Groundhog Comes Visiting Our Front Door
Our front door camera caught this groundhog running up our steps early one morning. Looks like he was debating whether to knock on our door and decided it was too early and he didn't want to wake us. He's a cute little guy but I wouldn't want to try to pet him.

Kramer and Puddy (our cockatiels) on Window Perch

Our cockatiels (Kramer and Puddy) like to hang out on their window perch and watch the backyard birds. When we come by, Puddy comes over for a head rub while Kramer wants to climb on us and whistle. He was a bit chatty in this video so Puddy allowed him to hog the camera time. They're both cute!

Our Cockateil, Kramer, is chatty in the morning and likes to greet us. He usually says "Hi" or "Hello" or "Whatya Doin'?" but he also likes to play peek-a-boo or to whistle tunes. As soon as he sees a camera pointed his way, he goes does a wolf whistle. He's always happy to greet us as we open up his cage and give him new food and water each morning.
Mockingbird visits an empty feeder

Although we have several mockingbirds in our yard, this is the first one I've captured on my feeder camera. They don't eat bird seed but I do occasionally throw in some raisins and berries which they occasionally eat. They're fun to watch and their calls, which are many and varied, are a pleasure to hear but they are tough birds and can be bullies so we really don't want them to become regular ...
Townsend Solitaire ??

I need help in identifying this bird. I think it is a Townsend Solitaire but they are very uncommon for New Jersey. It has similar markings to a mockingbird but doesn't quite look like one. Can any bird experts out there provide a qualified identification?
Two Osprey Spotted On the Navesink River

Spotted 2 osprey relaxing on a dock on the shoreline of the Navesink River by Rumson (New Jersey). It is always fun to watch them nesting, hunting or just relaxing. On this same day, I saw an eagle fly by with a catch and it was being chased away by 3 osprey who didn't like it hunting in their territory. That was an awesome sight but, unfortunately, it happened so fast I wasn't able to record it.
Song Sparrow Chases Another Sparrow Away From Feeder

This sparrow must have been hungry because he wouldn't share this feeder with another song sparrow who stopped by for a snack. They're little but they can be tough.
Turkey Vulture Eating Roadkill

Spotted this Turkey Vulture eating what looks like a bird carcas as I was out riding my bike and stopped to video it. He wasn't bothered at all with my presence and, after I finished, a car drove by and that didn't scare him off either. He (or she) was completely focused on his (or her) meal. As you can see, they aren't the most attractive of birds.
Blue Jay At Backyard Feeder

These birds are typically pretty aggressive and can chase smaller birds away. While they'll eat the seed in the feeder, they really come for the shelled peanuts and larger nuts we add to the mix. These are pretty birds with an interesting call. They are fun to watch but they can be bullies.
Backyard Rabbit Eating Bread From My Hand

I've been feeding this rabbit for a while and he's comfortable eating NEAR me but I've managed to get it to eat bread from my hands a few times this week. I finally caught one of those feedings on video. He does get spooked quickly in this one but still cool to have a wild rabbit eat from your hand, even for a short while.

Check out this hummingbird that came to our backyard feeder today. It is amazing to watch how gracefully they hover and how fast they are! They certainly burn up lots of energy based on how fast their wings are moving.
Catbird visits feeder to eat some strawberries

I added some strawberries to our backyard feeder and attracted this catbird who has been hanging around all day tearing up a strawberry! He seems very happy!!

Excellent video, James! I can one hundred percent relate. I do the same thing, and have been for months now! I can now hand feed them, pet them and lie down with them. I had the unforgettable experience of having my favourite, Jaxie, breastfeed her babies right in front of me! I sat motionless in tears as I watched. I'll never forget it and we'll be pals forever. It's really rewarding to give these cute little critters a vacation from stress. I find they do the same for me too. Keep up your great work and say hi to your little pal(s) for me. Sub'd. 🙂

Are you sure its a rabbit, looks like a hare to me.
Hi there. This is cottontail rabbit which are very common in our area. Hares are larger than rabbits and have longer ears and hind legs. Hope that helps.

@JamesBiggs-Kayaker I think it would be cool if you made a separate UA-cam account dedicated to Kramer and Puddy, or you can even change the name of your current UA-cam account. There are several channels dedicated to cockatiels, and a couple of them are quite popular. You can even talk to viewers about how to care for cockatiels 👍😃.

Why you have to wake someone up and say goodbye? I remember i had the same mistake when i thought i will give him the freedom by opening /putting the cover away but now i just leave him alone untill it's 10-12 hours sleeping is done.
I don't really say "goodbye" to our birds in the morning, I only do that at night. In fact, they generally say "Bye Bye" to me at night when they're ready for bed and want to be covered. I just said "Bye Bye" in the video because I was putting the camera away (he was whistling at it so I was letting him know I was putting it away). Our cockatiels are 14 and 15 years old and we've been covering their cage since we got him so they're used to it and even remind us if we forget to cover them up at night. It comforts them and makes sure they get their 11+ hrs of sleet each night. It's ok not to cover them as long as their cage is in a quiet, secluded spot.

Just so anyone reads this bunnies don't eat meat. Hay and veggies is all they really need.
Agree that they prefer greens but, once in a while, I feed them some fruit (a piece of banana or strawberry - cut up) and they seem to like that.

Cat bird? Because of the way it sounds? It looks like a mockingbird
Yes, it is named a Grey "Catbird" because of its sound - although I haven't really heard a call that sounds like a cat. Catbirds are related to mockingbirds but catbirds are smaller and their breast is darker (mockingbirds have paler breasts). They are both aggressive birds and they do have similar songs.

aw, how cute. Open the cage and let him out. Cockatiels need socialization, and they don't get it if they're behind bars all the time. They're intelligent social birds, not coffee tables.
Totally agree. This video is just as we are opening the cage first thing in the morning. He loves to socialize with us and with our second cockatiel so he's out of the cage most of the day.

They are one of the few birds that chases starlings away from our feeders. Problem is there's only 1 or 2 of them and hundreds of starlings. 😂
So true - we have the same problem with starlings and grackles here and the 2 red bellied woodpeckers that come around aren't enough to chase them all away. But I guess they all need to eat.
