Ryobi Combi Unit Wrong fuel pipe fitted and other problems
Переглядів 9214 годин тому
Hi folks. I work on a lot of stuff others won’t. Ryobi in the UK is one of them. This customer came in saying it stopped working while they were using it. On first inspection, I noticed the fuel pipes that had been fitted, and in front of the customer showed them the problems and gave them a possible repair cost. I then found other problems and rectified them and informed the customer. Fuel pip...
Diagnosing a Stihl 4 mix that has dropped the exhaust valve head
Переглядів 211День тому
Hi Folks. Please watch till the end. I added a bit after having an idea. I’ve come across this problem a few times. The exhaust valve suffers as it doesn’t get lube or cooling from the fuel coming in, so can get really hot, especially if it’s not serviced and the valve clearances haven’t been checked. It could be a case that a 4 mix comes in as it’s hard to start and the exhaust valve clearance...
Diagnosing a blocked 2 stroke exhaust on this Stihl
Переглядів 30714 днів тому
Hi Folks. If a 2 stroke engine won’t rev, it normally requires a carb tune, possibly a spark plug or air filter replacing, and it then runs ok 2 strokes are different to 4 strokes, and a bit of back pressure helps 2 strokes, where 4 strokes prefers a free flowing exhaust. I had a Yamaha RD350 YPVS in the 90’s and it had a device to restrict the exhaust at low rpm. The YPVS (Yamaha Power Valve S...

What's inside Stihl 4 mix engine
Переглядів 181Місяць тому
Hi Folks. This is a strip down Vid of a Stihl 4 mix engine I recorded a while ago, hence the long beard. The Stihl 4 mix engine is an interesting piece of engineering, but it has its problems. If the valve clearance isn’t 10 thou, it’s hard to pull over as those little valves don’t open up enough, especially the exhaust valve to let free flow of fuel in to the bore after it’s circulated around ...
Air filter talk
Переглядів 71Місяць тому
Hi Folks. Air filters are important on your machinery as it removes contaminants entering the engine and acting like grit which will wear out your barrel and pistol. To oil a foam filter, I put it in a large enough plastic bag, give it a few good squirts from my oil can over both sides and scrunch it until I think it’s absorbed the oil. The genuine Briggs flat pre filter actually says “Do Not O...
Don't tip it the wrong way
Переглядів 67Місяць тому
This was filmed on my phone. Do not tip mowers with oil in them so the spark plug is facing down. Oil will seep past the piston and it could hydro lock the piston, or pump it into the exhaust and then this happens. Only thing to do is run it until it stops smoking, or take the exhaust off and clean it out. Put it on its side with the carb facing upwards, or vertical on a bench.
It won't start after I've pressed that button

Hi folks. I did a vid on pressing a button on the throttle control when starting from cold, but if it doesn’t open the throttle, it won’t help starting. This is the video link. ua-cam.com/video/iFfDKa5KJ4g/v-deo.html This vid explains what to check if it doesn’t start.
Hilti Disc cutter shock
Переглядів 84Місяць тому
Hi Folks. This Hilti Disc cutter came in for a simple repair that I could not do. I couldn’t buy the part needed as Hilti don’t sell parts. This Hilti Disc cutter is £1,300 new (as of October 2024), compared to a Stihl at about £900. I could have tried to get a cable made, but I suspect it would have not fitted properly. #smallengine, #hilti, #Discutter, #worktools, #bacon
Belle Mixer Capacitor replacement
Переглядів 1682 місяці тому
Hi Folks. This is a vid about changing a simple capacitor on a Belle mixer as it stopped the mixer from starting, unless it was given a push. I found after talking to the customer, that they loaded it first with a mix, then turned it on. This probably overloaded the capacitor causing it to blow. Capacitors can blow as I’ve replace one in a small air compressor that was left outside, so maybe so...

Honda Pull mech shaft removal custom tool
Переглядів 662 місяці тому
Hi Folks. Often the shaft comes out when undoing the 3 nuts that hold the pull mech on top of the fuel tank on Honda and other engines I’ve worked on. I've tried using other ways to grip the shaft, but this is the best way I’ve found. I ground the head flat so the indentation on the brake spanner, are gone, so it adds more area to grip the 10mm head better, as it is stuck. Sometimes you might h...

Mountfield Stiga mower wont start problem
Hi there do you do a video on how to replace the bearing in the orange cover mine gone manythanks
@chrispaxton5199 hi. I normally just replace the complete cover as it's cheaper than finding the bearing, ordering it, removing the normally exploded bearing and fitting a new one. They are about £30, so if I was to spend 1 hr replacing the bearing, it would cost more than a new cover. The main problem is when the bearing explodes, there is only the outer casing is left, and little to grip. I suppose possibly knocking it in on one side might do it.
Thank you for that great advice I’ll look for new cover
Is there anyway I can send a picture of my bearing and casing to see if you can help me more
@chrispaxton5199 I have a good idea what it would look like, but I'll see if I have a scrapped cover and try to remove it in a video. Thanks for the idea for a video.
Did you put a new pin in? I'm assuming.
@caseytodd7655 the pin is ok, the housing it sits in is worn, so that's why I removed it. Replacing the pin wouldn't solve the problem.
I did comment yesterday but not showing... Good video mate
Good video mate... Lots of good information as always
I try my best from what I know and discover, to pass on to others so they now know (if they discover my videos). 😊
Good one dug mate
Been using filtered used motor oil for 27 years. No problem. Bar getting too hot has more to do with cutting with a dull chain. I have bought one new bar apart from a saw in 27 years and that's because I bent it.
Keep up the good work
Who is dizzy lizzie anyway? Love your vids, helped me a couple of times now👍
Would using a weedburner work for burning of the carbon?
@@brianconnor1810 never tried as I don't own one, but try it out and video it. It'll probably heat it all at once on one side, where my propane torch only heats in a small area at a time and is easier to move around the exhaust. If you know someone with a forge, that'll burn it out also.
Who is dizzy lizzie
I struggling 2’3 months after watch this, I do it with my engine start. Thank you so much.
O my god it’s working wow wow wow
That one thing that's nicer about having the oil in the petrol.
That is true, unless you don't put enough, or to much in it. Had a customer that only put enough 2 stroke oil in the fuel to stop it smoking to much, and it seized the crank bearings on his blower. I bought a strimmer that had a deep red fuel mix (I think they had made a 50:50 mix instead of a 50:1 mix) and it smoked badly and was hard to start until I changed the fuel. A quick carb tune and it ran perfectly.
Hmmm make one maybe?
@themowerman I didn't try to make one as the cable ends are a bit odd, and it might have caused a problem.
Good information mate ...
Great advice Dug mate
Hilti are now basically a hire company. They make it so it has to go to them for repair. Breakers for example they electronically go into "service mode" and won't work. There's no other way to service them than to send it to Hilti. AVOID HILTI!
I had this video pop up. Wow that guy was lucky! A loose bolt caused this. ua-cam.com/users/shorts550LqYWrRSU
had a customer bring me a mower hit a man hole cover lets just say that was the end of that done its last stripe 🤣🤣blade was like a banana and the shaft was too
luvly little tip liked and subbed 👍😃
Excellent, my neighbour took his Stiga engined mount field to a service guy who said the engine was “knackered” and he doesn’t work on “cheap Chinese motors” (thought they were a Polish/Italian brand but never mind). This was the issue, did the paper test. Now working great again! On my neighbours one it appears the main issue was the plastic mount for the cable at the top of the handle had come loose, causing some slack in the cable meaning it’s only actuated the latch 25% of the way, not disconnecting from the kill switch tab.
Nice to see you working on a variety of machines
@rootbrag I work on all sorts of things. It makes a change and variety is the spice of life, so the phrase goes 😁
Yeah, I’ve tried that and it stripped the threads!. If it just pulls out I’ll have a mess about. Wasn’t sure if there was a special way to get it out, didn’t want to damage casing. Thanks for the video it has helped.
@matthewbrown4896 they can be jambed in a bit. I'll try and make a vid about removing it.
Hi, how do you remove the metal nut that holds the long bolt that goes through the housing and bearing that is held in place by a small torx screw. Mine Won’t grad the bolt it’s worn. Looks like it should push out but mine won’t.
@matthewbrown4896 Hi, are you talking about the flattened barrel looking part that the torx screw fits in? I put the little torx screw in the top, and gently pull it out.
Excellent video.
I've gone thru so many of those heads from having problems with the gears which has lead me to switch from stihl long reach to other brands.. helpful vid tho 👍
Spot on. Thanks 👍
There no fun when they come off 😮😮
Great idea Dug mate
Good one dug mate
Is that one of them now hidro mowers lol
You fish it out lake 🤷 don't see how that engine could fill with that much water unless in was submerged in water 🤔🤔🤷🤷🤷
@Grahams-Grass it was under water for a while.
Looks like 0W-0 coming out of that valve cover! That mower has been scuba diving! Call it a Honda Fizzy!
LOL I'm from the era of Yamaha FS1E's (Fizzys) It was full looking at the dipstick of oil and water. Will need a couple of flushes definitely.
Ta for my light mate . Its well handy
Glad you liked it and it's useful 👍
Good video Doug mate
Hi, im trying to take the 2 pinions out of my 145 stihl kombi hedge trimmer head. As the bearings have gone. Ive taken out long bolt and got the 2 circlips out the bottom pinion bu bearings wont come out. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers
Watch this. I hope it helps ua-cam.com/video/_SVMnENL_xU/v-deo.html
@@DugatDizzyLizzys Thanks for reply. I still would like to know how to get the bearings out. Cheers
@chrisallison1706 all I can think of is using a puller set up that pulls on the pinion that pulls out the bearing. Good luck trying. If you can do a vid of what's inside, it would be intresting to see what's inside the gear head. 😁
Do you have a video of how to take the head apart to replace the pinion gear? Thanks
Do you mean the pinion gear that is on the gear head on the side? I haven't made one as it's easier just to fit a new head than strip it down and rebuild it. I might do a strip down video of the side gear head as I have a few that are worn out. Sorry, but good luck finding a video 😁
@@DugatDizzyLizzys I see. I can't see a way to split the head. Where you show the bolt being torqued mine has a metal cover that won't seem to budge. Has what looks like a centre punch mark on the edge.
@dickbarton4101 I've got an earlier silver 135degree head in the workshop, and that just has a bolt and washers. The 145degree head just has a plastic cover over the attaching bolt. Never seen one with a metal cover before.
I'm trying to get the 2 pinion gears out of my 145 Stihl hedge trimmer as the bearings have gone on the top pinion. I've taken long bolt out and managed to get the 2 circles out of the bottom pinion but the bearings won't come out. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers
I've made this video, I hope it helps ua-cam.com/video/_SVMnENL_xU/v-deo.html
OMG you bloody legend i would come and give you an good old bottle of whiskey for this! For days and weeks I’ve tried everything. Changed oil, filters and spark plug nothing worked. Started today to dissassemble the carbonator but couldn’t get the last screw of so i screwed all screws back… THEN i stumbled upon your video and boy did it start! Never worked better than now actually. A massive THANKS for this!🎉 /best regards from Sweden
@bapagrappa4 Glad it helped 😁
If you could mention cost of parts that would be helpful. Cheers
@chrisallison1706 When I made this video, the parts cost £x amount. They have increased in cost since then from the same seller. So, to include prices, it would be a snap shot of prices from this time. Parts numbers and links to parts are better for viewers 😁
Great vid, thanks
Thank you. I almost disassembled the carburetor, but this saved my day.
Hi, this is a great video and I’ve tried following your instructions but I’m pulling my hair out. Might you offer a service to do this exact task please? Or do you know a company that can? Cheers
@scottlittlehales6737 hi, where abouts are you, as I only know local companys and a few people that might do it. The problem is it's not "major brand" so a lot of company's won't touch it. And thank you for liking the video.
@@DugatDizzyLizzys I’m based in the Midlands but would be willing to post.
@scottlittlehales6737 I'm on the South coast. I'm not sure how much it would cost for shipping and I suppose you need assembling of the shaft and tines would be. TBH, I'd rather not get involved in doing postal repairs due to all sorts of possible problems occurring.
@@DugatDizzyLizzys that’s fair enough. Thanks anyway.
@@DugatDizzyLizzys just wanted to say I bought a bearing remover of Amazon for £8 and it’s sorted it and enabled me to complete the job!! Thanks again!
