Can anyone tell me why Douglas bikes were so quiet, when so many others of that time, even ones that had exhaust dampers were so much louder?
kereeen👍
breathtaking. how do you seat the cyl block onto boiler with the studs splayed in 2 dimesions--larger holes. And you use an oiled felt gasket between the two.
🤩🤩🤩🤩
Just watched Reach for the Sky with Kenneth More. In the film's first scene he is riding an original one of these (PK 475) which you get a good look at side-on. Sorry to say so, but one of you has the tank decals very slightly wrong, lol. At least, they're slightly different... _yours and his._ Mind you, yours is a damned sight tidier. A real beauty! Just thought you might want to know?
Mantan dab
What a beautiful old bike it is, would love to ride it.
amazing , old motorbike but still okey all.( bagus banget ) , hai i am living in bataam indonesia.
I take it the fuel tank has been re- painted, where did you get the transfers for oiling instructions, name etc. ?
.classictransfers.co.uk they keep loads of different ones.
Who's drawings did you use?
Lovely job, can I ask who's drawings you used and how did you find them for accuracy?
Fred dibnah would be beaming with smile
Like BMW, Douglas extensively used horizontally-opposed twin-cylinder engines. Unlike BMW, this engine sat fore and aft in the frame.
It looks a perfect job to me... Congratulations.
That looks an absolutely perfect job to me, on what would have been a rare machine seventy or more years ago. An absolute gem...
That bike is beautiful, if it was mine iwould only ride it the first sunday of every spring and maybe easter weekend
Beautiful, I want it!:)
Have you still have the engine john ?
Just started to build one of these myself - these photos will be a great help, many thanks.
211cc seems to be a very unusual capacity for the engine.
No it's not. Honda 50 = 49cc Honda 175 = 174cc. They're all like that.
thanks for information regarding paint how's the engine
do u still have the engine part x it for wife
was the granville black sprayed or brushed on , and did you do cylinder in the same paint
Hi the Granville cylinder black was thinned with cellulose thinners and sprayed on. The cylinder is just painted with enamel paint with a brush .
if you don't mind me asking, how much do you think you spent to complete her? iv been looking at kits but your talking £17k+ unfortunately.
Thanks for replying have 3inch burrell at mo wanna 4 inch
Is it for sale ?
+Teabag Teabag Hi sorry its not for sale at the moment bu may be next year
Very nice. I have just ordered the drawings today for a 4" Burrell and a 4" Foster. Not sure which engine I shall be building yet but it will be one of these two. Was this built from castings or was it a SYW kit?
Highland Hovercraft Hi I built it from castings and frabricated parts,If you look at my other videos there is one with a lot of photos on of making the parts.Ken

Love the engine . Where is the best place to get castings fore a 4" burrell ? I've built a 1/2 size David brown crop master from scratch and up loaded to UA-cam ,but not shore wether I can build a burrell ,
Hi there, lovely build! Very well done and well.finiahed! I was wondering, when bending the spokes, how did you do it? A press break? Or a jig? Im debating which to use at the moment, as im building a 4 inch burrell using John Rex designs and parts... Im currently putting the front wheels together, before the owner of the engine buys a CE marked boiler...
when machining the shaft tubes, or other parts which span the inside of the horn plates. Do you do it to drawing, or measure the exact overall width of the boiler, to be totally accurate?
I think you know my grandad, Harry Andrews.
Looks great:)
Ford Garnet Red in 2 pack.
