Kwikset smart key locks have plastic in them. I notice that the Kwikset smart key lock in your video has plastic. I've seen and heard that Kwikset smart key locks can be forced open. I wouldn't recommend Kwikset smart key locks.

Raked mine open, just to see if it would go. Just started lockpicking and happened to have one of these on my shed. I have it mounted on a vice on my work desk, so I open it 5-10 times a day. I actually go from light tension to heavier tension going from back to front. After I pass 4, which is really tight, I put a tease more tension and go right through it. Good job!

Does the 5200 retain the key when open? Mine seems to not want to give up the key unless I have the shackle closed. I’ll need to pick this to disassemble. Do you know if there’s a difference between this one that you have and the US Army-issued 5200’s?

Can this be done while using a Lishy?

Does this technique work on gen 1 and 2 as well?

#3 KwikSet master pin blocks that hole with ball bearing in Gen 3.

How do you know the pins set? Do they bind like pin locks?

I just had the same experience gutting this lock, but I did mangle a few springs. It's advertised as re-keyable but imo this doesn't really qualify. It's re-cylinderable. I'm not a return stuff guy...but I think I'm gonna take it back.

Ridiculous. As a locksmith these things are a nuisance and will cost customers more for a lockout. Because I’m not going to pick this pos. I’m going to drill it off the door and charge them for a new lock.

How’s the durability in regards to shackle pull and such? I don’t ever see videos showing the durability.

You mentioned you didn't think the shackle was hardened steel because you removed the plating with a file and it looked like copper underneath. It's common in plating to have layers of different metals. I'm not sure why. Maybe the nickel or chrome adheres to copper better? Maybe because it's more shiny? A better test for hardness is to check it with a file. Run a file across it with firm pressure. If it digs in and removes metal, the metal is softer than the file. If it just skates across, it is harder than the file.

Just got a pick set the other day and have been picking any lock i can get my hands on, but when i tensioned a kwiky i thought it was broke or i was going crazy..er.

Not an easy lock to pick...that's all I really need with so many other ways to get into my house. Thanks, great video.

Like the vid! I just started playing with picking locks because of a video I ran into on my feed a month or so ago. Hooked. Made some tools at first had mild success with smaller master locks . Bought a cheap set of picks and have only got more addicted. Just had to over share- I don’t tell many people about my new hobby for obvious reasons so that’s why I’m giving unsolicited info . My question to you is, What’s the difference between master lock number five and master lock number five commercial?
