    In the drawn pictures of the transistors, you have the oppositely marked PN terminals of the transistor. An NPN transistor (in order = k, b, e) is to be denoted by the transition N (k) P (b) N (e). The PNP transistor has it exactly the other way around, i.e. in the order k-b-e it is a PNP.

    Thanks for the video getting exactly the same 8v output so whatever the cause its likely the same - my one died in storage for a couple of years in the new mexico desert storage. I pulled the 3 big caps but they were close enough to the spec so that was not it either - i too suspect the switching control logic, cant find the whole supply board, have not looked for the little cards.

    Thanks for this video. Hopefully you can provide a suggestion for me. I've had two Onkyos receivers (HT-S3500, HT-S3910). One lasted 4 years and the other one less than 2. One turned on, but didn't give audio. The other one didn't turn on at all. Then I bought a Pioneer receiver (VSX-534) and it didn't even last a year before it shut down and never turned on back again. The reason why I bought Onkyo and Pioneer, is because the remote controller has an option to increase the volume of the voices in movie. That's a super useful option and I haven't seen that option in the controller from other receivers. Maybe other brands do have that option, but I haven't seen it by looking at screenshots. So my question to you is, which receiver should I buy that won't die so easily? What brand manufactures good receivers at an affordable price? Something that's under $400, if possible. Thanks.

    • @anatticinnorway2883
      @anatticinnorway2883 Місяць тому

      Thank you for your comment and question. I’ve been thinking. If your receivers die this fast, then there is possible something wrong in your speaker setup. I will advise you to check your speaker impedance in regard to recommendations for the receiver. Because no receiver is to did this fast.

    • @reyvgm
      @reyvgm Місяць тому

      @@anatticinnorway2883 Thanks for the reply. I'm not very knowledgeable about these things. By impedance you're mean that the speakers might be too "powerful" for the receiver? With the 3rd receiver (the Pioneer one), the speakers I was using belong to the 2nd Onkyo. I did buy a powered subwoofer because the pioneer receiver didn't have the "home theater in a box" capabilities of the onkyos. Other than that, I don't know how to check the impedance or how everything is supposed to be compatible with each other. Do you have a video about how to properly select speakers and subwoofer for a standalone receiver?

    Awesome repair! I have my Tandberg in the repair shop now. First time I plugged it in about 30 seconds bit of a hum another 30 seconds or so later a loud pop and blueish smoke pouring out the top vent! I had a look inside and can not see any damage to the components except for a slightly charred capacitor on the transformer. Looks like a aluminium foil is wrapped round it so I don't know what type it is either. I have limited knowledge on amplifiers :) anyway the repair shop says they fixed the amplifier but the tuner, which I know didn't work anyway when I got it needed some gear mechanism changing as it had broken! I am so looking forward to getting it back, I just hope the repair shop is as good as you :) I'll give you an update when I get it back and let you know what needed doing because the smoke tells me it probably needed at least those 2 big capacitors you replaced in your receiver and maybe a few other components.

      Thank you for your comment and compliment. My biggest fear is to hear the pop and see the greyblue smoke when powering up an amplifier. It happens sometimes that this big hum appears when power up an amplifier I just got on my table, but then I power off at once and start searching for errors. I wish you luck regarding your amplifier and hopefully not too many components need to be replaced. And yes please, keep me updated about your Tandberg. Always fun to know.

      @@anatticinnorway2883 Well a bit of an update, the amp is now working so I expect it was the big capacitors not sure yet but the main problem now is apparently there is a gearbox on the tuner which is broken and is going to cost £200 to repair! @@anatticinnorway2883 It's the TR 2060 L and is a tuner and amplifier combined, this one has FM MW and LW. I thought £200 was a good price after researching the insides of it. Seems there is a mechanical gear box on the tuner which turn pots, sounds very complicated to me :) and the volume control is massive!!! ? You people are like gold though! Not even sure if young folk these days know how to fix these amazing machines with all the throw away rubbish they make now. I am so interested in electronics but can only follow it so far, I only recently found out bumble bee capacitors are actually capacitors and would really like to know how you can tell the difference between a bumble bee capacitor and a resistor as they look the same to me and I have tried googling it too! : Might be a very interesting video you could put that in maybe :)

      Thank you very much for these kind words. I do this as a hobby and to kinda show it’s possible to bring back old Hifi to life. In regards to your gear for the tuner, it’s not necessarily wrong price. It’s a big job. For your radio both AM and FM is at same axis and the problem is usually for the AM adjustable capacitor. You need to bring it all out of the casing, clean it and lubricate it, and at the same time make sure the display wires will not get out of order. It’s only me be to kind after fixing these gears. When in comes to these bumblebee capacitors. They are called that because of the colour stripes, just like a bumblebee. And I agree is difficult to see the difference from those and a resistor. But when already mounted at the PCB you easily see the difference. The capacitor is marked C and the number, while resistors is marked R and the number

    I'm using a Sony receiver STR DH190 myself at the moment and the volume control "feels" like it is fixed on with a rubber tube! I hate the feeling of it even though it works as it should except sometimes one of the channels drops off through the headphones but will come back if the volume is turned up and stay that way loud or quiet that day I'm using it. Next day might be fine. Also it's not possible to use the record player through the equaliser because the phono and tape inputs are only accessible one at a time, meaning I have 6 inputs but only one input at a time so I can't used the tape out to go to equaliser because the equaliser would need a phono amp! Therefore if I listen to records I have to have it direct to the amplifier without any equalisation, So I've just bought a Tandberg TR-2060 which does :)

So first I would do is to check the rectifier and output voltage on transformer. You are very welcome to take a trip to Norway though 😎

    What a fantastic job Sir! Your patience and diligence and skills are incredible. I'm thinking of buying a Tandberg 2060 L but the radio is stuck on one frequency. The dial turns but the pointer doesn't. Your video has now convinced me to get this receiver and now all I need is a person with your knowledge to make it good as new here in England :) I had a Tandberg reel to reel the TD20 A and there is no doubt in my mind the sound of that deck puts Revox to shame. I also have the smaller tape recorder series 1200 4 track that sounds amazing too. I'm having trouble with the pinch wheel at the moment, the washers seem to be in the wrong order so the tape drifts off and the pinch wheel doesn't push against the capstan hard enough, anyway I'm in the process of fixing that myself hopefully.

      @anatticinnorway2883 3 місяці тому

      Hello. Thank you very much for your comment and compliments. The reason the radio is stuck on one frequency, is probably because the scale wire is broken. It is a hassle but possible to fix. This scale wire is a thread which connects the dial to the variable resistor (the channel selector) and the pointer. I have been replacing a couple, but still not posted a video from it. I probably have to get me someone to help me edit all these vids 😅. I have to admit I don’t have much knowledge in Tandberg reel to reel recorders, but someday I will. I have a few to practice, but as for now I’m looking at them with joy mixed with horror. One day! One day I will dive into this magic, and hopefully post some videos from it as well. I hope you find someone to fix your radio.

The main thing repairing reel to reels I think is knowing the best way to get them apart to access the bits you want to service if you have the electronic knowledge like yourself life would be a breeze and the money and or enjoyment you would get from repairing or servicing them would be a literal gold mine!

      Hello Bill. Thank you for your comment. These RCA connectors on this amplifier is PCB mounted if I don’t remember wrong. They should be able to find at any store who has a decent collection of electronic components. You also can find them at eBay and AliExpress. Happy hunting.

    Tar det på Norsk :) Jeg driver å restaurerer en Sølvsuper 12C, fått byttet scalasnor, pærer og reimer. Renset og smurt etter beste evne. Men når jeg skal betjene kasettspilleren play, wind eller rewind så begynner den bare å hakke, vil ikke låse seg i posisjon. Slår jeg av enheten trykker play, så slår på så virker den, men stopper jeg uten å slå av, men bare prøver play igjen, så hakker den. Rewind virker bare noen sekunder før den autoshuts down? Har du noen formening av hva det kommer av?! skjønner meg ikke helt på autostop mekanikken, finner det ikke beskrevet i service manualen heller er du på noen andre forum, hvor denne typen spørsmål passer bedre ? På forhånd takk, og ha en fin dag :)

      Hei, og takk for meldingen. Den kassettspilleren og de problemene du nevner, kan være så enkelt som uttørkede gummideltaljer og herdet fett i mekanismen. Det finnes et forum på facebook men har ikke sett noe sted hvor dette er kommet opp. Jeg håper du finner ut av det :)

    Touching capacitor is risky because you might got shocked , Is it true that you should discharge them before you start fix?

    • @anatticinnorway2883
      @anatticinnorway2883 3 місяці тому

      Thank you for your comment. That is correct, that touching capacitors can be a risk. As for this amplifier, the capacitors is discharging after switching off, and the working voltage is less than 50V. But if the working voltage was to be higher, I would discharge the capacitors before starting working.

    Great video. Where do you find axial lamps? My Onkyo lamps burned out (factory lamps lasted 35 years), I replaced with LED's but I'm not liking the quality of light and would like to replace with actual incandescent lamps but cannot find them. You are very resourceful.

Those I got, I buy at AliExpress, since none European wholesale have in stock. Search axial 8V 100mA lamp, and I guess you find them. Happy hunting, and thank you for your support.

      Hello. Thank you for your comment. I’m using alcohol for cleaning. But alcohol will dry out the carbon traces in potentiometers, so I normally spray some lubricating electronic cleaner into the potentiometer after cleaning with alcohol, to avoid the traces to dry out.

    Antiskating can not be adjusted without the arm on the turning table.

    • @anatticinnorway2883
      @anatticinnorway2883 5 місяців тому

      Thank you very much for your comment. That is correct. As I mentioned in an earlier feedback, was that some things were not included in the video. I’m using a specific anti skate table to adjust the anti skate, when the arm is on the turntable, after the weight of the stylus is set. But that I prefer to do, when the turntable is already placed in the environment it is supposed to stay.

    Mate, just completely cleaned an album with wood glue, I was gob smacked, better than new, no pops and crackles at all. Complete silence. I was initially sceptical, but cleaning it traditionally did not work. I had years of built up grime, all gone. Now to clean the other 200, cheers

    • @anatticinnorway2883

      Hello and thank you for your comment. That leveller you’re referring to is the anti skate. It adjusts the traction on the arm. The day I made that video I did not have an anti skate record to adjust, so I adjusted it to approximately the same weight as the stylus pressure to the record. I hope this could help you a little.
