Introduction to Yerba Mate
Переглядів 823Рік тому
Just the basics. And yes, I am aware I keep saying "mate" when I mean "yerba". This is just a bad habit picked up from being in English speaking countries.. :) Also, the person who makes the mate is the "cebador"; a "matero" is just someone who loves yerba mate.. But what do you expect from a one-take video by a bloke with a tenuous grasp of Spanish... :D urushop.co.uk/

Recent subscriber here. Another YTPC presenter shouted you out a few days back. Can't recall who, but glad he did. Thanks for sharing with us the wonderful generosity you received. Beautiful pipes!
Filson is good, but I definitely agree with your points. I’ve got the lined version which does significantly improve upon some of the issues. Not very smart in appearance. You couldn’t dress it up or down like you could a Barbour jacket, which isn’t a drawback but just a point to be made 👍 Barbour isn’t as hard wearing or shall I say doesn’t feel as hard wearing but you’d struggle to wear out either one 🤙
Hello from Florida in the US. @TheGentlemanScholar mentioned you recently. I am your newest subscriber. I am a fairly new ytpc presenter. Happy to have found your channel. Cheers!
Totally agree about the HU blends , amazing 🤙
Another great video and I’ve been with you most of those 10years. I believe both of us have extended our gray hair count over that timeframe😂. I do truly enjoy your videos and would welcome the chance to one day chat about life’s biggest questions over a couple pints and bowls of tobacco. If I’m ever across the pond, I’ll reach out. Be well mate and keep the content coming!
Hello very nice pipe and tabacco, thanks for sharing. Greetings from Austria 👋🔥☁️☁️
It's a working theory regarding the zero stem notation but I'm happy to be corrected if there is another reason for it.
Hello Leo, I don't know anything about Dunhill marks. On Dunhill is a stamp LBS F/T Made in England 13 4A . Do you know anything oft it? Best regards Kai
The pipe must made in the 90th or earlyer.
@kaiso4939 Hey Kai. WhatsApp me some photos of all the markings. Could be 1973, could be earlier. The F/T means it's a fishtail bit, the other markings I'd need to research a little
@@TheAmbulatoryAnarchist Thank you Leo!
Good to see you posting more regularly, mate! 0:35
Generosity goes to generosity , i was the recipient of your Frankenblend and other tobacco samples before you went to PNG , i now regularly order Nashville county and HU tobaccos as a result
Hello sir, I also lost touch of a few people in the past few years. I tried to get back in touch with some of them... I should try again. I wonder what will happen in the next few years with Trump being in office. One of is last remark was trying to get Canada as the 51st state of US. I am canadian and that is a bit scary since you never know what stupid thing will come out of his mouth to get. What is also scary is that some canadians are actually happy about that. It is going to be special few years (special not in a good way! Take Care!!
We chatted a bit pre-PNG, but I think it was through YT chat. And don't sell yourself short - you are a splendidly atypical grumpy man. 🤣 I'm also a curmudgeon, so I would disagree about the universality of human kindness and generosity. Some people have it, many do not. Personal connections of some kind seem to be the key to me. I hope things in the EU holds out - we are hoping to move (escape?) there in 3-4 years.
You make complete sense to me, guv'nor!
Hello sir, That's a great YABO indeed! Enjoy the smokes! Take care!
It's as if they made it confusing so a bunch of old guys to get together to smoke pipes, drink, ponder and discuss the possible meanings of the stamping for hours on end!😁😄🤣
Awesome stuff from a great guy to a great guy!
Yes, date stamps can be puzzling…I get there’s different numbers for shapes, finishes etc. , but for actual dates why don’t they keep it simple, like for 1980 how about a 1980 stamp, instead of all these weird codes you have to decipher ? 🤷♂️ .. as for folks liking you Leo , even if they have very different political views to yours (and mine) , I’d say it’s because you come across as a genuine nice fella. Hopefully we’ll meet up one day , have a bowl or two and put the world to rights 🤙
very generous from Tree, the Sav is the 673KS, otherwise known as the Friday Savinelli made famous by Matches860. That's a 1940 Dunhill billiard (1920 +20 the number next to ENGLAND is how many years after 1920) What a great box, Enjoy
@londoncallingwithsimon6817 hey simon. Awesome! So I also own the famous Friday Sav! I dated the dunhill as 1980 as there is an underscore under the 20. Though there are anomalies I'm researching. So the number is 5003. 5 is group number, 03 shape. The second digit is usually the stem type, but these are only 1 and 2, not a 0. Also can't find a shape code "EX". So I'm still confused at this point . 😆 Thanks for the info!
@ sorry it’s 1920 + 20 so it’s 1940
@@londoncallingwithsimon6817 following pipepedia's guide, it would be 1980 pipedia.org/wiki/A_Dunhill_Pipe_Dating_Guide#A_Dunhill_Pipe_Dating_Guide, as the "20" is underscored and smaller than the "D" of "Made in England"
WhottaHAUL!
Hello Leo. Thanks for sharing your generous gifts. I wish you many happy smokes. Be well.
Leo. Your welcome my friend i,m glad you liked them, Tree
Mate, absolutely stunned, seriously. Thanks again so much, brother
So generous, isn’t the shape a pot’ ?
@@davidthompson1622 billiard, I think
Having researched a little more, I think the shape is actually called the Liverpool. I am currently going down a rabbit hole looking at Dunhill dates and nomenclature. I'll do an update video when I have some info
Hello Leo, congratiolation for your fist Dunhill!👍 I can bay two old Dunhill for 100 Euro in summer of 2022. One oft them looks like your Dunhill. Kai from Soest
Wow, what a package of pipes. I could be wrong but I don't think Dunhill had metal tubes in 2020. It's more likely the older dating system. Starting 1960, so 60 plus 20 equals 1980.
Very nice pipe, thanks for sharing 👋🔥☁️☁️
I do not understand what occidental countries have not learned from what happened this past 100 years and more. So many population suffered in so many countries for reasons difficult to comprehend. We kept our eyes closed on genosides or at the least responded way too late so many times, just think of Serbia, Rwanda, Cambodia. Now, we all know that this is happening live... and our governments are lettting it happened for geopolitical reasons. As you said, I wonder what future generations will say about us. Take care!
It's a damn shame that the only Filson stuff still made in USA is the Mackinaw wool jackets and shirts. Even the Tin cruisers are made in Bangladesh by wage slaves now.
Well said Leo , 100% spot on , right thinking people are finding this horror show in Palestine unbelievable/shocking , like Malcolm X said - beware of the media, the most powerful tool in the world, if you’re not careful the media will have you believing the bad guys are the good guys and the good guys the bad guys’ …… , as for these so called Journalists’ from the likes of the BBC, Daily mail etc who are complicit, these people are usually very well educated, well paid, sitting very comfortably while they put out a constant stream of hatred towards any minorities etc. , but never directed at the real super rich crooks and corporations holding the real power…. I’d like to see some of those ‘Journalists’ up against it, worrying for their safety etc.
We are living on The Dark Timeline. 6:47
Im trying to come across a review that isnt having the person drink more than they speak. Lol
I have lots of Filson clothing and I listened to your entire review. Sounds like to me you purchased the wrong jacket. You bought a work jacket made to protect you from moisture and thorns and have an expectation that it’s a winter jacket. Maybe get a winter jacket instead? I’ve noticed people are buying these jackets as a trendy fashion item and then complain that it doesn’t meet their bistro needs. I have the tin cruiser, wool lined tin vest, tin work vest, short lined cruiser (for working with a a tool belt), wool mackinaw cruiser, two wool mackinaw vests, wool jacket liner, multiple tin hats (lined and unlined) and one of their First Nations hand knit sweaters. What I’ll tell you is; if you don’t use your clothing as tools, maybe don’t spend the money. I go deep in the forest, often times alone. I don’t want my stuff failing (not just clothing). If you go compare clothes look at the weight of the fabric. Tin cloth is 14 oz fabric before it’s waxed. Their leather is true top grain leather. Barber jackets are literally half the weight fabric so they’re not “just as good” if you’re looking for ruggedness. Go read the specifications for yourself, you can find them in 30 seconds. Lastly, complaining about the brim of that not being big enough; again, you chose that hat. If you wanted a larger brim, they sell one. It’s called the bush hat. Now, if you think i sound like a Filson fanboy, please consider this; I bought a tin cruiser (same jacket featured here in this video) ten years ago. I log and mill lumber in them and I wear it out in about three years. I send it back to Filson asking for a repair. They send me a brand new jacket. I’m on my third one and about to be on my fourth in that timeframe. So I’ve gotten three jackets for the original price. I don’t know of any other company making such a rugged jacket and stands behind it like they do. Go look up wranglerstar and his video on tin pants. He gets a new pair every year from his original purchase. I think he’s on like his tenth pair. Your issue is, you’re using the wrong tool and complaining about the price. Have fun at the bistro looking like a logger.
@samadams9557 I'm a forester of 30 years, you absolute tool. Working around the world and in many climates. I've worn my Filson gear while surveying and cutting timber in the UK. Thornproof and hard wearing is the only thing they are, but they make you sweat like a horse and are probably best suited to a drier cold, not a wet one. Otherwise, they're overpriced and not worth the money. It's my review and opinion, so maybe wind your neck in a bit
@@TheAmbulatoryAnarchist then you should know better.
@samadams9557 I do. That's why I don't recommend them. Especially since they moved production to Bangladeshi and Vietnamese sweat shops. So have fun paying those prices for something you can't even laud for being a 'murican product.
This is a very very Good yerba! Whats you favorite top three? Hugs from Brazil
I was blown away the sweetness that came through. I also tasted how bitter it can be when the water is too warm.
It's 6:43am in Colorado, and I'm enjoying a cup right now.
I just started drinking, Yerba Mate, and it is phenomenal! I have drank a lot of coffee daily for many years and I am so glad I switched just yesterday.
Playadito is what I picked up.
Great video! Wished you would have mentioned sizing, is it true to size?
Hi Leo, great review. I need to try the one with herbs. 🌿 Bert is lovely. 😊 Cheers, Ross
@ICHIBANDIPPER happy to send you some, fella. I probably won't drink the rest of this, and I also have some Canarias Serena, which I rate highly that you can have.
Waiting for La Merced's review, thats a fantastic yerba
Uploading now!
Rain, sleet, snow. I prefer the liner is so basic and not a flannel. If it gets wet you don't really have to worry so much about drying it out. Same thing with the pockets. Do you want wet pockets? I bought this as a durable jacket that will repel rain. If I want a liner and such there's Thursday or Flint and Tinder waxed jackets.
Hey Leo, good to see you! The problem I see with the notion of wokeness is when it enters the sanctimonious phase i.e. self-righteous tesla drivers who've bought hook, line and sinker the greenwash of their 60% fossil fuel, 18% nuclear, 6% hydro, 11% wind and 3% solar powered badge of 'holier than thou.' The other point of concern which few raise re gender issues is the burgeoning billion dollar medical/pharmaceutical industry of transitioning drugs and procedures along with the massive normalization campaigns of the symptomatic dysphoria (funded by the same industries) due to the abundance of endocrine disruptors from agricultural to healthcare products, Atrazine, glyphosate, BPAs, PFAS etc, that shit is everywhere and it's been taking a large and obvious toll on developing children for the last 2-3 decades. Rather than address the cause, the parasite class creates a lucrative and often tragic 'cure.' Some may have more faith in those industries, but after doing A LOT of digging and discussing, It's clear to me and the investors who advise on these medical/pharma corps, this is engineering a market and creating customers who are often in dire straits. An example, a large corporation has moved into ME, about 12 years ago IIRC, bought up and consolidated most health care providers in the state. By all accounts they are horrific, doctors/nurses fleeing in droves while administrators increased by 2500%. It's an absolute sham. Now, said corporation has a state representative on its board of directors who recently wrote a bill declaring ME a "sanctuary state" meaning any minor brought across state lines for transitioning drugs or procedures by an adult, even if against parental wishes, that adult is immune from prosecution. This was the bill's language, written by said rep and board member for Northern Light 'healthcare' (the largest sponsor to the lgbt parades/fairs here, that I saw, simply buttering up customers!): "Prohibitions- A law enforcement agency may not knowingly make or participate in the arrest or participate in any extradition of an individual pursuant to an out-of-state arrest warrant for violation of another state's law against providing, receiving or allowing a child to receive gender-affirming health care or gender-affirming mental health care in this State, if that care is lawful under the laws of this State, to the fullest extent permitted by federal law. A state or local law enforcement agency may not cooperate with or provide information to any individual (i.e. parent) or out-of-state agency or department regarding the provision of lawful gender-affirming health care or gender-affirming mental health care performed in this State." This is the pharma and medical industries attempting to create a market here in Maine, a specialty pilgrimage site really. Bill has thus far not passed. The way this whole agenda came down the pipeline, in global sync should tell us much. The endocrine disruptor problem is real, it is rampant and it is being covered up with DEI wokeness. Don't believe me, give PubMed and the medical servers a search, give Dr Shanna Swan an ear for a spell. ua-cam.com/video/OJNcV12xJfw/v-deo.html To even say this is to bring on the wrath of the woke fundamentalist. Bottom line for me personally, just the old school: if you're a decent person of ANY color or persuasion, you have my respect and I have your back. And for the record: here in the US and I suspect most established countries, the right and left are of the same parasite class that has always clawed it's way to dominion over the Earth and its plebs. It's time to depolarize, try it next time in a heated or not so heated political debate, point out both sides are shit and most times you'll quickly be faced with a human again rather than an entrenched repeater unit! Plebs unite, there is ONE class of parasite running us into the ground, on all fronts. Well, you asked what we thought Leo!:)
To be honest, there is another method witch is not as popular but it is much easier to do. You put a spoon of erva inside cuya and then fill water til the narrowest part of the neck of cuia. then you put a lot of yerba to fill it up and just slowly insert bomba in one corner. Move bomba a bit to form space for for water similar as with traditional method, add more water and after second refill you basically get same result as with the traditional method. Here is the video where that method is used ua-cam.com/users/shortsqM61Nlew85Y
Nice Review. Been drinking Yerba Mate for about 17 years. To be honest I got tired of Smoked Yerbas and Kraus is very lovely company witch I can call my Bread and Butter of Yerbas. My one of all time favorite Yerba was CANARIAS Yellow Package. I just love the creamy texture it has. Learned one nice trick if you want something similar but unsmoked - Try Mixing Yerbas. I take unsmoked Argentinian yerbas and usually mix it with little of Brazillian Yerba like Yacui or Barao Premium and the result is - similar to PU1 cut as Uruguayan mates tend to be. You simply add that dust that gives this creamy grassy taste later without the smoky notes.
Any way to get in Scotland if anyone knows 😊
Hello Leo, I was not the type of person afraid of the future. I always thought that progress would find a way to get through. But for the past decade or so, with the election of Trump, I began to wonder where we were going as a civilisation. Conservatism didn't only become more popular in the US, but in a lot of other countries (Canada included). I think we have about the same age. Like you, I saw and live and grow in gender, race and diversity tolerance. We saw reconciliation between population/people (for example: the breaking of the Berlin wall, the end of Apartheid). I do not consider myself climato-anxious, or futur-anxious but I wonder what will reverse the tide of this grow of conservatism. I do not know if I will see it in what I have left in my lifetime. Best wishes my friend!
Life was never simpler. Fucking nostalgia trap. Punching down is about fear of change. 14:37
Thank you Leo. My heart needed this. Living in a "red" state here in the US and feeling surrounded by ignorant small minded idiots, it does me well to hear a level headed conversation in this regard. I'm not much for labels either, but was touched when our friend TimberDrifter called me a Progressive. I certainly fit that mold and wear it proudly. Having served on a Diversity committee for many years I just can't get my head around how it could be looked down upon. I shall continue down the road, kind, compassionate and woke as hell. Be well my friend, Stephen
Hear, f-ing hear! This is not about being on the right or left, it is about being a decent human being. I grew up in a small rural town and I just did not understand what people were so afraid of. Personally, I don’t hate liberals but they do often disappoint me. Capitalism, being the dominant economic system, so much relies on creating minority enemies to kick down on, that is why we have to abandon capitalism as the dominent economic framework. Be well my friend. Emil
@@TinFoilHatPipeDude I feel those who throw the word “woke” around as an insult mostly do not understand that liberal and progressive are two different things. Much less that neoliberalism is Henry Ford’s wet dream come true. Diversity, equity, and inclusion for the purposes of economic gain don’t seem to be very lofty ideals to me, either. On their own, absolutely. But it seems the only way we make things matter in the US is if we can boil it down to “return on investment”.
I get where you're coming from. Like any concept, it's extremes that ruin it. By that I mean that the concepts are well intentioned and valid but not always so much the way they're executed.
I generally agree - I feel like talking about the concept of "woke" lends validity to the ridiculous label. I'm just a crabby Gen-X dude that doesn't like labels generally. DEI is the new CRT, and it goes on and on - just racists being racists. Be who you want to be, I'll respect you - but I might just nod and walk away if you scream at me that your pronoun is "butterfly" or something like that. Not a big fan or right wing c#nts myself either. Had to comment though - all 3 comments so far are from the U.S. Pacific Northwest, a hotbed of dissention.

Abso-fucking-lutely well said! My god. I wish I were as well-stated as you are. Thank you for sharing this!!
Well Leo my friend! I quite fucking agree...I just usually don't say it quite so frankly! The world is going to progress, we just need to decide how we want it to....for all or just for some? The alternatives to "wokeness" are intolerable to me: childish, ignorant, backward, selfish, hateful, rude, self-centered, non-inclusive, unawares and "asleep"! All things I try to purge from myself, from childhood....as you've said! Thank you for so eloquently speaking your mind! Take care, Corey
