The Gullane Girl | A Links Diary film
There are currently 52 caddies signed up to Gullane Golf Club's official caddie programme. 51 of them are men. Abercrombie Nisbet’s story is both inspiring and a testament to breaking barriers in a traditionally male-dominated role.
"I know the course like the back of my hand. When it comes to caddying I know lines, the bunkers and just being a player you know the etiquette a bit more."

Whether it's fate, or just luck, connections which result in the revelation of something entirely unexpected are often the catalyst of a great story. The mystery of a long-lost links on the windswept Northumbrian coast, designed by one of golf's greatest; a young lad playing with his family in the high, sandy dunes of 1970's Lindisfarne. A string of coincidences that will seem contrived, but ma...

Presumably he had a nickname as shouting Duck in that scenario would've caused pandemonium. Looks a cracking place to visit. Thank you for your service
Love to see this! Great story and a nice watch 📹
Many thanks indeed 😊
Great courses and great story all the best out there
Real shame the Duck's hotel is no more , it has been butchered into a trendy woke establishment. 😢
Brilliant video Abby👏🏻 Wish it was longer, would loved to have heard more

Great video, sadly sexism is still SO prevalent, especially in these settings. Frustrating. Came across it just last month at my club too. Well done Abercrombie, rise above 👍
Superb stuff 👌🏻👌🏻my dream job would have been a caddy,I did it when I was a young lad at Western Gailes and loved every bag I got, made plenty of money for doing something I absolutely loved, would have done it for nothing

If I wasn’t already convinced that I absolutely must take a trip to Scotland, this man just sealed the deal for me. It’ll be an honor to walk the land that has been cared for with so much passion and love.
Stewart is a genuinely good guy, who takes such pride in the course, and I could tell that after about 30 seconds talking with him. He stopped his tractor on the back of 7 knowing that we had a couple open holes behind us, and he talked with us until the next group's balls started hitting the green. He gave us such good advice about what to see and do between Arran and Fort William. It made my time at Shiskine all the more memorable.
Been a friend with chis all my life , great caddie at Prestwick love thiss film. James O'Pray God Bless Buddy.
I know the man well super friendly and very knowledgeable good on you stuart
Great passion. Good to see you at Boat of Garten today 👍👍👍
Smashing 🎉
Excellent!! This man right here is one of the reasons I love the game of golf. It's not just the game, hitting the ball. It's the history, the passion, the beauty. Leaving to go play at my club, Moanalua Golf Club, Est. 1898. Aloha from Hawai'i!
@@tobysettle8595 Aloha and thank you for your kind words. It’s the greatest game on earth 😊
In the background of those wonderful drone shots there’s a little row of houses, we stayed in one of them on holiday when we were kids. As a family of golfers, our parents joined us as junior members because it worked out as the best deal for the week- we must have played countless rounds that holiday, we had absolutely no idea how lucky we were. But I do remember it being the most fun rounds of golf, such great and exciting holes- full of charm, quirk and memories. Also coined a family saying that we all still say to this day- ‘ya cannae play gold in yer baffies’ Thanks for a great video and for taking me back there. Time to book a trip. 👍🏻
Went there September 2023 and was excited to see it. When we got there we found out it was the last night it was open as he decided to sell it. Met Malcom. Very nice guy but was sad to see it go.
What a great story and well told!
You deserve more followers. Your videos are great! Hope to make it to Shiskine some day.
Class vid . . . .
By way of coincidence, I went to the Holy Island two weeks ago. I knew about the James Braid links laid out in 1907. I parked the car and clamoured up the dunes, and there it was. It was so obviously land where you would expect to find a golf course. England's Askernish?
@@michaelmorrison1503 incredible land. Did you see any of the green sites?
@@thelinksdiary No. I took a few photographs to compare with the old ones which were published around the time the course opened. Horace Hutchinson, one of England's greatest golfers in the late 19th century was in attendance at the opening of the course. That is pretty special.
@@michaelmorrison1503 if you haven’t already done so. You can read all about it in The Links Diary No.7 - www.thelinksdiary.com/no-7
Visiting and playing for the first time in a couple of weeks. Hope we meet the big fella.
@@richardrooney9098 enjoy!
My son and I were on practice putting green before our round at Shiskine. This guy drives quickly at us on his ride on mower. We thought we had done something wrong. he stops, takes off his headset at looks at us with a big smile. He introduces himself and starts with a whole series of questions. What do we think of the place, where are we from, etc, etc. He carefully considered all of our answers. It was fantastic. One of the highlights of our Scotland visit. A genuine wonderful person. Thank you Stuart!⛳️🏴 PS: You are a natural on camera. You need your own show.
@@jonhookstratten3869 wonderful. His own show, now there’s a thought 😊
Shiskine is the greatest. Paradise.❤
That was seriously brilliant, honest hard working bloke, full of real character and passion. Just brilliantly captured and amazing story telling. Thank you 🙏

Stuart bleeds Shiskine Golf - Amazing course incredibly well maintained, Stunning place to play in all weather
The man is a legend ... 😊
I wish other courses take even a small amount of stuarts passion... What a true legand and so happy you guys have showcased him and the course. Love this!!!
@@AndyPlaysGolf thanks Andy. Glad you enjoyed.
It's a wonderful course and maintained to the highest standards. I love Arran and golf and Shiskine is always a treat. It's up there with the best.
Thank you for sharing my Dad's story! It means a lot to my family.
@@lewisf1705 was our pleasure. He continues to do such a brilliant job at Shiskine and always doing it with a smile on his face. A real asset to golf in Arran.
@@thelinksdiary His passion is unbelievable honestly!
You can be proud of yer dad, such a nice person ❤
If I ever had half the passion this man has for a place or occupation, I’ll know I’ve made it at life.
Wonderful
Until Malcolm mentioned Dollar I didn't make the connection until I reread the title. I lived in Kenya and boarded at Dollar and knew Jim but didn't know Malcolm who is 4 years younger than me. A great video and a great telling. Maybe one day I'll make the journey from the west to Duck's Inn. All the best.
Amazing 👏
I’ve had jobs, had a career and now I’ve found my calling. Going to start this at my local club
Salt of the earth.Lovely story😊
