size for a smooth ride downwind. Basic strategy to catch a wa...

Captain Nick and First Mate Dan taking some fun people out for a ride with the a-symmetrical spinnaker (aka Kite). It’s always fun getting people involved with the spinnaker launch who have never soon one. 1. Pre-feed the tack 2. Hoist! Like there’s no tomorrow 3. Sheet! 4. Douse the Jib 5. Run with the waves 😎 Prior to launching the kite make sure all lines are rigged correctly (tack, halyard,...
Fun times sailing on Honu the Trimaran

Sail, snorkel, relax and take in the sights. Our Corsair F-31 trimaran is one of the fastest sailboats in the Hawaiian islands. Day trips, or inter-island, we get there in style. Based out of Kewalo Basin Harbor in Honolulu.
Pacific crossing on a Corsair Trimaran
Переглядів 82 тис.4 роки тому
Summer of 2019 I set out with my three crew mates to Deliver my F-31 trimaran to Hawaii. 12 wet, wild, exhausting days.
I had a 26ft ply Nichol in Oz back in 80's. Best speed was 12 knots but lived and cruise 1000k from Cooktown to Sydney for a year - miss that boat still
epic and nice work!
🤩thats what sailing looks like
12 days?! Just wow!!
No, no, no. This is an advertisement, noninformational, infomercial. Semicute music, otherwise worthless. Yuck, ick. How about some real information?
I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the video. I'm a real person and I read the comments. What would you like to see or know about my pacific crossing?
@@CruisetheIsland your clips and editing are great, perhaps you could tell us some stories about challenges you encountered or what you learned about your F-31.
@@i_accept_all_cookies Maybe you could just go to another channel… 🙄
@@jonathanalea I'll stay or go where I please
Wow that is blue water sailing, or Racing......
We left Catalina Island the same day the transpacific ocean race started. We weren’t racing but it was fun to have the transpacific fleet fleet around us for comparison. Our crossing took almost 12 days exactly. We always weighed safety over performance; Reefing sails at night and only flying spinnaker in comfortable weather.
Wow. This is the stuff of bucket lists. So cool!! Keep posting.
Looks incredible! Fast sailing and stunning location.
12 days is hauling butt.
How much can you store in the floaters?
Yeah!!!
Sick trip man!
What speeds do you get up to on these?
On my F28R, your advised not to sail faster than 32 Kt. Could be faster for a F31.
20 knots there is 40 knots on mainland...
Nice rig! Is this the 1999 31R that was for sale a while back at 180 marine in Ventura?
No, it's a 2003. I picked it up in Connecticut, trailered to her to San Diego, then Sailed to Hawaii. There's a good selection of boats out there if you're willing to make the drive.
Awesome stuff. What camera is that to get such cool footage?
Insta360 One R. The simplicity of their editing software is what makes this camera worth the money.
Looks like so much fun!
Such a fun day!!!
Awesome video, we just purchased a 2020 Corsair 880 Sport, absolutely love and its wicked fast, our home base is Key Largo, Florida...
How did it handle in 6+ seas
Terrible.
Incredible! I look forward to seeing more, and to traveling again.
Interesting camera effects, unusual perspective on videoing sailing 👍🏼

Performance Sailing .... EXCUSIONS? not sure what that means...
Good catch. It should say "Excursions", haha. I hope you enjoyed the rest of the video.
Please share more info about your journey across the pacific.. i got an F-Boat Too but there is no too much info about this boats in open ocean.
I will be getting more information up soon. It was a challenging crossing for sure. The wind and ocean swell didn't relent but the boat perservered. Mahalo!
I'm pretty sure the 31' were made for ocean crossings.. should be fine.

Seems a 30’ ish is his the go, still legally trailered without a permit (I think one model goes 9’.6”’ wide) Looking atm, mono nice but slooow and cats just nah.
My thought exactly! Corsair created something special with the folding system and any bigger than the F-31 makes an extra wide load on the roads.
@@CruisetheIsland It was Ian Farrier's folding system and boat design. RIP Ian. F-9A owner/builder here.
It’s funny how every video you see where a tri is passing mono’s as if they’ve stopped are all F9a’s... You can’t waterski behind a cat or mono;)
Why, what's wrong with cats?
@@ianrkav nothing, tri’s in general, are faster. Still i’d take a marsaudon over a tri.
Just found your channel, looks like you just started out, so I subscribed 👍🏼How about a video of your plans? how far across the pacific do you plan to go? (I'm on the other side of the pacific)
Enjoyed that ! Thanks for sharing. Love me some F Boats !
Nice. Keep it coming. Fellow C-31uc owner.
