Lewis Family Farm
United Kingdom
Приєднався 22 лип 2016
Our family farm has been un operational for the past nearly 20 years. It has been left to decay and over grow. Huge projects and refurbishment are needed and that’s just the beginning. The aim is to get the farm working again the way it used to be to carry on the memories and future of the family name.
There will be failures & successes, machinery repairs, implement repairs, area clearing, maintenance, machinery operating, construction and most importantly learning new things first hand.
So come join me on this journey of learning along the way and transformation of our old family farm to give it its new lease of life.

Log processing area cleared out and ready to use now all the rubbish is gone. Its a small achievement amongst the many other big things that need sorting on the farm but its a step in the right direction. Still plenty more to get done!

After a few months being set back by the weather and work life i finally decided to bite the bullet and buy an action camera set up to capture some better quality footage of operations ( i hope? ) This vlog is the first time using the new action camera to learn what i can and can't do with it but so far after the trial run i must say its 150X better than using an old iphone to film with!!!!
Why I use starting fluid Ford 4000 tractor cold start #fordtractor #myths #farm #project
Переглядів 7869 місяців тому
Cold starting the ford 4000 takes a lot of cranking as the engine has been worked hard and it breathes very heavily. It doesn’t have the best cylinder compression and easy start is your friend to help get the heat in the cylinders for combustion when the air is cold. Simple 👌🏻

For at least 7 weeks it’s basically been rain after rain after rain. The ground is a boggy mess everywhere. There’s so much that needs to be done but nothing can be done until it dries out!

Smooth sound. Silk.
No filter your pump is buying it all
I now have my grandfathers ‘73 I need to breath life into.
Yo estrené un Ferguson TEF-20 en el año1956 y trabajé con él durante 24 años : Para mí lo considero una verdadera joya en todas sus aplicaciones, muy manejable y seguro.¡Cuánto lo recuerdo!
Why have u stopped doing videos
How many acres do you have there? Is there any arable land? Are you planning on getting live stock? What are you plans for the place?
That's an early gravity fed diesel they're more prone to airlocking
Thank you for sharing that knowledge 👌🏻 im looking forward to getting the repairs done and put it into use again as realising a third useable tractor is definitely needed up there!
@LewisFamilyFarm on mine I got my injectors and pump redone it cose me 350 euro
New camera has good picture. Nice to see the 4000 and topper working.
Thank you 👌🏻 still figuring out the new camera and what I need to do with angles and sound etc. il get there eventually haha
That is turning over slowly and if you just had a car running with jump leads for a couple of minutes it would help the cold Starting and better for the Starter motor 👍Something I do on my Ferguson TEF20 which makes a big difference from cold 😊
Good shout 👍🏻 il remember that for next time. Can’t wait to get to work on the old girl 👌🏻
You can Do the water pump but remove the fan and you Don't need to remove the cowling or the radiator 😊
That’s great advice thanks! I’m sure it’s going to be entertaining to watch when I get to work on it with all the the things I don’t do right haha!
Maryhill Tractor spares is the best for the water pump which is complete and the best price About £25 👍 And fitted no problem 😊
Thanks for the advice 👌🏻
That Ford is getting on now, what is it a. 74, 76 plate? And we all need a bit of help some mornings.
I would need to check serial numbers. The cab is not from the original tractor so the reg plate is irrelevant . But it is 70’s. She’s a good girl when it’s warm enough. A lot of older machines came with systems plumbed in from factory for starting fluid aid but a lot of people don’t seem to understand the concept unfortunately 🙈
I had a 4000 we used as our main loader tractor for 15+ years 18,000 hours when retired , she was very tired , needed a whiff in the mornings to help her , rest of the day she was fine
Wow that’s a good amount of hours! Ours is the same when it’s cold air. Summer time she fires up no problem at all. A lot of people just don’t understand it.
Give me quality over quantity any time 👍
Thank you for the kind words. I Have lots of ideas on content for the farm lined up 👌
It is a great feeling when they start isn't it. My TED20 is on UA-cam starting after 20 years, was a great day. Well done.
I’ve watched a couple of times. Bloody lovely old machines 👌
Use Owatrol oil to preserve it I have on my Tef and it stops further rusting
I will look into that thank you. As when it’s fixed up I want it to remain in its working clothes 👌
Never use Easy start" Knock the bottom end out quicker that a rat up a drain pipe, ! The Engine will quickly get addicted and would soon start knocking the hell out of her, .
You’ll love my latest upload 😂
At least buy a battery for it...don't need a video on taking a battery out of a van
😂
Be careful with that PTO shaft, the yellow shield should cover the whole PTO and it should be clipped so it can’t spin, a lot of people have lost the hands arms and lives by not having the guard connected correctly and put some oil on that saw blade it will help the wood go through smoother.
Great advice thank you 👌
Don't forget to bag your sawdust, throw a shovel full on the fire if you have to pop out for a couple of hours and the fire will still be good when you return. Enjoying the channel very much, long may it continue. 👍
That’s great advice. Unfortunately we don’t have a wood burner but that knowledge will be past on in future. Thank you very much 👌
"Promo sm" 😠
Top man
Hopefully you'll do plenty more videos on the TEF? Great video
Oh yes. Putting the parts that need replacing in my shopping basket right now. Looking forward to filming the repairs / replacement of worn out parts.
👍
I've had a 3910 and a 4610, the 3910 being my favourite. The sound in your cab was ok to me, understood all you said. 👍+ 🔔
Lovely tractors 👌🏻 was brought up around Old Ford’s so have a soft spot for them. Maybe some more to come in the future if I can? Thanks for the encouragement 👌🏻
You are making good progress with the work and things are looking nice and smart. The audio wasn't too bad just a little distorted but I had headphones on and it was fine. 🙂
There’s a long road ahead but bit by bit I will get there. Thank you for the encouraging words 👌🏻
It takes practice mate, the more you do the better they will get don’t worry about it. What part of the country is the farm ?
Learning the ropes at the moment. We are in Hampshire 👍🏻
How big is the farm? My wife comes from a farming family, her father has 165 acres at finchingfield Essex. I used to help him on the farm many moons ago using his old massy 135 tractor, it was lovely helping bring in the harvest.
The old Girl sounds well there, Having her under cover makes a hell of a lot of difference on the starting,! You have a early TEF there and in very tidy all up and in running condition, all she needs is a steam clean" and keep her in her working clothes,! Nice one and thanks for the share, 💯👌👍
Oh yes it’s all to come. Will get her in useable condition soon 👍🏻
Love you bud, looking forward to coming over to help out. Your doing your old man proud 👍
Thanks buddy. Can’t wait to get you over here for the laughs and get some content for your channel. And try get some more work done 😂😂
I was well impressed with the start on the wee tractor well worth spending a few pounds on a good all round service and few seals be good to go and you will enjoy every minute you spend on the seat of it and making memories and old memories will come back to you as well i love my grey Ferguson tractors i use mine as much as i can if you need any advice on anything just ask greatly clad to help
It had a head rebuild when I was around 7 years old by my late father who passed away 3 years ago. I remember watching him doing it on our old farm. As well as other memories of it from years ago. Very sentimental tractor to me. It throws some spits of oil out the exhaust from the piston rings being tired so it needs a bottom end rebuild really. That’s why it struggles to get going due to not quite enough compression in the cylinders to fire right up. That is so nice to hear about your Fergusons.. personally think the old machines are far better than all the modern stuff that I’ve seen over the years. Can’t beat the sound and the smell of them if you know what I mean? And thank you for the offer of your knowledge 👌 that’s very kind of you! No doubt I’m need some experienced advise as this project goes on!
I stumbled upon your channel through watching other farmers in the UK and found your channel interesting so I subscribed right away. I look forward to seeing the evolution of your farm and hope your UA-cam channel grows nicely to get you earning some extra cash to put into the farm.
Thank you so much for your kind words! There’s a lot of work ahead that I want to capture and I hope everyone will enjoy seeing the progress. Even though at the moment it’s not the best quality footage. Every day’s a school day and it will get better.. I think?
I always love watching these videos when they come out. It’s better than all the other channels with brand new tractors and equipment. And it shows the more smaller side to farming. My parents arnt farmers I just grew up on a farm, and my biggest dream is to be a farmer. I do small work for farmers near me with my old tractor and my old equipment and these videos entertain so much me as it’s similar to the stuff I do. Can’t wait to see the progress of the your farm over the next few months and years and good luck to you.
Thank you so much for the encouragement! It’s all a learning curve trying to get the footage that isn’t too boring for others 😂 there’s a hell of a lot more to come. I agree with you. I follow a lot of channels and massive new equipment is great but the old school mechanical stuff with no electronics is where it’s at 👌 can’t beat it! I hope you succeed in your dreams of becoming a farmer! Bit by bit. Rome wasn’t built in a day 👌
Where s the farm
It’s worth getting the jobs sorted it will see you good for a few more years yet
Oh yes I think so. A couple hundred quid and it’s useable again to help with the project 👌
Ok
Where is the farm? Does it have much land?
Oh! The arm remover 4000! 😂 Be safe my friend.
😂😂
Nice clean tidy job done.
Thank you! There’s a long road ahead but will get there eventually 👍
Great videos and best of luck with your projects. Out of interest would you be interested in selling the 2 rear tractor wheels that you have in your barn?
Thank you for the encouragement. At the moment nothing is for sale but there may come a time whilst clearing out that things will be 👍
@LewisFamilyFarm no worries. Keep up.the hard work etc. OK no problem. Thanks 👍
Bit of work cutting it up.
Oh yes… especially with a small cheap chainsaw haha!
Good luck with your plans and hope it all goes well for you like watching your vids please keep them and you have my support
Thank you very much for the support 👍 I will try my best to get the footage out there!
You don’t want to lift your topper too high with the PTO engaged, it will damage it.All you need to do is to clear the ground. Looks like the top link needs lengthening.
Thank you for your advice. I’m pretty new to the agri side of equipment operation so every day is a school day. Much appreciated.
I would love a place like that, lots of potential!
And a hell of a lot of work ahead but will get there eventually 👌
I drove a Ford 4000. And a 4600. Way back when I worked for bees nurserys chester. Done a lot of work. Really great tractors. Done all the repairs. Very easy to do .thanks for the video.
Honestly that 3 cylinder engine makes the best sound I think!?
Press in excess fuel button before trying to start
A pressure wash and then a spray all over with diesel mixed with oil to halt the rust.
Great content. Can I ask what loader is on your ford I have the same 1 on a international 475 stickers are long gone just out of interest. Thanks
The loader on the 56 is a Grays Lynkon. Not sure if that info is any use to you? I couldn’t find any other information on the loader.
4000 going well, engine sounds good 👍
That she does 👌 breathes a little heavy but still plenty of grunt left in her.
She is having a good sound I must Say..She is a good girl . Thanks for the video. Michell Norway 👍😊🚜🚜
Cool
