    The best part about ICON is you can warranty it so easily in just a couple minutes. In my experience the tool truck guys fight you or you have to wait months. I have an old style Snap-on locking flexhead and the tool truck guy has been "trying" to warranty for 6 months. I even called corporate and they said they wouldn't do anything and it had to be warrantied through the franchisee. That being said I still like Snap-on products.

    I would say to start with a standard combination wrench because you don’t have to worry about breaking the ratcheting mechanism and then when using them to break a fastener loose. Get the ratcheting ones when you can later. And for standard, if they can afford it, I think the Mac Precision Torque is a great option. Worry about the FDX, RBRT, etc later.

    Former Snap-on guy here. It can be hard to explain to some guys how you are paying money to make your life easier. Glad you found a good use for it. There are thousands of locations where that is handy but some people just won't listen and like things hard.

      Exactly. To me snap on makes a tool for every job, and quality ones at that. I don’t always agree with the prices but my automotive teacher has all snap on tools and quite a variety and never once couldn’t find the right combo of tools to make any job doable

    I have the shorter version of that ratchet. I actually quite enjoyed it, I put a thick grease in the locking mechanism so it doesn't move so freely, helps keep it locked or unlocked when you want it to be. I don't know why but mine just happens to be waaaay smoother than other D80 ratchets I've used

    Gearwrench for their ratchets, Tekton for sockets, wrenches, hex sockets. Sunex for impact sockets. Knipex for wrenches. Craftsman Overdrive wrenches and long panel anti slip wrenches are great. But Proto sockets, impact sockets, hex sockets and Wrenches are just fantastic and every bit as good as tool truck.

  • @CorvetteTrev
    @CorvetteTrev 27 днів тому

    All of them 😂 You can get Snap-On wrenches from Catapillar for hundreds less. Icon at HF are nice, the double box spline specifically. Nano Sockets are very economical. It's too bad the 44pc gearwrench combination wrenches went to China, the Taiwan version were great $250 6mm-32mm+¼"-1½". Still a great deal but not a fan of the China. Professional use all day I like Wright Grip and Proto. And GW120xp suck! I'd get Icon ratcheting

  • @3seriesgarage
    @3seriesgarage 28 днів тому

    Personally! I'd get anything that makes the job faster, get the job done, or does what it's needed to do! What id tell a tech starting out!??, id say get yourself a good set of Gearwrench Ratcheting wrenches, SAE&MM, and get a set of Gearwrench Regular open/ boxed end wrenchs, then you have mostly what you'd need for starting out! get more once you run into them jobs, if you can afford to, grab a set of Gearwrench flexhead Ratcheting wrenches of the bat also! They will be handy but not needed 🤷🏼‍♂️👋 good hearing from ya man! It's been a while!!

    Stupid question. You need both to be effective .

    • @classiclinesautomotive
      @classiclinesautomotive 28 днів тому

      Well I look at the perspective of someone coming into the field may not have 200 dollars to blow on standard combination wrenches and another 300 for ratcheting combination wrenches . I agree both are needed . So with that being said if budget was in mind for some one to buy one or the other coming into this industry which would you suggest to them ?

  • @Bloodsong0830
    @Bloodsong0830 29 днів тому

    Well under consideration that in what I do if the people I train for what we work on 90% of the time you need two wrenches so I would recommend just getting both

  • @daydreaminfaze33
    @daydreaminfaze33 29 днів тому

    I'd recommend a standard combination wrench first. It is what I went with. Solely because of the price. But you can also crank down on a combo wrench more than a ratcheting wrench. Also, I'd recommend aggressively buying tools. I started with basic everything. Day one. Then, I immediately started upgrading from there. Having better tools and more options will make a life easier 10 fold.

    Start with a set of combination wrenches. Add to the tool box as you can with what you can afford.

  • @chrxx4327
    @chrxx4327 Місяць тому

    For starting out, combination wrenches. Then once you're annoyed enough with not having ratcheting. Get a set of flex head ratcheting because they can be used in so many more spots. Eventually, you'll want every style of ratcheting wrench. Flex head, straight, and angled. Stubby's variants too.
