      Not necessarily :) Most wines have sulphites - even if it just a small amount since it naturally occurs on many fruits.

    What is happening to French wine. Relative recent vintages seem to lack body or be more acidic. I assume that the climate has become more North African that the grapes are ripening prematurely or holding lass moisture.

    • @understandingwines9181
      @understandingwines9181 8 місяців тому

      It's definitely the climate, but I hate to say, it's also the consumers. The original French styles don't appeal to modern drinkers anymore.

    Great video. Is there white Merlot wine? Is Merlot considered a type of grape or a blend of wine?

    • @understandingwines9181
      @understandingwines9181 Рік тому

      Merlot is a type of grape. So for instance - Pink Lady apples and Granny Smith are both apples, they're just different types of apples with different flavours. It's the same with grapes. You can make a white Merlot. All you have to do is prevent the skins from coming into contact with the juice of the grapes. I discuss that in more detail in my videos on winemaking: ua-cam.com/video/sS1zbr_fakU/v-deo.html

    First of all, compliments for the different videos! Good and clear information, accessible and playful. You bring it convincingly and with inspiration. I have been following south African wines for many years. White, red, sparkling, late harvest, fortified etc. There were always good and interesting wines. But with the arrival of a new generation of winemakers, it's just getting more exiting. With more grapes varieties and wine areas highlighted. These winemakers and their wines deserve attention and they receive that attention! I enjoyed watching this video with great pleasure.

      @@understandingwines9181 It's nice that my comment gives you a good feeling. There is certainly a lot of progress and what is still going on! I remember very well that south African wine was mainly mentioned here in the Netherlands, when it came to cheap wine. Fortunately, that picture has changed completely. Under the influence of a new generation of exiting and authentic wines. By newcomers and established names. And the wine lover is willing to pay extra for these quality wines. Attention is also important for the old vineyards in south Africa. Mapped by Rosa Kruger. Vineyards that are invaluable. This is how the past is connected to the future. Quality rather than quantity!

  • @Postdisclosureworld

    Screw caps are bad for the environment. I’d also argue that 10% of a product going to waste also seems like it’s inherently bad for the environment.

      I understand the environmental argument completely. And unfortunately the wine industry is not at the top of the sustainability movement. However, when it comes to the quality and longevity of wine, this is a common debate. So the argument was mainly around that aspect.
