Indiana Jones Motorcycle Chase Filming Location
Переглядів 2846 місяців тому
Last May I took a hike along the trail where the motorcycle chase scene was filmed from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. If you drive up to the Mount Tamalpais Watershed and park at the first parking lot as you enter, look up the Concrete Pipe Road and Taylor Trail Loop on All Trails. Follow along Concrete Pipe Road, which is a fire road, and you'll recognize these exact locations. The joust...

I was hired to do the voice of Carl Sagan at the intro of Kerbal Space Program 2. I've had some random jobs in my life but this has to be the time I've felt out of my body thinking, "How did I get here?" I was in a recording booth in San Rafael California with the game developers and sound engineers for two hours having the time of our lives.

Still looks great! I own this same one - last year, my wife wanted to wear it at the beach and wore it in the water, got it sopping wet. she gave it to me after she was done. I put it on, shaped it back to it's Indy glory, let it dry while wearing it, and the salt water formed some awesome sweat-stain-looking marks around the ribbon so now it looks like it did in Raiders. And the hat keeps on kicking - 6 years now for me. Keep up the adventuring!
Thank you. Glad your hat is still holding up!
Did you change the band on the hat? The color and the band color looks different then the one in the video 3 years ago. What’s up?
@@andyfischetti same hat band. UV exposure from 3 years in the sun will do that to fabric
Nice!
Altra also do an extra-wide fit on some of their models. I have wide feet and it has caused me all sorts of problems. I had a pair of Superiors in x-wide… wonderful and comfortable, despite being only lightly padded. Wore them to death. I now have a pair of x-wide Lone Peaks, the fit isn’t quite right (slightly too large for my big feet!), but the level of comfort 😊
It’s a great hat. I like Akubra a lot and I own several. Sometimes the weather or the activity is too rough and I don’t want to put my favorite hat through that (it’s a vintage no longer made ‘Down Under’ model with a telescope crown) and that’s when my tough as nails indestructible Filson Tin Packer hat comes out to play. It laughs at rain and thorns and mud and burrs. If you are looking- it’s a good hat to have in a pinch. It will even fold up. 🤠
I've thought of other hats that would be more appropriate for these kind of adventures, and yes, crushable hats make sense. I've even tried some on, but weirdly it just doesn't feel right. It's stupid, I know because I'm putting an expensive hat through a beating.🤠
Where did you get that castle 😱😱😱
It's a 3d cardboard puzzle
When are you going to put more videos out on the castle project
I've been teaching 6th graders all year long. I did do one cool thing with them. We took a half day of school and I let them design their own version of what the add on section would look like. They cut styrofoam, glued it on, painted it, made trees and paper buildings. It was a lot of fun. I'm not going to use what they built but I will make a video on it to show their creative process.
Quite good!
Hi it’s me George from school I like how it’s going
As an REI member you had a year to return those
Military gas mask bags, and bread bags are so great, and often very affordable. I find especially the older ones good because they have vintage feel, and not some look modern person would associate with military like camo patterns, and so on necessarily. I personally would never buy expensive satchel so im very happy with old military ones just to carry water bottle, and some other daily items i might need
As a runner, what benefit do you get from such a high boot?
As a runner, none. I use it to hike in. My running shoes are Altras Olympus for trails. My running shoes for roads are Altras Escalantes
You got a hat face good for you
Where did you get the castle!
It's a 3D puzzle, but it's a pretty good quality on.

Amazing, well done.
U don’t suit that hat.
Cool beans
Mines just got back from 3 weeks on a tour of sunny Mexico, so this time it's got Aztecs, Maya, and Inca dust on it.
Great impersonation, thanks!
Super cool! Can't wait to see it once its done!
Awesome video! Thank you for sharing. Is this the Akubra Adventure hat in Mid Brown? Just curious. It looks grey in some shots and brown in others LOL? I’m Looking for a good Indiana Jones style hat.
It’s a mid brown. Weirdly photographs soft but is darker in person
@@rootieboy awesome! Going to order one. Thank you again for sharing. These vids were very helpful. Looking forward to making my own.
I'm thinking about doing another update after all of these years. The had is in great shape, but really looks like a well loved and used hat. @@bobward7508
That would be awesome! I’d love to see it.
Update. 3 years late I replaced this boot with the wide version. The reality is, it widens the entire boot, not just the toebox. I'm not loving the wide as much because it does not hug my foot in the center. It's great for the toes, but it feels off on the rest of the boot. I still love the boot, but I'd probably go back to regulars on my next purchase.
Awesome work. I just bought the game and instantly recognized Sagan's voice. I like to think of him as "Carl Kerman".
I just got this hat for Christmas. Bashed it myself. Can’t wait to get some sweat and dirt on it.
I've been using mine for everything, especially while digging my outdoor patio. I've realized how a nice hat like this can protect from skin cancer because it has such good coverage.
Wow ! What a fantasist job you’re doing. Don’t know if it’s feasible but swapping out that awful “light” on the Loco for a warm white / yellow LED would really set things off. Looking forward to finding the finished video, Very well done 😄👍🇦🇺
Have you finished this yet?
No. I moved cross country and finally pulled it out of storage to work on it
So the wides are just a wider toe back and not the whole shoe? I have what’s called Greek feet which means my big toe is more recessed vs the other toes. So my outer toes usually end up rubbing or my second toe if I don’t upsize. So I’m wondering if maybe a wider version would work good for me. Keens and Solomon’s usually work good for me while a narrow athletic shoe doesn’t work for me at all.
Interesting you ask. I actually just bought the wides about 2 weeks ago and found out that not only does the toe box feel wider, the entire shoe feels wider. I'm hoping as I break them in they will form a little better to the center of my foot which is much skinnier than my toe box. I have an extremely long second toe that is longer than all of my other toes, so I have the opposite problem you have.
@@rootieboy I meant my big toe is recessed vs the second but mot not all of the others but yeah sounds like you have a “Greek” foot too.
Hows your hat after 2 years? not seen a video from you in a while maybe time for an update, Mines still rocking the Egypt dust.
It's still going strong my friend. It's my go to. I swear it will last forever.
Why are you wearing a mask outside😂
It was at the beginning of the pandemic. It was common courtesy to put it on while passing by others on the more narrow trails. Other than that, it came off when we were clear of others.
Mines just got back from Cairo Luxor Aswan and Rome
Thats awesome! Well traveled. Mine suited me well in Paris this summer
Hi, do they overheat you feet in the warm weather ?
Not really. They aren't incredibly insulated. If you don't need a hiking boot and the ground is dry I would suggest a trail runner. I usually go for Altras for that.
@@rootieboy thanks, I appreciate it. Have a good day! I decided to go with the Firebrand 2. I kinda wanted a high top but the firebrands looked good.
Thank you for the review and even using a reference picture and adding a link to the site! I'm buying the bag now.
no problem.
Mines currently in Rome and is going around all the attractions tomorrow, today we were in Cairo at the Pyramids and a few days before that Luxor Karnak and Valley of the Kings. so its got proper Tomb and Cairo diastolic on it. :)
Mr. Root, where are our English folders. Manchester will find you …
Right where I left them. In the filing cabnet at the back of the classroom. You remember, right?
@@rootieboy that’s what we said in class, but apparently the cabinet wasn’t there. They did keep the brick wallpaper up though.
@@jaredmellinger5126 That's tragic. All of that work.
is it just me or does anyone alse think, that this hat does not fit his head. To me it looks oversized and the hatshape is to round for headshape. I pretty like how he likes his head and I'm happy for him because of that, but in my opinion, he should get a "long oval shape" with one or two numbers smaller. Maybe also a slightly narrower brim to fit his face.
It’s all good. I’ve actually reshaped the hat many times since. It’s now a more oval shape. The hat does fit perfectly though. Any smaller and it wouldn’t fit on my actual head 🙂
Do you have long arms or short ? Curious if I want to get a small or a medium. I'm 5'11 and I got a long reach
I've got long arms. I often have a hard time finding long sleeved shirts that match my arm length, but luckily this shirt the leaves go just short of my knuckles.
@@rootieboy thanks! I appreciate you . I was also curious what size jacket you recommend with someone the same build as yourself
@@tomsellec5712 I don't have a jacket yet, however, I'm somewhere inbetween a 36 and a 38 chest size. Like, right inbetween and they don't always make a 37.
Do you measure underneath the pointy part?
Right on the pointy part
Yes I have the official crappy one, had for mmany years. It'snot great, but it's fine. It's my travelling hat. As a primary school kid I'd wander around the garden with a yuge butcher's knife, in my khaki shirt with official Lucasfilm Fanclub Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom patch...and loved it!
There is nothing wrong with the bow on the hat band. That is very common and it is not an accident.
You did a great job voicing the intro
Wait. Hogwarts AND Morro Rock in one frame?! Amazing.
haha. Yeah, I was sitting on the beach after surfing and realized the rock kind of looked like a face, so I went home and painted it blowing a sailboat away from the shore
is this one roughly 10"x10" or 11"x11"? Great video.
I've never measured it. If it helps it is original. If I hold it up to my 13 inch macbook it appears to be 11x11 but that's just visual reference.
looks great when i am flying down to RIO
It’s not so much the hat as it is the actor. HF looks great in all of his movies
I now own an Akubra Adventurer (I had my brim trimmed 3/4in) AND a MK7 bag/strap. Thanks to you channel and excellent reviews!
You're welcome. I was really a beginner in Indy gear when I made these videos. There are so many people who have gear reviews and they've done their research. The one thing I really try to focus on is visual detail so you can really see the color and texture of the gear. I also use my hat and bag daily. They really are functional beyond costume use.
What color is that? Is this a Herbert Johnson fendora hat?
It's an Akubra, which is Australian and the Herbert Johnson Fedora was based off of the Australian style. I've handled a Herbert Johnson and it's beautiful, but also $550. I would wear the Herbert Johnson for fine dining, but I wouldn't put it through a beating. The Herbert Johnson is also quite flimsy, so I'd compare it to a tuxedo and the Akubra to the reality of what the hat would have to endure.
I got a tilley hat and quit looking.
Tilley hats for hiking make a lot of sense. They have great airflow and they are crushable so you can store them away. This is built more like a tough and rugged Australian cowboy hat that you'd wear working the ranch and for a night on the town. It's a beautiful hat that takes a beating.
@@rootieboy I have a paramount safari hat fedora very similar shape as the indy hat but still find the tilly on my head most often. You're a hat guy so I know you understand when you find that perfect fit it's hard to beat.
@@raybrock5917 After a while the right hat just molds to your head and becomes a part of you. It feels great and people begin to recognize it as a part of your identity.
I've never wanted to go hiking. This hat would make me go hiking.
You bought the hat and now you have to throw around a lot rub a lot of dirt on it get a lot of sweat on it
It's been there. Great thing about Akubra hats is that they are such good quality they take a beating and still look beautiful. I fell in the river the other day on my hike and I just set it upside down on my counter for the night and it was ready to go the next day. The gold logos on the leather band are almost worn away after 2 years with the hat but the hat itself looks like new.
How would you say running with this boot is? Does it get super hot or does the ventilation do good? How about the ankle support when you end up landing poorly while running and almost twisting your ankle? Is the waterproofing good?
They are too heavy and clunky for running. I would go with a running boot by Altra or other racing brands
@@rootieboy For context I currently wear Red Wings King Toe ADC and they are about five pounds. Not there intended purpose but I can run about a quarter mile in them before I need to take a breather. Hiking and general use would be my main priority with these boots, running on the side.
@@burhansecvr7665 I mean, I can run in them if necessary. I'm a runner, so I'd say they are a hell of a lot lighter than what you are wearing. They also are not bulky. Some of the slimmest and sturdiest hiking boots I've owned.
The “stripes” are called epaulets
I thought the straps on the shoulder were Epaulets
