Aldgate Junction is way of Aldgate East District and Metropolitan Lines from Aldgate then end of 1882 Aldgate Junction appears in Finchley Road or Baker Street. in 1884 Aldgate and Aldgate East and Baker Street goes to somewhere Aldgate Junction in Liverpool Street to Aldgate Junction. Sometimes District Line Aldgate East in Aldgate Circle Line.
no such thing as the "suburb of kensington" its a borough and the smallest in Greater London- Kensington and Chelsea. So the question is nonsensical, you need to include all stations in the borough. Historically, it was part of middlesex and is a fairly recent construct. If what you are doing is counting stations that have "kensington" in their title that is different ....maybe you meant to say the "parish of Kensington". That excludes the chelsea parish boundary which was merged with it to make the new borough.
Why the waterloo and city line go station very slow
what did you use to make the extension map?
I need to know, it looks so good
This video is full of mistakes and inaccuracies including the real reason for rebuilding Aldgate East station and the map of the track layout for the original Aldgate East station that frankly looks impossible. Also, there's no mention at all of the quite amazing engineering feat in the construction of the present Aldgate East station in 1938 necessary to keep the District Line operational during the work by propping its tracks up on huge wooden tressles as the site of the new platforms (7 ft lower than the original level) was carved out either side, the new station being brought into use over one weekend when steel cables suspended from large rings in the ceiling were wrapped round the tracks to allow the tressles to be removed, allowing the entire length of track from beyond each end of the new station to be dropped into place. This is the reason for the steep gradients either side of the present Aldgate East station. The rings in the station's ceiling are still visible there and photos of this event that are easily available.
Wonderful explanation!! 👍👏🏽👏🏽
Great video, MAX London Productions. Looking forward to your next upload! I tapped that thumbs up icon on your content. Keep up the fantastic work. Your exploration of the complexities surrounding Disneyland Paris and its transportation history was captivating. What do you think the future holds for cross-border rail services post-Brexit, especially considering the recent changes in travel regulations?
It is Awesome Akshay happy to see the Dtation ma Patti
I would have done it by extending the elizabeth line from woolwich creating a new branch the service would go From Woolwich and then one stop further down to thamesmead central I also would have wanted a overground extension Connecting from barking riverside thamesmead central Belvedere and erith connecting way more connectivity to southeastern london I also would like a southeastern extension from Woolwich arsenal to thamesmead central following the elizabeth line tracks And i think the dlr extension is useless my opinion elizabeth would create more connectivity to central london while Southeastern creates better station terminuses and southern london and overground for nprthern london and connecting with other rail links
My 1st house in london was near Dagenham Dock C2C. Oval road South Dagenham RM10.
Thamesmead now has the SL3 Superloop and the 472 which takes 10 mins to get to Abbey Wood so I'd argue it doesn't even need the DLR.
472 is 24/hr service + In south thamesmead (yarntonway) u can go through 180 to abbeywood.
Cheddington is a nice spot between the Chilterns and the Bedfordshire Greensand Ridge. I remember seeing a class 25 going through there light engine.
14:43 Wow, there used to be another office there at this exact view, i worked there..good memories.
Awesome Akshay u did a very good job ma
Awesome!! Great job!! ❤
Nice to dream ! it would cossed billions of pounds to build , Historicaly the railway was ment too run from chingford to WA via hightbeach which was a populer victorain day out for londoners it would have had its station at the juntion of farm hill and broomstick hall rd not far from the Nobel fractory in waltham abbey ... now in the 21st centry we need better bus , the local authority did as TFL to externd the red bus up swerdstone rd to WA as an alternitive to cars and having to pay ULEZ this was bluntly turned down by TFL . Many in waltham abby and people move here value its isolation from london and its drug crime and gang culture. they also move to WA becouse of good schools and envroment and the M25 , Night tube to loughton is of little use to WA and is assocated with county lines drug running and several case of cook cooing in WA of vonrable people , so transpor has very negative side the bus's just need to run later be cheaper and more frequant ,
I still think that the DLR should extend to Thamesmead. Thamesmead wouldn’t mind having a DLR extended and to have a new DLR station built at Thamesmead with the option to extend it to Abbey Wood.
This video would be a lot better if you cut out the advert for the scam Jack the Ripper museum.
everyone's got to pay the bills. let him be
I was a signalman at Aldgate in the sixth.
In general, I do not find the London Underground that creepy but Aldgate takes the biscuit 😱!
Absolutely love this video! Wow. I wish they acc listened to such a proposal. Although I must say I am slightly disappointed there was still no mention of a centralised south London line going through Streatham, Thornton Heath/Norbury, West/Central Croydon, Purley then maybe either Redhill via couldson & merstham or Caterham via Warlingham! Would love to know your thoughts!
If you want to find out more about the Jack the Ripper case, do NOT go to the Jack the Ripper Museum. There are many problems with it, including many historical innacuracies. The best way to find out about the case is to watch Vlogging Through History's reaction to Lemino's video on the topic
Agreed. As Jago Hazzard seems to intimate in one of his videos, the Jack the Ripper Museum is a total Rip Off.
It is not called Aldgate Junction. The northern junction is called Aldgate Junction, the eastern Aldgate East Junction, and the southern Minories Junction.
I know but for simplicity I'm classifying the entire junction as Aldgate Junction
@@avglondonproductions9225 Might have been better to refer to them as something like "the Aldgate junctions" -- technically accurate but also hardly longer than the term you used.
@@avglondonproductions9225 If someone is going to watch a 10 minutes plus video about this place where the Metropolitan Railway and Metropolitan District Railway meet, I'm guessing that they are nerdy enough to want to know what the north-west, south-west and east junctions are actually called. 😀
The river bus pier is probably the most immediate thing that could be done, though I'm not sure how optimised the boats are as a method of commuting. They may even have tour guides on'em for all I know. I personally think that extending the DLR to Abbey Wood before heading further east would split the traffic out of Thamesmead two ways at least. Additionally, you didn't visit 'Wertham' or where Alex kicked the crap out of a tramp.. .
First class graphics and illustrations and excellently explained!
08:22 That is not a "Police Post Box." That is a "Police Call Point" this simply a Police Phone Box, a smaller version of the larger "Tardis" boxes These smaller one just had a telephone inside a small locked box, with the normal blue lamp on top for the police operator to contact the beat constable. These where used in the days before personal radios.
Nahhhhhh following the southeastern nahhhh this extension is better brixton Streatham hill Streatham
The reason for moving Aldgate East station was not because of tight curves, but to move the eastern junction further east so that the distances between the three junctions were all long enough to accomodate a train. Thus a train could wait on the triangle for the junction ahead to clear without blocking the junction behind - so for example a westbound District train could wait for a Circle to clear the junction ahead without holding up a following H&C.
Lots of fascinating detail, as usual. I assume that the flat junctions are the reason that the general frequencies on the Circle and H&C are very 10 minutes (though I note that in the peaks they manage slighly better than this). Do you think there would be room for an underpass for say the H&C westbound line under Aldgate station, descending steeply from Aldgate East and then ascending less steeply to join the Circle/Met lines nearer Liverpool Street station? Unlike the similar 'duck-under' beteen High-St Ken and Earl's Court, it would only avoid one flat junction, but might be better than nothing ...
During Engineering Works, Hammersmith & City line trains can reverse off the Outer Circle platform.
3:09 Well that's a fantastic bit of trivia about the H&C line.
Interesting video. And make sure you give credit to Carto Metro for their map.
I worked in the signal cabin there in 1961-1962 it was a busy cabin but not as busy as Edgware Road which I also worked. I had a great time working on the underground until management changes working conditions and that’s when morale plummeted and it was then my time to go.
Your diagram truly show why Aldgate Jct. is such a fruitful source for delays.
what, the man is using nimby rail for map
I always found it curious, when heading for Aldgate East, to see Aldgate station as you passed it.
Group of us went to London back in 2019, 2 rail enthusiasts, 2 not so, one ambivalent. We were staying in Whitechapel and had an event in Kew one day so District line direct, easy, so on we all got. Except by the time we'd progressed much along the Circle/District joint line, the train turned in to a Circle Line so we had to change. Non-enthusiasts were not happy, and of course tried blaming us for getting on the wrong train in the first place, and evidence that trains were shit, both at the same time.
Ok? Not sure what the point of your story is….
@@TheMusicalElitist because in the video a comment was made about how trains sometimes swap lines whilst they're in the Central "loop". I gave a specific example of when it happened to me. But there we go, never mind, nice to have met you. Love to the family x
@@garethaethwyLOL your response is so good
@user-vz8yb3vd9m No, it swapped from District to Circle after passing Aldgate East.
Its possible they just had a crew change at aldgate east or one down west, obviously it isnt optimal but when its clearly logged one can just not shut down the cab while changing, it would also be making sense as sometkmes that helps to maximise workhours/minimise training costs as that employee walks over to the other plattform and then drives it back east on the district
Nice video I like your presentation style.
Rather than building an underpass between the 2 stations, you could just extend all Hammersmith and City services to Upminster and cut some District services to Barking
why doesn't the metropolitan line continue to tower hill? replace that junction with a rail roundabout.
Too much rail traffic coming in from and going away to East London, District and Hammersmith & City, all using the same tracks. Trains on both lines to/from the east already have to stop at signals for sometimes extended periods. Technically no reason why the Met shouldn't continue to Tower Hill using the same tracks as the Circle but delays to the other services would increase. Not sure what you mean by railway roundabout but if you have used any services traversing this junction you will know that the 'triangle' referred to is not open space. The tracks thread through various substructures supporting buildings, roads and bridges. Do-able certainly but the cost benefit ratio wouldn't justify the expense
No such thing. Now be quiet.
Because the line through Tower Hill is already running at full capacity. You could only run more trains on the south side of the District by reducing the District Line service or scrapping the Circle Line. Basically, you have to fit in four trains every 10 minutes on each arm (towards Barking, towards Victoria, and towards Baker Street). The present arrangement has 3 District and an H&C towards Barking, 3 District and a Circle towards Victoria, and 2 Met, a Circle and an H&C towards Baker Street. Change any of those and you need to change the others as well. For instance you could remove the Met from the equation and run equal numbers on each other line, but then you have too many going to Paddington via Kings Cross and not enough going to the western branches of the District.
I miss when the 40 used to go to Aldgate.
Someone I Know Loves Platform 3 IDK Why. Platform 3 Goes To Wimbledon Richmond Or Ealing Broadway. Some Hammersmith And City Go From Platform 3 But Mostley Platform 6
Great video 👏🏽👏🏽
The first part certainly was. The bit about the Jack the Rip-off Museum, less so.

10:01 reckon the trains TPWS intervened and made the train completely stop? Seems a bit odd that it came to a complete stop when only a yellow aspect for a diverging signal was there
Yeah it is weird
The Victoria line is perfect as it is! It has connections with different lines and transport modes at every station aside from Pimlico. I’d only accept an extension to Crystal Palace only
If you're going to extend the Victoria Line to Crystal Palace.....you might as well have it go all the way to Croydon. Or more specifically - East Croydon station. Finishing at Crystal Palace wouldn't make any sense at all.
@ I know east Croydon is underrepresented by underground services, but keeping in mind the Victoria line is a rapid line comparative to all others in London, it would be difficult to justify this over loss of frequency and timing to north east London.
@taiterobinson793 I take your point somewhat, but bear in mind the Victoria Line is just one single line without any destination splits or small stubs running off the main part; so it would still make the trains very frequent. It just might push it up to every 2 and a half minutes, rather than every 90 seconds. That's still very good! And better then most other Underground lines. Also, this extension to East Croydon would I guess have a maximum of five new stops (including East Croydon) to minimise journey times. Any more then this and yes, it would become considerably slower - both in length of journeys, and frequency of trains.
WE NEED THE DISTRICT AND NORTHERN TO GO CLAPHAM JUNCTION WHOS WITH ME????
northern line extension could happen if crossrail 2 eventually happens but DISTRICT LINE EXTENSION TO CLAPHAM JUNCTION? you lost me there mate
@@HarrowwInk why it could create links
And crossrail can be faster
The Northern Line, definitely. All that needs to be done is to extend it one stop beyond Battersea Power Station. It wouldn't make any sense to have the District Line go there though. But would make perfect sense for it (CJ) to have a Northern Line station.
Just make the foot tunnel 4 times wider!
