Newark Radio Controlled Car Club - A Final 11/10/24
I decided that my 450 front 400 rear oil choice wasn't the right one so changed to 375cst both ends before the meeting.
Practice was on point. Car felt great straight away, I didn't read too much into this as this as been the case for the last few weeks and as soon as qualifying began the car was horrible. Going into Q1 I changed my rearmost wishbone shim to a 3mm, up from 2.5mm. I left the front shim as a 2.5mm to create some "pro squat" and hopefully aid weight transfer to the rear of the car namely on power. Something I've been struggling to get right for a few weeks. The car wasn't terrible, but it still lacked something.
Going into Round 2 I adjusted my top inner shims back to where the car was a few weeks ago which was 2mm on the outer shims (on top of the hub) and 1mm on the inner mounts (on top of the bulkheads). This was now the same front and back. The car felt decent.,
For Round 3 I tried adding "anti dive". This is the opposite to kickup found on buggies. I raised the rear mounting point of the front wishbones to angle the wishbone forwards. If I had hinge pins they would now be at an angle to the chassis. The car was transformed! This is the result.
For the final I left the setup alone. I didn't get the best start, dropped down to last and then parking it to end up being lapped a few laps in. Started to pull it back ever so slightly in the last minute, but wasn't enough to make any places up. New Hobbywing motor running well. Still needs fine tuning on the analyser though.

Newark Radio Controlled Car Club - 11/10/24 Oliver's car has been very loose on the rear for a number of weeks, but finally we made a breakthrough and got it going really well for Q3 and the final. The adjustments I made were to the rear changing the toe in from 3deg to 4deg to stabilise the car into and out of corners. This works well for Oliver and his driving style. Newark Radio Controlled Car Club - A final 04/10/2024 I missed practice this week, but the car was on point from the off this week. Last week's issues were down to a loose rear ARS ballstud giving me between -2 and -3deg of toe on that corner. On the front I also had -4deg and -2deg of toe out so all in all that's why. I took the change to replace the plastic ballcups on the steering so hopeful...

Newark Radio Controlled Car Club - C final 27/09/2024 Practice was awesome. The car was spot on. Couldn't ask for anything more from it. Round 1 it was loose on the rear into corners. Turn in was ok if it didn't kick out, but it was inconsistent and difficult to get into a rhythm. Round 2 I raised the rear roll centre by 0.5mm. The theory being it should give more initial grip on the rear and s...
2wd On-Road National 2024 - Bedworth Round 5 - C final Leg 2. Xray X4F Frontie

I struggled a lot more in this final with the rained on track. My tyres weren't the best and without a dedicated wet car it was always going to happen. A few places gained, but then slowly dropped back down the order. Happy with how the day went either way. My first C final made at frontie national so happy about that.

I only did 2 round of frontie nationals last year and this year I'd concentrated on off road racing, but with the chance of doing a fairly close round I decided I'd go give the frontie a run before the outdoor season comes to a close. I took a couple of runs to get my eye in back running the frontie again, and then in Q2 the driveshaft fell apart... Q3 was a different story though going 3 secs ...

Newark Radio Controlled Car Club - A final 6/09/2024 Some small changes made from last week to test out and with a fresh set of the spoked Rush 28 tyres I hit practice and the car felt great, but come round 1 it had no grip at all. Figuring the tyres just needed some laps I carried on, but nothing really to be happy about. The same in round 2. For round 3 I fitted my pretty much spent Rush 30 t...

Newark Radio Controlled Car Club - A final 16/08/2024 36 racers tonight with a lot of visitors from other clubs in attendance who turned out to be quite quick! FTD qualifying so I moved around from 9th after Q1 to 4th after Q2 and finally being bumped down to 5th after Q3 with setup changes between each rounds to perfect the car as much as I could. Come the final I only got a single warmup lap ...

Saturday 21st July 2024 The rain came down hard during round 4. With nothing to loose I decided to bring out the rear motored B5 to see what happened. Quote from the rostrum "Gareth might of pulled out a blinder here" The way I saw it I was ever going to win or come last. I didn't do too badly at all. I think I was 3rd in the end so happy with that. The car hasn't got a setup on it so some work...

Newark Radio Controlled Car Club - A final 26/07/2024 With the off-roading complete for this year it was back to doing a bit of on road racing at my local club. I'd struggled with my Xray x4 '24 car almost since I got it but had continued to use it and try and get it to work for me. Finally I gave up and bought another x4 '23 car. It was the first night with the 'new' 23 car and everything I re...

Sunday 21st July 2024 The 4wd series would conclude today in Bingham hosted by West Bridgeford Model Car Club. In practice the car felt good and I went 6th fastest in FP2. Popped on fresh tyres for Round 1 and it was all over the place... I put in 4 terrible laps from the off and contemplated pulling off, but continued and ended up 13th in round. Round 2 I'd made some changes and kept my lines ...

Saturday 21st July 2024 The final round of the 2024 regional series took us to Bingham where the West Bridgeford Model Car Club hosted round 5. The sun was out and it was very hot for most of the day until the heavens opened into a downpour. In typical fashion 2 heats had got in dry runs so the #rainassist was in full force for round 4. The Associated B7 was running well in the early rounds whe...

So what did pro squat do for you ... Details plz. I've been thinking of using on asphalt low grip
I believe it helped the transfer of weight to the back on power so the rear was stable out of corners. Combined with the anti dive which I can only imagine helped a tiny bit to really sorted the car out for that Q3 and the final. I suppose I could have dropped my rear spring down to 2.5 from 2.6 may of had a similar effect but this change hasnt effected the side to side balance.
Why is it whenever I'm on your videos Gareth i have a shocker, pole to 5th 😂
I’m sure it’s not every race that happens!
Some optimistic passing manoeuvres by the other drivers pal
It’s good to be able to watch it back and see exactly what we were both doing at the time too. At the time and the speed of it all it’s hard to know how much room did I leave for them etc
When do you guys race ? I would love to come race it would be good to represent our club a face from earcc
Pretty much every Friday evening. There’s a winter series starting on the 6th Oct also.
Looking more professional each time
Thank you
Looks like it performed well Seemed to have good control of the oversteer compared to the other cars What do you think the main differences are between it and a modern mid motor buggy? I’m interested as I have a race coming up here in Australia which is on dirt and notoriously loose in the morning (wet) but grips up during the day and my daughter is going to try and race 2wd. Trying to find something that is the easiest to drive with those conditions.
The first think you notice is the front end. Back to back against the B6/7 it’s like night and day. You get used to it though. I think I need a bit more turn in and a bit less turn out. Just to lock that rear end in out of the corners
From memory of last year the west bridgford grass is super grippy, looks like it from some of your first laps. Super nice ‘take advantage of others mistakes’ on the last lap for you 😅
Yeah I went up 1 front spring rate and was running a 1.9 front roll bar to make it safe in the high speed corners. I’d only removed 2 outer rows and 1 inner row off my mezzos (front) too.
@@GarethJaineRCRacing For sure the extra rows on those mezzo’s would make it grab, been getting used to that on my 4WD all season (much slower than you). What do you expect to happen with thinner/thicker roll bar?
Thicker roll bar keeps the car flatter into corners where the suspension is loaded up. Essentially the thicker the bar the less grip is generated on that end of the car. So a thicker rear would give you more steering out of corners keeping the rear flatter and preventing load transfer
@@GarethJaineRCRacing thanks, will add that to my setup notes
@chowettgoes 👍
Certainly looked slippy. Was it rain before the final rather than before and during?
It chucked it down after heat 2 round 4. Once it stopped it didn’t rain again
What a great race! Consistency won that race
Cheers. A few wobbles but got lucky
Well you had Richard in your sights all race and he just sneaked through for that extra victory lap. Interesting to watch a full race at my home track with you (a better driver than me) your lines and real good and consistent. Also good to see your ‘only human’ small errors over the double occasionally and just one ‘on its lid’ moment. Thanks for sharing and of course your remix on the graphic 😉 see you at the weekend regional
Yeah I think I’d made setup changes in the right direction come the final. Certainly closed the gap up! Back again next weekend
Blinding run, well done 👏
Cheers dude. One of my better runs there!
Why say sorry ???? rubbing is racing
Kinda just a natural thing for me when I make contact. I might have been able to get the move done had I committed a little more. Sort of gave up trying once I’d hit him.
Nice
Thanks
Flying, car looks really good
Both Paul and myself seemed to have a bit more drive and could make the jump a lot easier than at the regional
@@GarethJaineRCRacing I’m guessing that’s the track surface. As you’ll know way more than me. Gives more grip when not baking hot 😅
Great video and entertaining racing
Thank you 👍
What a race weekend 👍☀️
Yeah amazing weather. Great racing. Couldn’t ask for more
Looked like a 50/50 mix of track unpredictability and driver. Certainly I found that way back in the D final, what’s your thoughts?
It didn't help that I had to stand the opposite end of the rostrum to where I stood in qualifying. I was looking across the double before and in the final down onto the top of it. Silly mistakes on my part defo! onto BMR!
@@GarethJaineRCRacing does make a massive difference when you have to move on the rostrum
Fastest car between crashes
Car felt great all day. Those new 13mm shocks made it feel like it floated around the track too 😁 Just silliness in the final really. Good launch mind!
Grip roll on the very last lap cost me 3rd 😢 good Final though
Yeah quite close a lot of the time
Is that mod or 17.5?
17.5 blinky
Dan raced at our club yesterday, EARCC, very quick. Only Tony Broad outqualified him.
yeah he's pretty rapid!
Great nights racing with Retro Class
Yes it was!
