As most of the UK was given an early Christmas present this week with the arrival of some snow fall, I thought I would make the most of the fresh power and get out on the bike. Having never properly ridden in snow I had no idea just how much fun it would turn out to be especially as there would be very few people out and about which made for the most peaceful and calm atmosphere.

    My air shock on my ‘21 Kenevo is finished. How hard do you really have to be riding to snap a coil shock piston rod? I’m not getting big air anymore, but want long lasting comfort.

      I have no idea. Unfortunately it seems the frame design of the Kenevo isn't kind on shocks so regardless of the type/brand i'd want to keep a spare just to be sure.

      Thanks mate. So far so good. Just done two 2 day trips within a week using the Bluetti for Max fan, lights, charging phones and camera's etc. Used 14% charge in total. I think at some point solar would be nice but I am currently yet to try topping up from the 12v socket on the van so will see how that works out. The main reason for choosing this option was simplicity.

    A lot of the “drag noise” simply comes from the strain on the idler pulley from that 90° angle. Also if it gets dirty at all, it will exacerbate that noise. Keep it clean and it will be fairly quiet. I also removed the lower pulley and added the Cascade Components Guid/bashguard. Less teeth contact, but it hasn’t been an issue and is much quieter.

    • @4KMTBRider
      @4KMTBRider 11 місяців тому

      Thanks for the info, the pulley was much better if you kept it clean as you said and greased often. I never really had many issues with it to be fair but I do like a quiet bike and the idler pulley/guide is another complication. There's no doubt about how capable the high pivot bikes are though!

    Are you still using the air shock now? I just got a kenevo and it came with a fox DHX2 coil that instantly blew, either that or it just has stupidly light compression damping! LOL. I switched it for a Rockshox super deluxe ultimate coil and it feels fantastic. I don't find I'm bottoming out hard all that much either, I run a 500lb spring (i'm 84kg) and I do use all the travel up frequently but certainly not clapping the back end out. The rockshox coil is a 65mm stroke (stock is 62.5mm) so gives the bike almost 190mm travel.

    • @4KMTBRider
      @4KMTBRider Рік тому

      I have now sold the bike but continued to use the air shock up until the sale. I just found the air shock was more suited to the type of riding that I do mostly. Sounds like you tried a few different options and I think that's the best way to find out what works best for you. I honestly think that one of the newer type coil shocks with the hydraulic bottom out would be ideal for this bike. I think the new rockshox coil has it and also the EXT coil shocks. Might be worth considering if you do have bottom out issues in the future.

      Not sure if you’ve got yourself sorted now but I just bought one yesterday in the Chain Reaction Administration sale for £699. Pay by credit card and your purchase is protected, but I’ve ordered some other stuff from them too and they were delivered on time as promised. I’ve gone the Scout 290 Race, which is the same bike, slightly larger frame and 29 wheels. Might be worth a punt if you’re still looking.

    Just bought a 2022 scout Medium size I’m 5ft 8 and im wondering if it’s the correct size? What size is your and how tall are you?

    • @4KMTBRider
      @4KMTBRider Рік тому

      I am 5'11 and have a size large. Do you think the bike to too small or too large for you? Bar roll, bar rise, stem length, saddle rail position, stem spacing are all things that can be slightly adjusted to help with fit and worth trying out to make things a bit more comfortable in terms of fit.

      Thanks 👍 If this was my only bike I would have probably gone for 29" but the 27.5" was the only one available at the price I payed so that influenced my choice the most. 29" wheels would make the bike even more capable so worth considering.

    Is 1/4 the best size for most cables? Is there a smaller option? (I am on a road bike)

    • @4KMTBRider
      @4KMTBRider Рік тому

      There might be a smaller option, this was all I could find at the time and it is a bit bigger than ideal. My current Nukeproof frame has small cable entry/exit ports so this method won't work as there just isn't enough clearance. Just something to be aware of and worth checking first.
