@Michael.Hunt.14-52 I'm a old school radiotradesman, I've done quite a few Thks for the feedback
Thanks for your video. My Humax 1100 Freesat pvr went completely dead with no standby light and no hdd action. Tried your method after ordering some liquid flux. Didn't work at first, so cranked up the heat on the air gun and left it a bit longer - success!! Thank you again.
@PeterJackson-r7p no worries, I've fixed a lot of odd ones over my time Glad a did a video on this Thks for your comments
Hi insightful video, I have similar issues with mine however the track that runs under R906 is burned out and the resistor R906 is dead, I am unable to read the text on it as it is too damaged, you wouldn't happen to have its value? Thanks
@atlaspud4999 I can fing out easy for you , ill look for you, it's a 200 ohm smd
@atlaspud4999 is yours a atx version power supply? I pulled apart a working xbox that I modified in 2004, a cust recently gave it to me, it's got the original At power connection, I got more just got to locate them, as when I sold my shop I had lots if parts in storage Thks Dave
@atlaspud4999 ok. Pulled another Atx version down, R906 is 200 ohm, if its burnt check for shorts or faulty components off that branch Hope this helps you Dave Ps it's a smd resistor
@@SuperDavidcass thanks Dave, my supply is the delta dpsn 96ap-1 12 pin. We have the same one here in australia that you guys had. 200 ohm makes sense from pictures I could find but they were always blurry for that component so it was hard to be sure, I found some other components downstream of it damaged as well but could luckily read those ones. Thank you very much for taking the time to have a look.
@atlaspud4999 I'm in Australia lol, any more help I'm here
Thanks, can replace speaker of s8 with other Samsung middle range phone like a5??
@miladirani4313 you can easily replace tge s8, s9 speaker has to be that model Thks dave
Thanks you, you saved me some time and moneys with this video, for me was a loosen contact inside the lamp and wouldn't make contact unless I would play with it.
hi dave great video and knowledge how to convert a xbox og v1.6 220v to 120v for us?
Ok, I do a video on it
@@SuperDavidcass Hi dave great itll be a very usefull one view your videos in Canada
My kinda music in the background
excellent work, The flux you're using looks a lot greasy than it is supposed to be. thanks for sharing this video. cheers.
Thanks 👍
Hey I've soldered for well over 30 years, the flux looks heavy but it's light Thks Dave
Hi, great video.👍 Can I ask have you repaired any Humax HDR 1010s Freesat boxes the white version ? Mine no longer turns on an no standby light but it does continuously click which sounds like a hdd but that is unplugged an noise seem to be coming from the infrared socket as red light flickers on an off at the same time as the clicking but doesn’t power up. Could it be a fail capacitor?
Could be low voltage issues which us caps, need to check with a meter, We haven't done any of the white yet Thk Dave
can I replace 1n60b with a FQU1N60C ? I cannot understand what are the differences
Idd say same, you can look up the specs for each using datasheercatalog website Thks Dave
@@SuperDavidcass on datasheets the FQU1N60C has lower current values: drain current 1A vs 1.4A, 28W power dissipation vs 35W and a Rds of 9.3 vs 7 Ohm
Its always safe to use a higher rated device not lower Thk Dave's Ps, make sure same package, some may be fully insulated, others not
Hi Dave, changed all the components you have mentioned and also D902 that was shorted (replaced with a bigger 1N5408) but still nothing. Any hints on what can I check?
thank you very much for this very educational video! I'll find it just because today my xbox died (hear a pop), inspection of psu and seen burned R902 so probably same defect! I'll.going to replace resistors, zener and transistors and let you know if come back to life!
How did it work out?
@@kenken7120no way out, I've wrote another comment here... I don't know what didn't work unfortunately
I'm a beginner at this and I have an XBOX which I'm pretty sure I shorted somehow. Are there safer reliable ways for checking continuity rather than plugging it into the wall?
Can just run the meter over looking for shorts, however it's not efficient method, it's ok to test bridge rectifier etc, any point after the main chopper transformer is safe as low voltages, I'd say you could tape up the primary cct so you can't access the Ac voltages Thks Dave
Also, you don't have your meter on Ohms when power is connected, it's set to read voltages, you can damage your multimeter Thks Dave
@@SuperDavidcass thank you
Brilliant instructions mate. I just fixed my Humax 1100S following your guidance. Thank you
So what if u got standby n main 12v but only until a load is pulled and it falls off n shuts down?
Idd say other mainboard problems, idd say idd would try another external 12 volt supply to see if that holds, if it gets loaded down its mainboard, else the 12 volt power supply in th xbox isn't able to sustain current flow so it's the power supplybin the xbox still Thks Dave
Hi great tutorial. Yours is the best I have seen. My Xbox clicks when I push on button and does not turn on. Can i also use the omega setting and check each component to see if there is resistance?
Yes no problem, just takes a little practice 😉
anyone know whats up with the white gunk?

Cool. The power supply you have is a bit different looking than the U.S. spec one, so recognizing the components between the two is a bit confusing. I know you don’t endorse just anyone tackling repairs on these power supplies, so I don’t blame you if you don’t answer my question. Looks like you have a white jumper wire going across the filter capacitor to the green fuse or resistor where mine has a grey, square resistor or capacitor that says 250vac. 310vac, .47 uf. It doesn’t look burnt on the bottom. Anyway, my question is… How does discharging the capacitor with the resistor not damage it; even though the power is disconnected? Thank you!
@@sidewaysonhighways no damage, the cap needs a discharge path, voltage drops across the resistor fine.
Useful. Thank you!
What can i use as a replacement transistor at the first heat sink, i accidentally blew mine up, power supply is the same one you are working on, great video if you have downer boards
Aliexpress.com for parts If you still need I can check replacement
The humexs are all the same and clearly made to die this way, did all this and its all back alive... Also fitted a USB fan to inside of it...
These humex units are exspensive and this knowledge will be passed mate.. nice work
If power supply unit has failed in some device, Can we use a 230v to 12v SMPS unit and then use buck or boost converters to get the required output voltage to that device?
Is there any chance you could help convert a 220v to 110v for use in NTSC regions? I know it’s possible, but don’t have a clue on what parts to swap out.
good job mate you show your skills nice, i'm trying to increase my knowledge thanks
Great video. I have a very similar PSU (Delta DPSN-96AP-1) that was completely burnout. I've replaced the burned components, but each time I connect the PSU, the R901 resistor (fusible resistor) opens up, and I cannot find the problem...This is way to complex....and I cannot even find a schematic for the PSU, so I will just replace it....
You got a short other side of the resistor, I don't need a schematic cause I'm a Television tech and have fixed thousands of power supply's, so I'm used to it , double check diodes Thks Dave
Its got a short other side of that resistor
Does this need to be Rosin or will any Liquid flux do?
Any liquid, water like flux so it flushes right under the chip
How do i know what failed in my xbox? My xbox immediatelly after the white light turns on turns itself off help.
Is 300 volts too much for this Xbox?
Input ac or dc reading on main filter cap ?
Thank you this video is very helpful
If you checked the voltage on the large capacitor as you did at 6:00 and it had a voltage lower than expected, but did have a voltage, what would you test next?
I would check dc voltage on chopper transistor
@@SuperDavidcass Ok I think I have that solved, but now my 12v rail is fluctuating between 7 and 8 volts. I've tried replacing the capacitors and checked the resistors, do you think it would be the transistors?
Got the same problem with a xbox. Already took a look at the board and I spotted an area that looks like a burn mark next to a soldering joint that seemed cracked. I re-did the solder joint and a few next to it and cleaned up the area ... still, no power.
You need to measure voltages to see where the cct stops and starts
I have an HP pavilion 21 All-in-one with a Pentium CPU, I tried to install a new CPU i5 but got no signal for some time, I then reset the CMOS Bios [even replacing the battery] and booted it up with one RAM stick installed but still no signal, and so I switched back the CPU [to Pentium] and it's still not giving me a signal and the Fans are running at full speed even with new [Grizzly Thermal Paste] cooling paste applied. The PC Auto boots when plugged in the first time and it did at first gave no Ports signal but now I just need the Diplay to show something. I've tried every trick to F8 - F12, to holding esc Key, and even WINDOWS Key+B Key on start-up, but no changes. Is it fixable?
Was it working fine before the CPU swap?
@@SuperDavidcass Totally fine, like a new rumba with the new sticks of 8GB RAM.
Did you manage to get it work again?? I'm having the same issue flashed the bios too nothing 😢
@@osama5444 Nope did some more test and I come to the conclusion the port works, though I need to get a none wirekess keyboard for it to send a proper signal, a cabal keyboard would be in direct contact with no delay... though when I get more money I'm taking it up to Micro Center to get their expertise on the matter. I don't want to damage it anymore then what I've already have. In other news I took almost all of it apart and put it back together for a good clean and for test if some components was damaged or not all seemed to work well and booted up but without a HDMI port I have no direct feed besides them belt in touchscreen. I also need to find the backed-up files to it so I'll have a clean boot, I've had some memory problems prier to the swip and I think the files it tried to unpack may have been too much, and I was not about to wait 24 hours for a startup boot. On a new computer with hefty specks, Sure, but a old model that fast boots almost each time? I say no thank you. lol At least I had a back up LT.

really nice tutorial ! i'm french and i have understand the tallest lines... my problem is not same on my xbox, but i follow your method to find who is faulty... i hope i will find ! my model is more simple than yours.
The repair method I did I use on most smps . I've fixed hundreds I'm a TV tech
Stupid music, no any see.

Nice video Dave n_n I have a PS4 Slim with a USB port issue. One port works fine, it charges and recognizes devices and the second one I thought was dead so I replaced it. The new USB port has power but does not recognize controllers. Has anyone encountered this issue? I tried rebuilding the data base but that didn't do anything T_T
The way the system works is 5 volts is a standby power that keeps the red light on the power button when you hit the power bouton that sends a signal back to the power supply to fire up the 12 volts that powers the system. If you have no red light that usually means it could be power supply or motherboard. I know from experience if you have a red light and the system powers up then shuts off right away that’s something wrong with the motherboard not the power supply.
Yes, correct, I'm a fully qualified TV technician,
Watch my video on the original xbox power supply rebuild Thks Dave
Unfortunately if you are going to change the port you have to get it out of the pad which you didn’t show which for the most of us is the big challenge.
That's the easy part remove, plenty of videos out there Thks Dave
It's nzrhyno the error code is system error E1O2 10070 C02 8B060008
Ok, anything else comes up on screen, ie Reset, software update
Select troubleshoot option, update this xbox, download update from xbox online using a pc, copy to a usb stick, make sure usb is formated NTFS
Like your videos I just subscribe
Thks it was an early video , it's a bit raw Thks Dave
Great video! I got mine booted up, but after playing for a while I noticed the PSU is starting to heat up quite a bit. It is the secondary side transformer in the middle that heats up the most. Caps after it looked fine, but will try to replace them. Maybe they are a bit dried up, so it causes excess load??
Transformer shouldn't get that warm
@@SuperDavidcass yep. Something is consuming it too much when playing a game. It is fine in idle. No clear idea how to debug.
Hey bud love your work and how you figured how to fix that power supply. I have the same one that doesn’t wanna turn on. Would like to pay you for fixing mine. We’re you located. 👍🏼 would like to hear from you.
I'm in ballarat, you can buy aftermarket power supply's, cheap, we did this one to show that anything can be fixed
where can i find that? thanks@@SuperDavidcass
So why does adding solder on top make the other solder underneath melt easier?
Hey I got a og xbox it flashes orange has no video audio output and hard drive doesn't power on any clue how to fix it?
Were are you based? i have 2 psu that I'm sure are dead they are the Foxlink Model FTPS-0002 REV F was wondering if you can help fix them?
Ballarat, Victoria
Sorry to bother you about a Xbox PSU question. I've got an Xbox which stopped turning on, traced it down to the PSU and the high voltage side. I actually have the 3.3V standby voltage and can see the opto is triggered (PS_ON floating; HV side of the opto is 5V, PS_ON connected to the 3.3V, opto is then ~130mV) but not sure why I'm not getting any output from the low of the transformer. I strongly suspect it might have something to do with the chopper circuit but I'm not sure exactly what is wrong. There is voltage (330V) on the main chopper leg, 532mV on the leg closest to the bulk cap with the last leg showing 0V. Could it be that transistor? Since there is no external signs of a problem but there was essentially some black dust on the main leg. If so, do you know where to get one? Searching for the part number, I couldn't find anything. Thanks for any help.
Give me the part no on it, check for open cct feed resistors, check any diodes for shorts on secondary, 12volt rail comes up from feedback from mainboard power on Thks Dave
Hiya, did you end up getting it fixed? I have a similar problem and checked what Dave told you to check, but still nothing comes on the 12v rail. I realize our two scenarios might be different, but maybe your fix might spark new ideas. Thanks!
So I replaced my motherboard with a whole refurbished board (new caps thermal paste etc. I paid 80$ for it) because my old was eaten through by acid and the power button didnt work. Now with the new board the power button works...but it cycles power every few seconds and then flashes red and green. Can a power supply unit thats going bad cause the system failure lights to appear?
Ho, I know why, the eeprom chip on board is locked to the hdd, have to swap eeproms over should fix this, same happens if you swap hdd around. Another way is to replaced the hdd with a new hdd and a modchip Thks Dave In other terms you should of got the motherboard with the matching locked hdd
@@SuperDavidcass well it came with a hard drive that was already paired with the motherboard though. Could a faulty PSU cause the system failure (red and green lights) as well? I scraped off some white adhesive on my power supply and noticed a capacitor was bulging.
@TheDekuScrub no idd say it's hdd not paired, more likely, it's a fast job to use old hdd, swap thec8 leg eeprom chip over from old board
@@SuperDavidcass Hmmm alrighty I will try that thanks 🙏🏻 I already ordered a refurbished psu 🤦 all good though needs replacing anyways
@@SuperDavidcass what side of board is that on? I have the 1.4/1.5 focus revision
what have you done?
I thought it was straight forward, using the wrong ps3 power supply to test if power supply or mainboard is the problem
usually IC dda001ag is broken
