Fast & Easy Way to Model Concrete

Have you ever tried to model concrete? There isn't too much available on the market in 'model form' and most times we need to settle for paper or card that has a concrete pattern printed on it. However that ends now! It is very easy and simple to model concrete and its textures and this is what I present to you in this video. Scratch Building Model Railway Yard Lamps

Everybody always comments on the yard lamps that I have placed on Newton Grove 19F. There are 3 of them and they really do bring a quality to the layout that it never would have had. They tower above the locomotives and they take the scene from a flat landscape to one of a more industrial nature.
Figures Bring Models To Life!

Rose Grove 10F MPD - Steam Shed Tribute
Переглядів 37 тис.6 років тому
'Newton Grove 19F' is a 7mm layout based heavily on the old Rose Grove 10F MPD. Rose Grove was one of the very last steam sheds to close at the end of mainline steam in the UK in early August 1968 - the other two being Lostock Hall and Carnforth. Of the three, only Carnforth survives to this day. Here is a collection of photographs of Rose Grove shed and the locomotives it served.
Love your figures and great paint job. I try to include crew in all my locos, around the track and on the platform. 00 scale u.s. challenging but what I have done is paint them black then dry brush them. Always room for improvement and as I am in Toronto they are difficult to come by at a reasonable price and of course, postage prices are awful. Thanks fir sharing
Great video 👍
My home turf was Paticroft shed at a similar time now all long gone 😢
I've been weathering a couple months now. Specifically on Vanfits and insulated vans from the pre-tops and 70's eras. I've used Paul Bartlett's photos as inspiration
Such a legendary era
The best. I would have loved to been around back then.
Thank you that was really interesting, after many model railway less decades, just bought a couple and want to see how they perform. Good tips thanks.
Excellent instructional video, well constructed and easy to follow.
Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed it 😊
Spent hours scrambling about there in the mid 1960’s with other teenagers interested in steam engines .
grotesque background noise
Deal with it
Absolutely fantastic 👍🏻
👍👍🚞🚞🚞🚞
4:43 What on earth does the crew thinks of putting that number on the door 🤣
Yeah they must have been having a laugh. There’s a few photos of it in service that day with the same chalked number. Nice bit of end of steam history.
the irony is that actually life is the LAST thing that figures bring to a working model railway - they are the one aspect of the model that DON'T MOVE!! They look great in still photos - but it is only if you can believe that the 'people' sitting on the platform seats are actually there to simply watch the trains and not take them to somewhere, and that those two men posed as in conversation actually spend the whole day there, that they really contribute 'life' to a model - to the contrary, they look as if they are dead!

Excelent.
Thank you ☺️
Sound fantastic cinematography! Every shot was amazing!
Thanks very much. I intend to produce more like this over time too. ☺️ I’m glad you enjoyed it.

well this will be added to the list of "why tf was this recommended by UA-cam" lol

Increasingly difficult to hear you due the music - not sure why you did that.
Because a 35min video without music is boring. If it’s not for you then you don’t need to watch the content. I’ll be using music in all videos just so you know.
@@NewtonGrove19F Daft when you are speaking. Still I'll unsubscribe. Thanks.

@35:53 Looks like a literal photograph! Great job, really enjoyed this. I'm not sure a working wagon would end up looking quite THIS bad because of the wear on the components. I would make the wheel rims(?) shiny, almost mirror reflective.
Thanks for the compliment. As you wound have seen I was working with a reference photo of a 16t wagon and the wheel rims are not shiny at all. Remember that these wagons were never cleaned. While the LMS etc had white washed wheel rims on their wagons back in the early days of the Big Four, by the time BR was seeing out steam and many of their wagons, they were run down and covered in grime and gunk. Thanks for stopping by the channel and I hope you enjoy all future content too
@@NewtonGrove19F That's true. I suppose it was non working stock.
Hi. Very useful tips there thank you. Do you finish a wagon by sealing in the powders? Varnish etc ? Thanks, Rob.
Thank you Rob. I generally use a light dusting of matte varnish or matte hairspray to secure it all in (it just didn’t arrive by the time I made the video).
Always appreciate your channel content - and this doesn't disappoint. A masterclass for sure.
Thank you for your kind words Chris. I’m happy to share the little I know to help the O gauge modelling community and those who want to get into to 😊😊

When I was a younger lad my dad worked Rosegrove east which was a 80 lever box. I know at least twice I went to shed to pick his wage up.
Edge Hill sidings and shed looked just the same now lost for ever.
Such a shame it’s all consigned to history. Long live steam.
I grew up in the 1950s/60s almost next to Edge Hill sidings and goods yard which has now completely gone. Your model is very accurate and instantly reminded me of Edge Hill. I used to model in OO gauge but may at some point get round to O gauge as the presence and slow running is very interesting. Well done. By the way one useful tip is to use childs water colour paint mixed with a drop of washing up liquid to paint your figures as they then have a matt finish and the soap gives it good adhesion and lasting quality. Excellent weathering of the wagons was also awesome .
Thank you for the tip with painting the figures. I’ll give that a go next time I’m doing some up. These days O gauge is easy to get into, especially with ready to run locos such as the Jinty and the soon to be released 3MT 2-6-2T and a wide variety of wagons and coaches too. You’ll love the scale of you upgrade. Thank you for the compliments on my model and that they invoked such wonderful memories of Edge Hill too 😊🙏
Many thanks for a very fine video ,I remember going there in the very early 60’s as a train spotter now I am an old Gricer, it was certain good to see all the black 5’s and black 8’s once again plus a couple of namers and a Micky namer as well many thanks for sharing it with all of us old spotters
My pleasure and thank you for the compliments. I really wish I'd been around in the 60's to see and experience it myself, but alas I didn't enter the world until 1981. I'm glad this video brought back some wonderful memories for you :)
Superb!
Thank you so much.
Great shots....awful music..!
The music was chosen to bring out not only a sense of nostalgia but also give it a solemn mood. It's not for you and that's fine :)
@@NewtonGrove19F What music is it? I actually quite like it :)
@@javanicworks-id the music comes from a stock library. I found a track that gave the feeling I wanted and this was the best of them all. I think it comes from the website shock wave sounds.
@@NewtonGrove19F I liked the music it did exactly what you have said.
You can tell this was shot in BR days, most likely in the 1960's judging by the cars parked there, as the loco's are nearly all so filthy, just like in a book I've got about the lines from Great moor street and crook street goods yard in Bolton which is set in the 1950's, in the last days of those lines when BR were running them down. But it wasn't like that in pre grouping times, not if the pictures I've got are anything to go by, they show the loco's all spotlessly clean and polished, even on freight trains, and works trains too, and it was the same in the yards and stations too, all swept clean and spotless.
Yes it's just a collection of images from the late 50's and up until the end of steam in 1968. Very run down and dirty but so full of character and atmosphere. :)
Excellent video.
Thank you very much! :)
Super photos.
Great video, brings back memories of time with my dad at Old Oak Common and seeing locomotives on the turntable, but I loved my Western Region Diesel Hydraulics, Westerns, Warship, and Hymek, classes. But seeing the remaining Castle, King, Hall, and Panniers in such a poor state was sad. Had a great ride at 13 years old on a Hymek from Bristol to Paddington in the cab, will never forget it.
I'm glad it brought back so many memories for you. Hopefully some very good ones. I'm not a diesel fan myself so I don't quite know the loco types your referencing. :)
I've started using the Modelu figures - they very lifelike. But, can you explain why has the figure at 0:27 has got red skin? Also, it's not a Box Brownie camera at 1:24. It's a TLR camera similar to Rolliflex.
ModelU use to (maybe still do) 3D print everything with red plastic. The mistake I made early on was not priming each figure first before painting them. Lessons learned :)
Hey. This is great. I actually live around the Rose Grove area. It’s a shame that it went
Thank you 😊 Yes it is a great shame it’s all gone; it would have been wonderful to see it.
@@NewtonGrove19F absolutely
A very spirited intro. I shall watch with interest.
Wow. What a selection of atmospheric photos. Wish I could travel in time. Thank you for a great piece of nostalgia.
I wish I could travel back in time too. It would have been amazing to experience this before the end of steam. 😊
I have bought several ModulU figures and they are great.... Also Monty’s Models (Dart Castings) !!
ModelU definitely have a vast and impressive range. I’ll have to have a look at what Monty’s has to offer 😊
The sidings at Rosegrove made up the larger Smallshaw sidings this comprising a small parcel siding and sorting shed which butted up to the wall against Rosegrove lane, once carriages where derailed and pushi through this wall. The other sidings stretching across the frontage of the station ,where locos dropped off and collected further traffic. This was a very large complex, where smaller small locos move the wagons .
My Dad worked at Rosegrove on the shunting .team
Oh wow! I bet he had loads of stories to tell. 😊😊😊😊
A true artist, love those first 2 pictures of the crab, could almost smell the sulphur, wasn’t keen on the music though.
Thank you for the wonderful compliments. I really appreciate that 😊😊
