    Hope any of these are helpful - These are the rules I'm going to follow: 1. One project at a time. (How many projects do you have unfinished? That's why you don't have the time to finish anything.) 2. Finish your project. 3. Finish your project. ( I KNOW IT'S ON THE LIST TWICE, If true see: #7) 4. Set deadlines 5. Stay organized and make lists of what needs done 6. Test your game/Fix/REPEAT/YOU Will Find BUGS 7. Finish Your Project (I can't understate this) 8. Take a break when you need it. But only if you've earned it. 9. Reward yourself for reaching milestones. (I get to play Donkey Kong Country SNES after completing my work for the day.) 10. Even though at the end of the day we are either doing this for business or pleasure, it's really just a game. So don't take it too serious, unless you're truly passionate. - Happy Development to Everyone! 👍✨💻

    Are people actually making racing games with GB Studio? I thought it couldn't, yet. TIR3 (Tire tracks logo) would be even better with actual racing shown. It could have Original Manager mode, Arcade mode with player input controlling the cars (standard racing),and Simulation mode is a blend of both modes (player controls cars but also manages the garage, upgrades, and repairs the cars)

    Puzzle mode should have you working as a sketch artist at different crime scenes. Keep the mechanics. Add more locations, and story behind each crime. After so many crimes solved, you should rank up to the next promotion. Also the last crime you sketch should implicate you as the killer, as a twist. 👍

    Thank you for the great videos and lessons on this fascinating program! you are an incredibly smart person, but for all the less bright ones like me, I recommend investing a very modest amount in the program pyxel edit for creating tilesets. i did one tileset project for the real NES system and i can't imagine working on it in gimp or photoshop, when every tile in memory at some point becomes a fight for survival. it went much faster, even after many years of working in photoshop. if anyone worked on tilesets in pyxel edit i'm curious about your opinion? all the best good man and thanks for your time and passion!

    The GB Studio limit for unique tiles lies at 192. So wouldn't it be better to create for forest, beach, city or cave zones an own tileset? Because it kinda feels like as if it would be enough to just work with one tileset the entire game, but that would be pretty limiting, right? Thanks for the tutorial. Have you ever considered trying to make a tutorial on how to make a top-down platformer in GB Studio?

      What's an example of a top down platformer?

      @@RobertDoman Something like what they did with Gremlins 2: The New Batch for the NES. I imagine simulating a "jump" would be fairly straightforward, but it would also be necessary for the player to be able to bypass obstacles that would normally harm them and to be able to jump anytime and anywhere.

      @@Graywyck I could forsee that being quite easy to achieve but also having a lot of issues to work through I would make a tutorial for you if I were to make a game like it!

    Great talk through, i like your points about strategising your time. That not all ideas are worth ones time if it doesnt light the passion.

      Exactly yeah, no good powering through if you don't enjoy it and no body will want to play it!

    First time youtube recommended your video. I feel like it would be great for you to talk about the game concept a little bit before you rush into the feedback you’ve received. For those watching it could be great to know what the game is all about. Thanks for putting this together.

    I want to know how you would do the next step in an rpg, target selecting for multiple enemies. Seeing as you can't pass actors as variables, it seems like you would need to copy the entire code again just to use the second enemy stats.

    • @RobertDoman
      @RobertDoman Місяць тому

      @@covereye5731 a technique I used in Take It Racing 2 was to have a set of variables that are used like proxy's. The proxy's variables are set to each racer's stats one by one. This way like you said, you don't need to copy the entire code again, you can just update the proxy variable to the correct racer's stat and go through it again. Hope that makes sense?

      @@RobertDoman Hey thanks for the reply. I think you are saying decide between and then funnel EnemyHP-A or EnemyHP-B into a generic enemyHP that you then run through. But at some point you have to bring the data back up, for example to update the correct sprite and figure out which EnemyHP you just handled right? The only thing I can think of is an activeEnemy variable with flags associating each of them.

    • @RobertDoman
      @RobertDoman Місяць тому

      @@covereye5731 Exactly, you got me! To trigger things to happen, part of your code can be to check if something needs updating, and add flags or set a variable like you said to call on later. EnemyEvent-A, EnemyEvent-B etc, I think you have figured it out, you just need to test it!

    Maybe it becomes something like you flash the final image on screen for short (hard) to long (easy) and then ask the player to recreate it. Somewhat like a police sketch from memory?

    • @RobertDoman
      @RobertDoman Місяць тому

      Yeah! Like a recall test. This could be really good for some players, but very frustrating for others

    I think maybe you drop the Puzzle mode and replace it with a Click and Point Story Mode where you go around collecting information to build an image with. Maybe take elements from Clue (Cluedo) that lets you replay it a bit better while having a familiar structure each time.

      Very interesting idea, I'll definitely research some cluedo mechanics! I also like the idea of the point and click. Story instead of puzzle could be cool, thank you!
