Deep Dive into Josei-Muke Content with Alex & Hani - The Deep Weeb Podcast 20
This will come as a surprise to a lot of you, but girls & josei-muke-enjoyers are also learning Japanese. With this completely new & unheard of territory, I feel once again compelled to don the cloak of "investigative journalism" to find out more about their experiences with The One True Otaku language, Japanese.
AlexmarsCat & Hani will be joining me to gush about their favorite content, that even some of you deep weebs have probably never heard of. How could they learn Japanese, if Textractor only hooks VN's that are for dudes? (Shocking Update: this is allegedly a false claim) Regardless, let's find out together on the next Deep Weeb Podcast.

    Great episode, it was great to hear what everyone has been up to. I loved hearing everyone's thoughts on listening since for the most part it was very different than what I've done haha. Started my immersion journey watching anime raw, and did basically no reading for the first 6-9 months besides within anki. Then I also watched a ton of variety shows and youtube, which dont have subs but just テロップ, which does help but my reading was so far behind that I mostly ignored them at the time haha. And now I'm playing catch up with my reading since I have definitely spent at least 5x more time on listening than reading. Like in 2021 + early 2022 back when I tracked everything, I got about 1150h of listening for 550h of reading, and that was the first year that I actually actively tried to read more; yet despite that I had over twice the amount of listening haha. I agree with what I think Io said; at some point it's just easier to do a lot of listening vs reading since reading is more physically exhausting. Didn't mean to write such a long comment but in typical AJATTer fashion I rambled on haha. All that to say, it was awesome to hear this group discussion!

    Do people not sure audio cards on anki? Like just delete the kanji on the front and only grade yourself on the audio if you don't care about reading at all like he does. Will make you understand the language much faster instead of relying on the reading to recall a word.

    • @KanjiEater

      I dont know anyone who does, but I don't think there's any issue with just doing audio cards if you dont mind being illiterate like my friend Aussieman. I'd always recommend a healthy balanced diet of kanji though

  • @KurosuGon
    @KurosuGon 2 місяці тому

    Would spacing the boards out - say in Carl’s case- let water pass through and not pool up/rot the wood? Idk

    • @KanjiEater
      @KanjiEater 2 місяці тому

      In theory yes, but then it lets more debris onto the metal roof as well. Also, they are already spaced out more than they should be (I know this now that i've built a deck). My phone could fall through one spot its so wide. It's just bad architecture all around though. I would prefer the deck top to be water proof honestly, that way the metal roof wouldn't have a chance to rust, or get buildup on it that eventually leads water to stray screws that are not locked in properly. But that's just fixing the current scenario. And probably overkill. Ideally, you'd pitch the metal roof to have a steeper slope, i think it's supposed to be like 3in / ft, meanwhile I've got like 3 inches total across 12 ft. Unfortunately that would require lowering the ceiling in the area above. So alternatively you just case in the entire top deck, which is what i mention at some point I investigated. That turns out to be prohibitively expensive, to the order of 20k, 40k, 100k depending on if you go from screened porch up to sun room levels. And structurally would require a redo of the the support, which isn't even in the cost i'm describing there. If I did it all again, I'd get a few roofers to pitch ideas. There might be something like a rubber roof that I hadn't even investigated that could be a better option. There are also deck solutions that are water proof on top. The current state is I just have to vacuum it out on a yearly basis, and stain the deck every couple of years. It's not too bad, but still more maintenance than I'd like. I think the leaks are completely fixed (for now)

  • @KurosuGon
    @KurosuGon 2 місяці тому

    Would you have been allowed to dump anything in the lake like rotting wood or leaves and dirt? Since you said 3:51:49 having people haul stuff away is a big expense.

    • @KanjiEater
      @KanjiEater 2 місяці тому

      Definitely not. Anytime somebody dumps even like lawn clipping in the lake (some landscapers got yelled at for this by a neighbor) it affects the appearance, and everybody wants it to be a healthy shared area. I could have burned it, but I still haven't started my own burn pile yet.

  • @KurosuGon
    @KurosuGon 2 місяці тому

    Consider instead of jackhammering the whole thing 2:46:01 , maybe make a path/river for water to go out front. Like a shallow canyon. I don’t know if this will work but maybe a T-shape at the side near the door and the leading outwards could work to lead the water away.

    • @KanjiEater
      @KanjiEater 2 місяці тому

      Spoiler - Too late 😅 The issue is the pad is on the top of the foundation, and there's no way to get the post part off of the foundation without removing the pad. The area behind the post would also collect water that would roll back to the bottom right of the door.

    This is actually an extremely great overall guide of home-buying and maintenance/repairs. I used to want to just let everything be more natural, but when you for instance don’t clean up the leaves along the side of your home, they compost and essentially make the soil taller and taller until, maybe eventually water can start seeping in. Tbh I used to even just throw food scraps out because I like opossums and birds that will eat it and poop out the seeds. But what you might end up attracting is rats and their predators like snakes. So yeah just dumping food waste outside is not a good idea. Better to give them to cows if you have them. But for now I just have to become ok with throwing away organic waste again. I have a composter, but it’s too much work imo unless you’re ok spending time on composting daily.

    • @KanjiEater
      @KanjiEater 2 місяці тому

      Absolutely. I continue to refuse to rake my leaves as it would be a full time job at this place, but yeah no doubt I'll have to maintain the grade accordingly. Sounds like I may need to invest in cows next!

    I'm surprised no one has pointed out that he was probably just reading during his 'output' at 36:18. You can see that, except for a few brief moments, his eyes remain fixated on the same area of the screen.

    • @KanjiEater
      @KanjiEater 3 місяці тому

      I actually did think that during the interview as well. Funny enough, after the first output sesh with doth & hmslc, behind the scenes after, doth asked me if I read my output. I legit did not, though I did think through what I was going to say ahead of time, thus there's a ton of mistakes as pointed out by Saito-san's nitpick video of us. (I do the same thing for certain english parts I want to get right) I assume Jazzy did not "freeball" what he was going to say and thought it through before hand, but because of my own experience, I can't say for sure he "just read it" or whether he just thought it through ahead of time & had some speaking points on screen (or didn't). I much prefer what we did in the Darius interview, where it's actually a fluid conversation between all of us, rather than a quick "Have him say something in Japanese please!", so going forward, I think you can expect more of that.

    • @Polluxx
      @Polluxx 3 місяці тому

      @@KanjiEaterThe difference is that Doth asked you after the production, without the benefit of reviewing the clip of your output or comparing it to other parts of the interview. bro, this still works on windows 11, although due to the shitty ui coloring in the base version it's best used on the forked goldendict-ng , however there is an issue with the dictionary icon size the the right side (not the history pane, but the icon next to the hide dictionary button) being too big. How can i hide the icons the style adds? edit: nvm i found it in the article-style.css file
