      @@WesternStringsMusic Your spelling and playing and teaching are perfect. I just love a specific term like that because it suggests a community of musicians developing their own language. Listening again you said "hammer-on pull-offs but I mistakenly heard "Cimarron pull-offs" and thought "What the heck is going on in NM?" Thanks for your teaching.

I’ve worked with students with several different disabilities and I might be able to make playing violin a little easier.

    Hi Jade! I got to study with you last year, 2023, at Camp Bluegrass. You are such an inspiration. I actually have my own mandolin students now and ran across this video while searching about practice videos for the mandolin. Practice not perfection! With you inspiration, I practice EVERYDAY. Arkansas Traveller is one of my warmup excercises now.

    I’ve seen some very good fiddlers with rosin dust caked all over the thing. I don’t understand it. It looks bad, and can’t help the varnish or the tone.

    • @WesternStringsMusic

      I agree, my fiddle is going to be 100 years old next year and the varnish doesn’t need any extra help aging.

    Sometimes we are afraid to show the ugly middle. What I mean by that statement is that sometimes we get so caught up in the *before and the *after results that the ugly, sweaty, progress often gets overlooked. Practice makes permanant, so be very careful about how and why you practice, making sure that your practice is making progress not keeping you stagnant. Thank you for coming to my TED TALK and enjoy my ugly middle ☺️

    I agree, it’s so easy to keep the rosin dust cleaned off. I don’t understand why fiddlers leave it there. You’ll never see a classical violinist with white dust all over their fiddle. It’s just lazy, I guess. Be reminded that black rosin is softer than amber rosin. Your sound post may need adjusting. This determines how much darkness vs brightness you’ll hear. and I dislike steel strings, they might be louder, but tend to be harsh. And as Itzak Perlman said, practice slowly. I think Sam Bush gets his whistely tone by bowing closer to the fingerboard , I could be wrong. Maybe it’s finger pressure? Thanks for your video.

    • @WesternStringsMusic
      @WesternStringsMusic 2 місяці тому

      Thanks for the comment! I’ll keep your suggestions in mind! Sam bush gets the whistle tone by playing quickly with little to no bow pressure.

    Great job, Jade! You have a good video presenter talent! And "Doug Eats Taters!" will do the trick! (Desire, Energy, Tenacity) Willie Nelson came to my mind when you were talking about groove etc. Willie's sings in a way that stands out right away. He has a special kind of voice that sounds a bit like he's talking casually while singing. And the way he sings certain parts and adds extra musical touches makes him different from other singers. He does things like holding onto some notes and smoothly moving between them, which makes his singing special. Would he be a good example of what you're talking about?
