"Adelina de Maya" - Marching Band Version

The first time I heard this Tom Wallace arrangement of "Adelina de Maya" I was so overwhelmed with emotion and excitement that I almost had to pull the car off the road. The big wall of brass sound that he created was such a wonderful and unexpected jolt. I just loved it! Another home run for Tom Wallace, the Babe Ruth of arrangers!

For some reason I feel like this would be a great theme for baseball.
Dude I absolutely love the jig at 0:23 and 2:21! The switching between 3/4 and 5/4 is so cool to listen to and play
Heard this today on WGUC Cincinnati. So beautiful. 🤗🎶🥰📯🎶🎺❤Thank you!
Amazing music

I love both versions of this theme! So energetic yet optimistic sounding! Wonderful performances and writing on this version especially :D
When you heard this song play, you knew it was almost time for bed.
Heard this earlier today on the Radio. Amazing!❤
@@Verz_The_Game Thank you for taking a moment to let me know.
Thank you for this- your music resonates so deeply with me, personally.
Wow, that's very meaningful to hear. I appreciate your taking a moment to let me know. Best wishes, Joseph Curiale
This is honestly a really great composition. Writing a theme song for something as fundamentally varied in tone as the news can’t be easy. You need something that straddles every line possible, without being distasteful over the many serious subject matters that the news brings us. And then here, you had the additional task of making it appealing to kids. You pulled it off, and you did a tremendous job. The song has a good, solid energy to it that contributes to its optimistic edge, subtlety reminding kids that the future’s never as bleak as it may seem. And hell, here I am, remembering it thirty years later. Terrific job 🫡
Wow, thank you for your very kind and very insightful review. I guess I'm a big little kid who never grew up, so perhaps I had a feel for what might be fun for kids to listen to. As I had mentioned previously, this was the 6th version I had written before the producers were happy. I'm glad because I felt depleted by then, and didn't have it in me to write a 7th. Thank you for appreciating the music. Best wishes.

For any kid who thought that watching the news was boring all they had to do was stick it on Nickelodeon with this theme and we ate it up.
Core. Memory. Unlocked.
I never really cared about the show, I just liked the song. ☺️
Thank you. It's good to know.
I’m playing this song on sax for a performance and it sounds super fun to play, so wish me luck
Wishing you good luck. Just enjoy the moments and have fun with it.
Currently playing the snare part for this, love it
Hello Elias, thank you for sharing your comment. Though I'm not a drummer, drums are my first love, especially the snare drum. So, I try to think carefully when composing the snare part. If I feel excited about it, I imagine others will feel the same way. Best wishes, Joseph Curiale

During its original run, Nick News with Linda Ellerbee was telecast on Sunday nights at 8:00 p.m. and later 8:30 p.m. on Nickelodeon, and ran in repeats at various timeslots. Nick News was #1 in the ratings on Nickelodeon in 1992-1993, and has never gone below #6 in the ratings, making it one of the most consistently highly rated news shows on TV. From 1993 to 1999, the first-run syndicated version of Nick News-distributed by Viacom Enterprises (now CBS Media Ventures)-aired on local stations-both independent and network-affiliated-all over the United States of America on weekends. The show also previously appeared on early weekday mornings, fully commercial-free as a part of the television cable industry's Cable in the Classroom initiative, which urged teachers from schools across the globe to tape episodes of Nick News and show them to their classes during school hours. The show was a regular part of the lineup on the Noggin channel, one of Nickelodeon's sister networks, from February 1999 until March 2002, when the network rebranded and removed its retro block. Segments from Nick News were also shown on the Phred on your Head Show. TeenNick aired two episodes of the show in repeats on both October 25, 2010, and February 15, 2011, and also aired once as part of their nightly block The Splat from November 5-6, 2016.
- Who? - What? - Where? - When? - Why?
Any 90s kid who heard this theme song all rise! 😂! What a nostalgic tune ❤
I missed watching Nick News, because that's part of my childhood.
Thank you, Joseph, for being a part of our childhood.
Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful comment. I appreciate the smile.
Just listened to the Tufts Wind Ensemble play this piece, and it really stuck out to me as the highlight of the show (so much so that I just had to go find it on UA-cam!). I love how smoothly you change the meter, and the syncopation adds this bounce to the piece that really makes you feel the namesake emotion of joy!
Thank you, Michael. All so nice to hear. I appreciate your taking the time to let me know.
Thanks for writing this. I played it ~20 years ago in high school, and I will never forget it! Great music like this stays with you - FOREVER! It's always a light in the darkness.
Thank you for sharing your kind and positive thoughts.
This sounds like a sequel to National Geographic
When her face appeared you know it was time to change the channel or turn the TV off. 😂
This is absolutely phenomenal! I hope this gets played in concert in the UK sometime, because I would be right there.
Thank you very much for sharing your kind comments. The Ulster Orchestra performed "Awakening" on the BBC a year or so ago. Since the UK musicians and recording engineers added so much life to the music, it would give me much satisfaction to have the music performed live in the UK more often. Again, thank you for your comments.
i use to love watching this as a kid, in my bedroom on a ol box television...
Why did people hate linda ellerbee what she do
Linda was a wonderful, gracious person, and a fine professional. I never heard a bad word spoken about her.
@@josephcuriale2293 she seems nice what happened to Nick news why did she leave the show
Because she actually brought an intellectual program to Nickelodeon instead of the traditional nicktoons. Personally, I loved Linda Ellerbee and miss her!
@@michaelh8800She probably just wanted to move on.
Joseph- this is a piece I played with my 8th grade concert band. That was 7 years ago and I still come back to this piece when I need a pump up. Thank you!
I remember watching this & the theme song. It kinda sounds like the 90s Dateline NBC theme.
Say what you want, but I love Linda Ellerbee I miss her.
Even as an adult I still can only take 10secs of this song
Yes! I hated hearing it and i'd always change the channel.
Same 😂
Just heard this on the radio. Now added to my playist. Absolutely breathtaking. Thank you!
Thank your for letting me know.
Awesome work by Curiale: we hear triumphant, brassy fanfares; quiet, tender sections; and insidious, motoric, uplifting ones, all in a wonderful, populist musical vein !!!
Thank you for taking the time to write such nice comments. I appreciate it. Very best wishes, Joseph Curiale
@@josephcuriale2293 My pleasure ! And thank you, Mr. Curiale, love your music !
An oasis of calm; a seemingly hidden respite from cacophonous modern life.
Thank you very much.
Thrilled to hear the erhu as a component of the symphony. The sound that this instrument produces seems to induce in me an other worldly feeling of eternal awe! Thank you Mr. Curiale and Ms. Han!
Hello Carey, thank you for your kind and thoughtful messages. I was very fortunate to have found Karen Han many years ago. Actually, she played all the beautiful erhu solos in the movie “Joy Luck Club”, “Memoirs of a Geisha, and many many more. I have never heard another erhu player that plays with her passion. You should look her up on Facebook and say hello. Very best wishes, Joseph Curiale
my band was going to play this a few years ago but our concert was cancelled because of the pandemic :( my disappointment is immeasurable but it was still very fun to rehearse!!
Subscriber and view count seem absurdly low, even if these are off by a Very Large factor, Mr. Curiale must be one of the most underappreciated geniuses of our time, in my opinion.
Thank you very much for your very kind comments. Thank you for taking the time to share them with others. With much gratitude, Joseph Curiale

Congratulations. Wishing you the best.

Ahhhhh I love the trumpet solo!! I’m second chair in my band, which is playing this piece, hoping to challenge the person ahead of me just for this solo! 🤞🏻
This song is so fun to play on trumpet one. My 2 other trumpet buddies and I switch trumpet 1 parts. They both got fun but generic parts. And I was the last person to get trumpet one. Good things are worth waiting for :). oh my god though time signatures are a pain 😅 thanks for composing this incredible song with ways for youngins like me to get better at trumpet!
Hello Braeden, thank you for your message. It’s nice to know you enjoy the trumpet parts. I was a trumpet player, so I always make sure the trumpet parts are fun to play and the fingerings feel comfortable. As for the time signatures, I must confess that I was terrified of anything other than 4/4 when I was a student, so it’s especially interesting that I write very often in multiple meters. It’s because I determine how many beats there are in a phrase, and mark the bars accordingly. Then I count the number of bests to determine the meter. If you forget about the meter and just think of the melodic phrase, you won’t be bothered by the odd numbered bars. Soon, odd meters will feel as natural as 4/4. Best wishes, Joseph Curiale
Love this piece!!! I am playing this with the Lubbock Concert Band next week for our holiday concert.
