Neal Morse Returns to Discuss No Hill for a Climber
Progressive rock legend Neal Morse is back with a new prog band, Neal Morse & the Resonance, and they are set to release their debut album on Nov. 8 on Inside Out Music. No Hill for a Climber is an excellent blend of what you've come to love about Neal's music and a fresh set of sounds from the young musicians he's aligned with on this project. Neal talked about the band, the album, a run of solo acoustic shows he did a couple of months ago, and more. NOTE: There were some issues with Neal's mic dropping out in the first 12-13 minutes of the interview and his voice is a bit rough from being under the weather, but it's still a great discussion.

Переглядів 181Місяць тому
UK-based guitarist and songwriter Lee Abraham is known for his work in Galahad, but he's a terrific progressive rock solo artist as well. His new album, Origin of the Storm, drops Oct. 21 on Festival Music, and he was kind enough to discuss with me the making of the album, which of the new songs was inspired by Steve Hackett, recent solo and Galahad gigs, his mother's battle with dementia, and ...

Dream Theater's Jordan Rudess Discusses New Solo Album "Permission to Fly"
Переглядів 572 місяці тому
Dream Theater and Liquid Tension Experiment keyboard wizard Jordan Rudess joins me to discuss his upcoming solo album, Permission to Fly. Unlike many keyboard player solo albums, which focus on the keys and often use multiple singers and musicians, this one was put together like a band album, using a consistent lineup across the record. It's a cohesive album that has its moments of keyboard pyr...

Andy Tillison Returns to Discuss New Album "To Follow Polaris"
Переглядів 196 місяців тому
Andy Tillison from The Tangent returns to talk to me about the new album To Follow Polaris, which is a unique record in the band's catalog. The primary reason for this is because it's all Andy this time. With his bandmates' busy schedules, Andy decided to have a go at a Tangent album himself, playing all the parts and trying to get into the headspace of his bandmates. The result is another soli...
Saga Guitarist Ian Crichton Discusses New Six By Six Album
Переглядів 926 місяців тому
My guest, Ian Crichton, has long been an underrated yet exciting guitarist primarily known for his work in the Canadian progressive pop/rock band Saga. Ian's still a member of that band, but he's also in an exciting trio called Six By Six with vocalist/bassist/keyboardist Robert Berry and Saxon drummer Nigel Glockler. Six By Six dropped its sophomore album, Beyond Shadowland, today, and like th...
The Kings Are Back: Interview with David Diamond and Mister Zero

Canadian power pop-infused party rockers The Kings returned in 2023 with their first album in 20 years, The Longest Story Ever Told. Honestly, it's like they were never gone. The new album is full of memorable hooks, fun lyrics, and all the stuff The Kings have always done well. I spoke with David Diamond and Mister Zero from the band about the new record, their musical backgrounds, how they ho...
Gregory Spawton of Big Big Train Discusses "The Likes of Us"
Переглядів 1 тис.9 місяців тому
Big Big Train founding member and multi-instrumentalist Gregory Spawton was kind enough to spend some time with me to discuss the making of the band's new album, The Likes of Us, which drops on Inside Out Music on March 1. The new record is the first since the untimely and tragic death of vocalist David Longdon as Alberto Bravin bravely steps in to fill David's shoes (and does so, brilliantly)....

Shadow Circus just released the band's fourth studio album, From the Shadows, but it's their first in more than a decade. The East Coast progressive rockers are back wit...

Cheap Trick and Venue Review - The Sound at Coachman Park
i've been a GG fan since i was 12 yrs old. i didnt have any of their albums but a friend had them all. by 1975 i was i gigantic GG fan, had a couple albums/cassette tapes. saw them at the tower theatre 76, twice in 77, 80. only live performance i ever saw that compare to GG was Frank Zappa. i own all their albums on cd. playing the fool remains my favorite live album. i remain i gigantic GG fan. i love civilian. thank you Derek Shulman. thank you GG.
This is easily my favourite album of the year, the title song is my favourite song of the year, chris rileys vocals adds that extra special that makes this album so good.
Geoff should reunite with Payne now.
Good to get to know the man behind the band. Frost* has been a breath of fresh air!
Fantastic interview. Have all the Frost albums, seen them live .. had absolutely no clue about the Satriani and Vai connections. Mind blown.
Wow, just discovered Frost* this weekend! I am hooked!!!! Just listened to the whole catalogue this weekend.
Just played the new album. Its excellent!😃
Always good to hear what Neal's up to, thanks Mike.
Good interview, what a nice guy and an interesting career he's had. Milliontown is one of my favourite modern prog albums, and Life in the Wires sounds like it could become just as regular a listen for me.
The day that Frost* stops making music is the day that Hope truly dies. #frost*forever
Awesome interview and killer new album!
Absolute KINGS of modern prog. And in my view modern prog is better than 70s!
Such a wonderful, groovy and prog chops drummer ... NDV's got it all I am VERY GLAD to hear that Rewiring is getting a new release. I have the first on CD and it is soooooo good , amazing sounds Thank you for this! Spock's are my No.1❤😊
Totally Solid
New album is AWESOME!!!!🙌🏻
A mucician band for musicians , love this music , if you can get youe hands on it buy 13 winters , remastered albums and live recordings ...... it is a shame there not very known , prog friends only
First time I've heard of this band. Found on MOROW
dig in and enjoy! I'm an old "prog-head" from the late-1960s-to-mid-'70s heyday, particularly fond of Gentle Giant, Hatfield & the North, UK, Crimson... Few current "prog" bands have consistently impressed me like Frost* have. Brilliant musicianship; music's Inventive, fresh, full of surprises, and laced with a smidgen of English wit. Highly recommended.
@@aka.Mr.French Similar story here, grew up listening to Genesis and Rush 2112. Fave bands that are around now are Frost*, Porcupine Tree, Steve Wilson, and Moron Police. Frost* being the best IMHO.
@@budgetguitarist - Porcupine Tree / Steven Wilson are among my favorites as well. In fact, first hearing PT around 2007 and getting deep into them reignited my desire to play guitar after 25+ years away from it (long story as to why I'd quit, strayed from music, sold off my gear...). Will have to check out Moron Police now. :)
Incredibly hyped for the new album - the songs released so far have been tremendous!
Surprised by how deep his speaking voice is considering his upper register
Simon is fantastic. Great musician and lovely bloke. Kelly too for that matter
Wonderful to have found this. CTW is my current album of the year.
A brilliant musician and brilliant writer. May he rest in peace.
Great interview. I subscribed.
Finally get to see the guys. Great to put a face to the voice. Thnx for the vid.
Wish more people were listening to your discussion. It is a fine review of the album in depth. The Lamb is a difficult album to understand lyrically, but combined with the music it is dynamite. I like sides 3 and 4. Steve's solos are great there. It has a wonderful variety of music and feeling. Peter Gabriel's vocal are the best of his career. Now I can prove the message is relevant and meaningful. I just completed the attached essay on the album's meaning.....May I send a PDF for your review?
Of course I can not attach anything to UA-cam. Oh well, If interested I can give you my email address and send a copy. I would love to publish the essay for the album's anniversary!
Melodic final of " god uses eveything for good " us really superb./ Neal morse : king of melodic themes
Huge ENCHANT fan I am. Doug is one of my top ten guitarists up there with Steve Vai, Paco de Lucia, Joe Satriani, Tommy Emmanuel, Eric Johnson, etc. His guitar and composition work in ENCHANT is beyond phenomenal.
I'm a huge GG fan.... I love the debut (actually my favorite album) to Interview. Missing piece, Giant for a day (except Words from the Wise, I loved it but as a pop song), and Civilan... no thanks. I didn't give them much of a chance to be quite honest. Though my assessment of M Piece and G for a day hasn't changed that much, last year I gave Civilan a good listen. As someone said below in the comments, I was blown away by it. Yes, it's much more straightforward, but it sounds great, AND it does have an element of weirdness (not to the level of A the Taste of course) that GG was famous for. There's some atonal chords here and there, I love it. Thanks for this interview!
We are Lunatics Anonymous!
I've been listening to and loving Gentle Giant for 48 years now! And I listen to the albums again and again! 😊 The first song was "On Reflection" from the album "Freehand", it came on the radio and I immediately fell in love! Unfortunately, the record dealer couldn't help me because I didn't know which album it was on, so I bought "Interview" which had just come out at the time! I was very surprised that Ray hardly heard his "old" music! My "top ten" are: 1. Acquiring the taste 2. interview 2b. Freehand 3. Debut 4. Civilian 5. Octopuses 6. Missing piece 7. Three Friends 8. Glass House 9. Power And The Glory 10. Giant for a Day And of course "Playing the fool" as one of the best live albums of all time! Rest gently and in peace Ray 🙏
Always interesting to hear how musicians get their start.
I think Alberto will grow the same size as David into our hearts. Big big surprising news: Big Big Train is not deminished at all without David, it’s still as great. Only thing I wished is it could have been proggier.
Brilliant album - one of the best they have done! It’s on repeat to the point where partner Karen says: ‘We’ve heard this!’ The two U.K. tours I saw BBT were awesome - multi-instrumentalists and great singers too! Certainly my favourite band of now!!
Thank you. John is refreshingly honest. An enjoyable listen.😊
Whenever I listen to GG music I often imagine me playing the bass, as a keyboardist. I appreciate this guy so much. Congratulations my friend wherever you are 🌟
Fantastic conversation between you two guys! Love it. I’ve got all of the Big Big Train studio albums except BARD, including the new one, The Likes Of Us. I would love to see them revisit the last album they did with Sean Filkins, The Difference Machine, remix it, remaster it and put it out on 180g vinyl. That’d be a much sought after album.
Looking forward to RAMA--DRINKS AFTER FOR ALL OTHS ALUM
I cant find anywhere that Ray ever sang lead on a song. We know Kerry was very involved vocally and they could all sing including Gary and John, but did Ray ever do any lead bits that were able to be heard clearly?
This is incredible. Huge fan of BBT. Cheers and thank you from Minnesota 🙌
Greg is an incredible composer and musician. Love BBT.
OOTSP. My favorite Kings X album. Love it!
I loved Magic Fly by Space too. Early version of Daft Punk.
Superb interview. So good that you let Greg have the time to fully answer, without too many interruptions. Somewhat rare these days. Bravo!
Very well conducted, informative interview - thank you!
Great interview, thanks.
Terrific interview! ❤️❤️🚂
Too bad, and sad ,that a board of people get to say what comes out from Keith Emerson, and not Aaron and his grandson! How did that happen?
Great interview , Doug and the crew are master musicians.
music... music
Thanks for this interview, Mike, it was a blast! Apparently I had a lot to say after 12 years lol so thank for giving me an outlet!
It was great catching up and learning how the new album came about! Best of luck with it.
LOVE the new album. LONGtime fan! Hope to catch a show of yours!
